No more Yam Rice Phobia~ Smile Jul 30, 2012

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Food court | Noodles | Bak Kut Teh | Yong Tau Fu

I used to hate eating Yam Rice because I've eaten the BF's mom Yam Rice twice and her yam rice is the worst in the world: mushy, plain, yucky and boring. My perception of yam rice changed after trying BM Yam Rice's dry and each rice grain is on its own with many dried shrimp and fried garlic. It's quite economic too, if you're feeling icky and wanted to have something 'light' just order a bowl of rice (RM2) and a bowl of tofu pok (RM1.4). Or add an egg (RM1.2).

Or you can go for the set with lots of side choices like innards and lobak (pork roll) that comes with a bowl of soup, tofu and egg and a bowl of rice.

Their chili sauce is nice too! You will get different chili sauce depending of what you ordered. Sometimes I get chili with a big drop of kicap manis (thick soy sauce) and sometimes I get watery kinda of chili.

MSG level is medium low.

Yong Tau Foo Beratur Smile Jul 30, 2012

Uptown hawker center is one makan place where you can see the real 1Malaysia. Malay, Indian and Chinese would eat together and queue at this Ah Keong Yong Tau Foo for a plate of assorted yong tau foo with lots of sweet sauce and chili sauce. Be prepared to queue for 10-15mins during busy nights. Just pick up a plate and grab whatever you fancy, wait for your turn and order while the person in front of you is waiting for their food.

My favorite order is the 3 rolls Teluk Intan Chee Cheong Fun that is stuffed with shallots and dried shrimp and big piece of fried foo chok that will get re-fried to crispiness by Ah Keong (I guess), a big piece of white stuffed tofu and maybe a stuffed brinjal without sesame. It costs around RM5-6. Yum!

MSG level is medium low.

Gula Merah Pekat Tambah Sendiri Smile Jul 30, 2012

The cendol they serve here is common and not exactly special but I love the way they gave us our own bottle of gula merah to flavour the bowl of cendol ourselves so we can control the sweetness, which is very sweet in my case. Perfect dessert for a very hot afternoon. No need to sit under a tree with dusty cars zooming by to enjoy a bowl of cendol.

I've tried Mee Rojak (RM 6.5) peanut sauce drenched sliced fried tofu, fried egg, boiled potato, prawn crackers and lots of sliced cucumbers and yellow noodle. The mee is sweet and very appetizing.

Sourish Poem OK Jun 24, 2012
Categories : Stall / Warung | Juices / Bubble Tea / Tea / Yogurt | Desserts

During one of the hottest weekend in KL, all you wanted to do is just chill inside a room with AC while eating icy cold dessert that reminds me of this sourish bowl of dessert that I had in Sg Wang.

The ice is made from shaved sour plum ice with toppings of cubed citrusy fruits like unripe mango, unripe papaya (I think) and guava with sprinkles of sesame seed and crushed peanuts. While the shaved sour plum is nice, the fruits are super sour, and my friend ( a guy) can't take the sourness tongue

It's also weird to have sesame seed on a bowl of icy dessert, that made the entire bowl looked tad gross with floating seeds after the ice had melted. Will order something else next time.

Cheesy Apam OK Jun 23, 2012
Categories : Stall / Warung

Jerry’s Pancake offers 5 types of fillings, such as The Classic; House Favourites; All Day Brunch; Specialty Flavours; No Meat and Sweet Affairs.

The Classics- has some meat stuff and cheese like ham and cheese, tuna and cheese, chicken sausage and cheese (all RM 4.9)

House Favourites- has some special combinations of fillings such as chicken floss, tomyum mayo, corn with fancy names like Jerry’s Fave, Tomyum Seafood, Hawaiian Tuna Melt (RM4.9-6.9)

All Day Brunch- with more tummy filling stuff like egg with egg mayo and chicken ham, chicken floss and egg , egg mayo and seafood (RM4.9-6.9)

Specialty Flavours- with fancy smancy names like Corny Affair, Smokey Pink, The Real Catch, Aloha Supreme(RM4.9-8.9)

No Meat- just cheese or with veggies like corn or mushroom (RM 3.9-5.9)

Sweet Affairs- for sweet tooth with names like Choc Choc Paradise, Raisins Delight, Super Fruits with pineapples, chocolate spread, peanut butter, banana and raisins (RM3.9-5.9)

A piece of chicken ham with cheese crispy apam for RM4.9 is a rather expensive snack to have. The usual fillings for crispy apam are crushed peanuts, sugar and butter and I think that those traditional fillings are tastier. I liked the crispiness of the apam and it would be nice to have the ham slightly grilled instead of just a slightly warm slice of ham. Or perhaps be replaced with crispy bacon tongue RM4.9 gone in 5 bites! tongue
