The waiter recommended the homemade herbal tea when he saw that we were undecided about the drinks. The homemade herbal tea in Chef Tay is quite nice as minimal ice was given, but I was fine with that, as it did not dilute my drink. The sugar taste was not overwhelming, and it complemented the drink well. Medium-portioned, it was priced at RM1.80 and it was quite decent.

The fried fish cake in Chef Tay was slightly disappointing after we sampled the homemade fish paste ball. The fried fish cake was fried till a nice golden brown colour, which was good. However, I thought that the fish cake was rather flat, without the bouncy texture, as if too much flour was being put in it. Served with a couple of slices of cucumber, it is priced at RM6. They sliced it into bite-sized pieces and some chilli sauce was given as well. Not my favourite, but my colleague seemed to e

We thought that we would order the steamed chicken as well, to complement our noodles. The chickens were hung at the open kitchen area, and they look pretty good, hence we decided to order 2 persons’ portion to share among the three of us. The chicken came, and I was happy to see that they gave us the drumstick part. It was served with a generous helping of fried garlic, which gave the chicken a very aromatic taste. The meat was tender and juicy. Priced at RM11, it was definitely thumbs-up!

The dry loh she fun from Chef Tay was very nice. The bowl of noodles was served with a dash of soya sauce, dark sweet sauce as well as of sesame oil and fried garlic oil. There were some slices of chicken and a slice of fish paste. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and it literally slid down the throat when consuming. A small bowl of soup with superb homemade fish ball completes the set. Priced at RM5 per bowl, it was definitely well worth the amount paid.

Apparently the original shop from Alor Setar only serves the koey teow soup, however, since the original owner’s son took over, he expanded the menu. We ordered the dry bee hoon, priced at RM5 for a regular-sized bowl. The meehoon was not well tossed, but that is fine. They added in a slice of fish cake, which I thought was a bit too measly. Some sliced chicken with fried garlic topped the bowl. I thought the meehoon was a bit dry, hence the small bowl of soup helped. The soup also came with som

Located in an unassuming area of Kemuning Utama, Chef Tay Fishball House cannot be missed by its uber-large signboard on top of the shopfront. I was told by the colleague who brought me there, that apparently this is a franchise all the way from her hometown in Alor Setar. I decided to order the koey teow soup as it is their speciality. The koey teow is nothing special, just so-so. However, the winner was the homemade fish paste ball. Juicy and springy, every mouthful was bursting with real fish

For less than RM8, you can get a reasonable portion of this, and most importantly it is quite tasty. The soya sauce used mix the kuey teow is decent, could be more fragrant by adding sesame oil. It is just a matter of preference. Kuey Teow is those close to Ipoh standard- narrow sized in breadth of the noodle and very smooth.Smooth chicken- Indeed very smooth. Smooth chicken- Indeed very smooth. Flavour wise is close to bland but you can always dip them in some soya sauce provided. I was given the drumstick part so it was extra tender.

The bowl of soup is very hearty as well. I enjoyed until the last sip and I do not feel thirsty after that.
