Nasi Lemak Artists  Smile Jul 31, 2012
Categories : Malay | Restaurant | Noodles | Nasi Lemak

Although this place has been blogged and reviewed to death, I'm embarrassed to admit that my first visit to this place is actually yesterday. mad

Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng RM 8 is the most ordered dish here, consists of a plate of nasi lemak with half a boiled egg, a whole fried rempah chicken drumstick, slices of cucumbers and a spoonful of sweet spicy sambal anchovy and onions served on banana leaf. While everything about the plate of nasi lemak is perfect, I've tasted nicer fried chicken at Mali's Corner in Setapak tongue Honest!

Ordered sirap bandung ais (iced rose syrup drink with evaporated milk) to go with the nasi lemak. The place is packed even during puasa month and the queue to pay is so long even though the cashier has got lightning speed but worth the wait while you gaze at snapshots of artists and celebrities that have been there. I saw pictures of Datuk Lee, Aaron Aziz and our PM too! MSG level is low.

Soto Ayam Smile Jul 31, 2012   (Related Review)

Another daily favorites that you can have in Uwa only on Thursday. Again you can find cubed rice called lontong hidden under the beansprouts, chicken slices, bihun (vermicelli) and fried shallots in spicy yellow chicken soup without coconut milk. Soto is super delicious when eaten with its sambal kicap with is made from blended bird eyes chilies, salt and Indonesian thick soy sauce ( I think). I strongly feel that the sambal kicap is the key to the success of this dish! Sedap!

Ayam Penyet Express Smile Jul 31, 2012
Categories : Indonesian | Restaurant | Seafood | Noodles | Halal

I always succumbed to eating ayam penyet whenever I spotted an Ayam Penyet place. Which is why I always end up at Ayam Penyet only when I’m at Sunway Pyramid. Need to try more new place! The price of the food here is ridiculously pricey when compared with eating in Indonesia. RM16.50 for a combo that has no soup and but a drink, 3 bakso and one egg! Tsk!

Price aside, the food is really yummy! The ayam penyet is delicious eaten with the crispy bits called bumbu. The fried bakso tasted artificial least I can’t figure out the meat used to make it. The gado gado is like the poor’s satay, satay gravy with just vegetables and heaps of keropok. Pipe in tons of the kicap manis (sweet thick soy sauce) provided on everthing and feast! Watch out for the fiery sambal though.

The refillable ice lime juice is very nice, I’ve never tasted lime juice like that before. It’s tangy and does not taste like our normal limau ais. Normally I will order Soda Gembira, which is iced syrup with condensed milk and soft drink (7UP or Sprite, I’m not sure). It’s interesting that you are only required to pay after eating. MSG level is low.

Char Siew Rice OK Jul 31, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Stall / Warung

We checked in and starved walked along Chulia Street to look for food and stumbled into this crowded Chicken Rice and CharSiew place located in a retro looking painted blue restaurant.

The Char Siew is nice but has too many burnt edges. The Siew Yoke is crispy but the portion is too little tongue Mom ordered different cuts of the Char Siew that I'm not sure what it's called but it's melt in your mouth kinda meat. We didn't order roast chicken.

It would be nice if nasi minyak (rice with chicken fat- yuck) is served instead of just white rice. We are also given a bowl of sweet sauce for the Char Siew and watercress soup to go with the rice. The food clears up pretty fast with its constant stream of customers so be there before 1pm! I would go there again to try their roast chicken! MSG level is mild.

Hor Fun Soup Smile Jul 31, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles

Located same row as the Nasi Kandar Kayu at Chow Yang, we came here to dine before joining the Thursday Pasar Malam crowd. The soup is very sweet with seafood flavour with simple ingredients of fish balls, fish cake, crab sticks and a piece of seaweed. So we guess they used seafood stock to make this bowl of very sweet seafood noodle. The ho fun very smooth and silky, almost like Ipoh’s ho fun.

Their chili sauce is not that special though, tasted like it’s made from dried shrimp. Worth the RM7 paid.
MSG level is mild.
