The ginger snow ice in Tong Pak Fu is not my first choice. However, they were having some promotions on that, hence decided to try it out. The ginger snow ice came drizzled with thick ginger syrup, some pieces of mango and a generous helping of pearls, similar to those that you can find from bubble tea shops. The snow ice taste very gingery and quite spicy, but very enjoyable. Truly recommended!

I've always liked dessert in Tong Pak Fu. The desserts are yummy and light, like eating cotton. Most of the snow desserts come in two sizes, either regular or large. One of my all time favourites is the Guava Snow Ice. The snow ice is topped with thick guava sauce and sprinkled with magic pop balls. The guava taste really lingers in the mouth, sweet and sourish. A must-try!

I went to Tong Pak Fu for dessert recently, since it was in the limelight over the issue of some negative comments about Malaysian food by their Hong Kong's ambassador, i thought i should drop by to have a look to see if the negative comment by a particular celebrity chef will affect the sales of their outlets. As it turned out, Malaysians were not bothered and this particular outlet still have a strong crowd with people queuing. Not many people like the taste of almond. However, I'm particular

Not many people like the taste of almond. However, I'm particularly addicted to almonds. Whenever I have the chance to order anything with almond, I would not hesitate. Traditional chinese desserts are also hard to come by as their preparations are tedious, time consuming and needed lots of skills to make them perfect. I like the Hot Almond dessert from Tong Pak Fu, as it is very genuine. Unlike any of the low quality and diluted dessert we get, this is absolutely perfect. They grind and cooked the almonds into silky smooth texture, and also the taste of almonds will linger in your mouth. Not too sweet, and very satisfying.

The Hot Peanut dessert was also very promising. Made in traditional way, it delivers the expectation. Peanuts were roasted and crushed, cooked into a smooth and creamy texture. Again, not too sweet but having finish a bowl of this dessert, you will feel slightly over eaten.

Mango snow ice here was perfect. Hui Lau Shan did not have any shaven ice to begin with. The texture of the ice was so lovely; it managed to hold itself from falling and at the same time, when you scoop into it, it start to falter and melt like how ice does. It tasted just like a real mango; creamy, sweet and smooth! The red pearl was embedded with bomb of juices yet to be unleashed. I liked that very much. The jelly was sweet to go with the mango snow ice too!

Perhaps I am a little conservative when it comes to chocolate ice. I expected it to be sweet and what greeted me was bitter chocolate ice. It did not taste as creamy as real chocolate but bitter like one. Hence I did not find myself liking it much. The use of banana to complement the chocolate was not ideal as it was bitter and mild. The white balls were made of glutinous rice and somehow it did not match with the chocolate shaven ice as well. Texture of the chocolate ice was good but just the o

On a separate note, the waiter delivered my order to the wrong table (we changed table and by right they should be aware of it) and ended up I waited triple of the usual time for something I did not like.

So here, we tried their few specialties which are highly recommended.
First to arrive on our dining table (Actually was quite fast, to our surprise, hehe) was Black Sesame Glutinous Rice ball with Peanut Powder.

The rice balls were springy and soft as well. The filling is not that sweet, so it’s good-to-go for me. Just that if the rice balls paste is not that thick, would be even better!

Soon was ensued by Curry Fish Balls.
This was highly recommended by one of my food blogger friend, and indeed, he’s right! ^^ Yum Yum !

Thinking these few snacks might not be enough for the chap, thus we called in Curry Chee Cheong Fan as well.
The chee cheong fun was ordinary with curry gravy. But was spiced up by the accompanied crispy and aromatic fried dried shrimps! Great!

As for me, I would still love to have their signature Tracka Durian Snow Ice! It was beyond my expectation as each ice flakes was sufficiently immersed with durians! Delish!

Just recently, Tong Pak Fu has just opened their seventh branch at The Mines shopping complex. I am sure that many of you who have visited Hong Kong would know that Hongkies love their desserts very much, so much so that some dessert house in Hong Kong opens up to 2am in the morning. Dessert is a serious business in Hong Kong. While other dessert houses like Hui Lau Shan (許留山) and Lucky Dessert (發記甜品) specialises in Mango flavoured desserts and durian desserts and Krisps, Tong Pak Fu specialises in traditional hot desserts, snow ices and western dessert
Mango and Milk Snow Ice @ RM8.80 (regular) are made of imported mangoes from the Philippines served with jellies as toppings. It was good but I preferred the durian version more because first of all, I am a huge durian fan and it has more toppings, taroballs, jellies and some tiny bits of corn flakes.

The Chocolate lava cake - Now look at that! Just take a look at that and ask yourself, how on earth would you resist this?
The lava just ooze out and I shovel it immediately into my mouth with some ice cream along, the complexity if the hot and cold sensation, the bittersweet chocolate and melt-in-your mouth ice cream, I was temporary into ecstasies.

One of Tong Pak Fu's signature favourites, it's also one of my personal favourites (and I'm sure that of many other people); the durian snow ice tastes like pure durian, but somehow in the form of smooth layered shaved ice.I don't know how they manage to capture the flavour so well, but this creamy icy durian is really addictive. All the sweetness is natural and not added on with sugar. It is also quite filling.

Perhaps one of the less exciting desserts at Tong Pak Fu, the red bean cream tastes pretty much as what I would expect from any decent dessert place. The dessert is thick, rich, and rich with red bean taste (which is, as usual, too much for me). However, it's less sweet here, in line with their standard practices of being less sweet.

Out of all the shaved ice desserts at Tong Pak Fu, I'd have to say it's a very close fight at the top, but mango wins. Credit their imported mangoes from the Philippines for the rich natural sweetness and thick, creamy consistency.Beside the super smooth shaved ice that melts slowly enough for you to enjoy the dessert without rushing, it also comes with little pearls filled with mango juice for that extra pop of mangoey goodness. This is one of the better mango desserts out there.

The mangoes used by Tong Pak Fu are sourced from the Philippines, which gives their mango desserts a strong, rich, natural sweetness and aroma that can't be faked. Cold and thick, their mango sago with pomelo is satisfying and tastes completely like pure enriched mangoes - even the pomelo flavour doesn't rise far above the mangoes' sweetness. Definitely one of their best dessert, bested only by the version with vanilla ice cream.

When it comes to frozen desserts, I tend to shy away from those that are based on sour fruit such as citrus and such. Therefore, the pink guava shaved ice at Tong Pak Fu isn't my first choice. It tastes very naturally fruity with sweetness and sourness. Perhaps the best thing is the pearls which contain guava juice - eat pearl is a refreshing burst. But still, I'm just not very into sour fruit frozen desserts.

Tong Pak Fu prides themselves on having learnt the art of western desserts; and I would agree. However, merely learning a desserts and only that you can execute a template recipe well, but not necessarily make a killer dessert. The chocolate lava cake is dense and moist, and richly chocolatey. Everything is right on paper, but I've tried way better and cannot really enjoy a basic good lava cake thoroughly, knowing what's out there and easily accessible. A really good dessert otherwise.
