Castell can be said is an evergreen yet popular old-school establishment. It has been around for about 30 years now (maybe more!) and still going on strong; albeit having gone through some changes to upgrade it's menu and ambience. When one small restaurant with limited seatings can survive for that many decades, you can be assured it's food is really something else :-) My favorite at Castell is definitely the Chicken Chop in Special Mushroom Sauce. It's a popular dish amongst many other diners too. The Chicken's marinated well and tasted tender; served piping hot with a sideline of fresh steamed veges and sweet corn. Yum! I heard their beef steaks is really delicious too! Their table settings are also really charming, very old school-English style...

Castell Restaurant is quite popular as one of the best steakhouse in town. The thing that impresses me is their detailed presentation of the food, which tempts me to order more. For my piece of Prime Fillet NZ, I am really satisfied because of thick gooey sauce which is sweet salty and best matched with such tender meat. The corn balances up the meal with lightly salty flavour. I think I pay for something that worth my money.

The Lamb Cutlet was served with corns, salad and a potato. I love the amount of corn that they gave as I super love corns. The lamb was half meat half fats and it was very tender and juicy. The fatsparts melted in my mouth and the burned side was so crunchy. Superb! The lamb marinate was normal and a little bit of herbs presence. I just felt that the portion of the lamb was a bit too small.

On a sunday night peak dinner hours, the parking was convenient as there was not many patrons in the restaurant. We were seated beside a glass window to glance through outside. The restaurant has a romantic ambiance.Bread with oil and vinegar was served first. The bread was soft but this skin was a bit tough.Chicken Parmigiana pasta. The chicken pieces were well-marinated but it was on the salty side. Have to eat it together with the pasta. The pasta was oily. Love the small pieces of garlic. No

Chicken Parmigiana pasta. The chicken pieces were well-marinated but it was on the salty side. Have to eat it together with the pasta. The pasta was oily. Love the small pieces of garlic. Not a bad dish actually despite the oiliness.

I must say the Fresh Bread with Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil is a great appetizer just before the main dish but the Mushroom Cheese Bruschetta was quite a letdown as it was soggy and salty. The Prime Fillet NZ/AUS – tenderloin fillet with sherry sauce is even worse. I requested for medium and but it came out almost rare and seriously the meat was not tender and I was like chewing leather. They cooked it again for me but I was already not in the mood. The Grilled Salmon was so-so, nothing really to talk about.

The only thing that is worthy to talk about is their desserts. Apple Almond Crumble and Choc Chip Hazelnut Friands was out of the earth. The ice cream goes well with the crumble. It really melts in your mouth leaving a pleasant aftertaste. Choc Chip Hazelnut Friands was prepared hot and it has half melted chocolate chip and hazelnut in it. A simple bite with ice cream, just make my day.

Seriously, if it had not been the desserts, definitely I would not be going back there again.
