for some funny reason my best friend was really desperate for a girl's night out. She wanted to spend time together having a good meal, talk and also some drinks. Since we both live rather nearby, we decided to go to KLCC and at first wanted to dine at Svago. Unfortunately the place was fully booked for a function so we had to dine somewhere else instead and opted for Chinoz.

Our previous experience there had been a not so pleasant one, however we were willing to give it another chance. We do like the ambience there, especially when it isn't crowded nor filled with big families. This gave us a good chance to have a nice conversation without having to yell at each other from across the table.

With our drinks ordered, we looked through the menu and decided to just order food tapas style to share as none of the mains really appealed to us. Plus we prefer eating like this as it gives us a chance to try more different things.

We ordered the fried calamari. This was super good as it was hot and crisp which is a clear sign that it was freshly fried - with a squeeze of lemon and dipping it into the mayo that it came with, this was satisfying. Plus the squid tasted fresh unlike the frozen kind so I give them props for this dish.

We also ordered the grilled merguez sausage. The portion was slightly bigger than we imagined but then again, who would really complain about more food anyways. This tasted really good as the sausage was perfectly grilled and has a nice herby flavour. Plus it came with some kind of sauce which until today I am unsure what it is, but eating the sausage with it gave you quite a mouthful of flavour.

This is a must-try.

Then because we were indulging in dinner & drinks for the night, we also ordered the soft shell crab tempura. This was an absolute love because the batter was perfectly crisp, nicely flavoured and the crab was still juicy on the inside. We finished this up almost instantly, but we actually took our time to chat and nibble while we sipped on our drinks.

Since it was a Friday night and my friend wanted to spend some time together at a nice restaurant. With that in mind, we decided to brave the KL traffic and headed straight for KLCC and went straight to Chinoz which had been renovated a year or two ago with a whole new menu.

And once we were at the entrance, we were greeted by staffs who were very polite and also attentive, if not a little too much so at certain times. It was a little after dinner time so the crowd was next to minimal so the ambience wasn't too crowded or noisy, almost borderline overly romantic with the dim lighting.

But we proceeded to order our food as we had been starving. Not too pleased with what we were seeing on their mains, we decided to order their appetizers as tapas style instead so we can share and try many different things.

A favourite of ours, we decided to get the Lamb Meatballs cooked in Tomato Ragout. It comes with a side of toasts to dip into the sauce.

But for the price that we paid that night, this dish was a big disappointment. Although the meat was soft and tender there was also a lack in seasoning, plus resembled quite like pre-bought rather than in-house made. Plus the sauce was not well seasoned so we weren't a fan of this plate very much.

This second dish which was also another big big disappointment was the Bruschetta with Aubergine, Spinach and Feta Cheese. The combination sounded heavenly as it had all of my favourite ingredients.

But the bread was soggy as if it wasn't toasted, aubergine & spinach mixture was very oily plus was super desperate for some seasoning and all around bad. We both took one bite of our bread and turned our noses from it for the entire night. Surprisingly enough, something so easy could also be such a failure.

Safe to say these two dishes really needs to be worked on because they were not cheap and could be gotten much better elsewhere without such a steep price tag on it.

My cravings for soup often left me no choice to order one from the menu anywhere I go. Same thing, here I ordered the Chinoz mushroom soup. There is nothing great about it. Nevertheless it satisfies me as long as it fulfills my craving for that day.

Also, being a seafood lover my friend and I cannot resist myself from ordering Fetucinee Marinara. The seafood was yummy, and I am pretty sure the opulent pesto was freshly made with no addition of cream. Or if there is, probably very little for it is a little too acerbic if you ask me.

Although the portions are substantial, we simply cant help ourselves from wanting more from the chef. And we really cannot eat anymore at this point. So we decided to go for bites, something light. We land ourselves with Turkey ham and pineapple pizza. As you can see, we didn’t get one that is nicely baked. The crust was burnt a little. I should probably go for Marcos next time we decided to have pizzas as bites.

Lastly, do not forget to pamper yourself with some of their house wines. They were reasonably priced and were great company to the meal.

Nothing says "weekend" like pancakes for breakfast. Two pieces of tinged gold pancake, topped with mascarpone cream cheese, surrounding was decorated nicely with mixed berries and dry apricot. The pancake was so light, fluffy and SPONGY! Non powdery smell that I most hated, and it wasn't greasy too! The most highlight was the creamy yet silky smooth mascarpone cheese. Fruit was all nice, but it would be great if they were sautéed.Came with a tea pot set. A distinctive flavor and aroma of citrus
