Our original plan was to try Fatty Crabs at Taman Megah. But looking at the long queue of customers waiting to be seated (it was even before 6pm!) we decided to detour to Hoi Peng at SS2 instead. Fortunately for us, it was a tasty affair all around; albeit their crabs are a tad expensive than what we anticipated.

From what we saw on their whiteboard menu, they are serving Indonesian crabs @ RM7.50/100g, or RM75/kg. The pricing isn’t too bad considering most seafood restaurants in town are charging about the same between RM68 to RM88 per kg. So I am guessing the crab we had was more than a kg since we were charged RM90 for it. Among the handful of cooking styles available, we picked the Sweet and Sour simply because it’s their signature and also the chef’s recommended style.

The clams were fresh, plump with a lot of flesh and most importantly clean tasting with minimal grit. Taste wise it was great – the amount of ginger that went into the dish was just nice and noticeable without being overpowering. It also had a hint of spiciness accompanied with a pleasant aroma of Chinese wine.

The crispy fried chicken wing was delicious alright. Despite looking dry, there’s a burst of juice when you bite into the crispy honey glazed skin. The chilli sauce that comes with the wings is nicely done as well and tasted like those prepared by BBQ chicken wing hawkers, and they just go well together.

We decided to order some vegetables, so that we don't feel so guilty just having meat all the way. The waitress recommended kai lan as she claims that those vegetables were the freshest. We agreed to order the kai lan, fried with oyster sauce. The kai lan came nicely fried, with enough wok hei, but not too much until the vegetable was overcooked. Doused in oyster sauce and sprinkled with some fried onions, it was quite nice.

The waitress in Hoi Peng Seafood Restaurant recommended their 'jiu pai' home made tau foo, hence we decided to give it a try. We thought it would come with some gravy, however, the rectangular slab of tau foo came perfectly fried to golden brown. It was also very delicious when dipped in thai chilli sauce. The tau foo had a bit of seafood taste in it, although I could not detect any seafood pieces in it. Overall, definitely a recommended dish.

The spicy and sour crab in Hoi Peng Seafood restaurant is superb! The sauce has lots of chilli and garlic that gives it a fiery flavour. Some egg white was also added into the sauce, to give it a thicker consistency. The crunchy fried man tou that we ordered was great when dipped with the sauce. The crabs were juicy fresh and extremely delectable. Defrinite a recommended dish!

Hoi Peng Seafood Restaurant offers many types of styles of crabs. One of my favourites is the salted egg crab. The best thing about Hoi Peng is that their crabs are always served in XXL sizes, each crab claw is the size of a fist. The crabs are normally more than 1kg each. The salted egg were used generously, each piece of crab is fully coated in them, salty and a little sweet. The crabs are definitely very fresh and juicy!

Went to Hoi Peng Seafood Restaurant in SS2 to gorge ourselves silly with crabs. The restaurant is our favourite haunt when it comes to crabs. However, we ordered the century egg with ginger to start with. The century egg was very fresh, and the yolk is slightly runny, just the way I like it. The pungent smell and flavour of the century egg is further enhanced by the accompaniment of pickled ginger. A very good appetizer indeed!

One of the best place to eat crab is Hoi Peng in SS2. It's usually not full house if you walk-in. But it's better to make a booking especially on a weekend. We went one day with the family and we ordered fried rice and signature taufu with 3 types of crabs. The sweet and sour crab, dry butter cream crab and butter cream crab. The crab itself is seriously HUGE. The claws itself looks like a drumstick. But it was fresh and you can peel the meat off the shell with ease as oppose to some other place

We went one day with the family and we ordered fried rice and signature taufu with 3 types of crabs. The sweet and sour crab, dry butter cream crab and butter cream crab. The crab itself is seriously HUGE. The claws itself looks like a drumstick. But it was fresh and you can peel the meat off the shell with ease as oppose to some other places where the meat keep sticking onto the shell which makes the whole eating ordeal, challenging. Even with these 3 types of taste, you can still taste the sweetness of the crab meat. You can also smell and taste the roasted aroma on the shell.

The sweet and sour crab goes well with fried mini buns which they serve as well. It's the less jelak one out of the 3. The dry butter cream crab is oily but it's also creamy and the strands of fried butter is yummy, so yummy that you will just forget how sinful it is. Not to forget that it's super addictive too. Last but not least is the butter cream crab, my favourite, because its creamy and salty. The texture is a bit sandy.

The crab here is so good that I came here for one of my birthdays just to eat crabs!
