Exactly one year after Tom, Dick & Harry's sprang up on this street (time truly flies!), 42 East has opened to offer yet another option for pub grub in TTDI. Sauteed mushrooms with asparagus & bacon. The rest of the menu is mostly run-of-the-mill, though 42 East plans to soon showcase Malaccan Portuguese specialties such as devil's curry. For now, the steaming-hot mussels in a pot are fresh and juicy enough to recommend to mollusk maniacs.

Some sort of complimentary shooters. We were too woozy and boozy to demand details.
Service is brisk and cordial, even on a busy night with a boisterous crowd.

Peranakan pork belly pongteh. For everyone who's tired of seeing only chicken pongteh at the Klang Valley's Nyonya restaurants, here's a sumptuous alternative _ a soybean paste stew that masterfully mixes sweet and savory flavors, brimming with achingly tender pork.

Devil's Curry with soft pork ribs. As spicy as it should be. The authenticity of 42 East's offerings is indisputable, since it's run by my Malaccan-born brethren (including one from my alma mater, SFI). Fellow Franciscans can even get a discount.

Here's a twist to 42 East's acclaimed baby back pork ribs. No, that greenish goo on top of the meat isn't moss. This version is glazed with wasabi _ a stroke of genius that supplies an inimitably spicy kick.

A pork burger is also available now, featuring a thick, tender patty, smothered with a gooey blend of onions, mushrooms & pineapples. One fine mess indeed.

Lavin Valley Merlot. For easy drinking; a decent deal for RM88.

Marinade with bbq sauce, the spiciness is certainly spice by ones' mouth the pork ribs is soft and not to hard when eaten, certainly a good meal to enjoy with, together along with the sauce, which may add more flavour to it.
Good portion to fill ones' stomach.

From the signage alone, this place looks and sounds like a very "lala" place, but don't let that put you off. This is one of the better pork rib places in town, and is set in a bar environment. The BBQ sauce is intense, but the black pepper sauce is too intense and kills the flavour - so stick with either BBQ or honey. The meat is tender enough to fall off the bone - I like the part around the soft bone the most. The side dishes are quite "meh" - mash is dull and brocolli is modest.Best part is t

Best part is the serving - somehow their "full rack" is a lot more than other places. Maybe they just use better pigs.

The crispy bacon is also a good order if you're having the munchies. Like the name says, it's crispy and tastes every bit like how bacon should taste - salty, and juicy with oil and fat.

Dieters keep clear!

If you think it is bitter, then you are wrong!
Connor stout glazed tastes WAY better than hot and Spicy.

Besides I had this crispy bacon, which I think it was too salty on its own. By right, it should because it is supposed to be a snack for beer drinkers.

I love the pork ribs at 42 East. Not just because they're fall-off-the-bone tender. Not just because they're well-marinated and aromatic. Mostly, I love them because for the same price, I get about double the serving I get anywhere else. Their "single rack" looks about two times the size of single racks at other restaurants, at the same price. Also, they serve one of the best frozen margharitas in town. Also, they serve one of the best frozen margharitas in town. Don't go for flavoured ones, they taste funny. Go for the original lime instead, it has the right balance of flavours from the sour lime to the tequila. Even better still that they are cheaper than most places (last I had it was RM18++ only). Happy hour prices should be even better.
