Lunch @ Sentul Boulevard Smile Sep 28, 2015

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

This restaurant is usually crowded towards the end of the week with working adults. Service is relatively quick and all our food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. I arrived at the restaurant just after lunch hour (1:45pm) and there were very few tables occupied. That's probably why the kitchen was able to focus on my table's meals.
Today, we ordered rice and 3 dishes to share. The first is a Mantis Prawn Meat Fried Spicy with  Curry Leaf. This was my favorite dish. It's a cross between a lobster and a regular prawn, having the body shape of the former but the size of a regular prawn. The mantis prawn meat still had its flavor even through the thick coat of salted egg, chilli and curry leaves. The salted egg wasn't too salty and there was a real kick from the red chilli mixed inside.
I also had the Squid and Prawn Hotplate with Banana Leaf. The prawns were large and squid portions were normal when you order the medium. They're cooked really well and very tasty as the taste of seafood flows right into the thick creamy sauce. Now, they don't have an explanation for what the sauce really is. My guess that it's their restaraunt's secret sauce. I've had this meal twice before and the quality is pretty consistent.
Finally, a simple vegetable dish; Flowering Cabbage fried with Garlic. The cabbage was really green and fresh. It was a great pallete cleanser to all the rich flavor from the other two dishes.

This place accepts card and cash. There are a lot of international companies here. So, a lot of foreign customers who speak English eat here. So, no worries if you're a banana and want to eat at a great restaurant in Sentul yummy

Brunch @ The Red Bean Bag Smile Sep 26, 2015

I finally got to try The Red Bean Bag. It's usually really packed with a long wait but my friends and I arrived earlier in the morning and were lucky enough to grab a table just before the crowd came. The restaurant's outlook is very comfortable and the service was alright. not much to complain about. They do come to quickly clear your plate almost immediately once you're done.
Their menu is split into the Light Side and the Dark Side. The Light Side has lighter meals for those who aren't as hungry. Price of course is less on that page. On the other side, is where the real meals are.
I ordered the Baked Eggs which is a specialty of the restaurant. On a hotplate, we have two eggs and an assortment of sausages (lamb, chicken and beef) baked with a thick layer of cheese. I don't know how they did it, but the meal arrived really hot but the eggs yolks were still runny! It was so, so good flowerflowerflower. The meat was also very tasty and well seasoned. It was a lot of flavor packed inside one meal. On the side, the meal was served with some sour dough bread to eat with the delightful baked meal. like
For dessert, we ordered their special homemade avocado ice-cream on top of deconstructed brownies with nutella fudge sauce. The avocado ice-cream was really sweet and creamy. While the brownies were pretty average, i think there was also some sweet honey biscuit cubes that really made the meal for me. It was a great dessert while the portion was a little small.

I would recommend this place for family day time meals and maybe afternoon dates.

Banana Leaf for Lunch! Smile Sep 23, 2015

Tasty Delicious is a restaurant serving mainly Indian cuisine and western food. The interior is air-conditioned though you can feel a little grease in the air because the pathway to the kitchen goes directly into the dining area and probably the ventilation isn’t so great in a confined area. Service is commendable with the waiters when taking orders but the wait between ordering and receiving meals is a bit painful (depending on what you order). I ordered the Banana Leaf Rice which was the fastest meal.

Overall, I must say the portions are considerably smaller than what you’d normally see in Bangsar’s Nirvana and Devi’s. But this restaurant makes up for it in quality. The reason why Banana Leaf serves a little slower than usual is because the kitchen cooks to order. All the food I get come hot (still with the steam) and crispy (especially the bitter gourd!). When ordering this, I am allowed to ask for extra one time after they fill my banana leaf with the meal. The components of the banana leaf are relatively the same as what we’re used to. Red crispy fried bitter gourde, potato dahl, sweet and spicy mango chutney, poppadum, mixed fried green vegetables and beans. I asked for dahl and chicken curry to go on my rice out of the additional options of fish curry that they had. You also can have the option to add meat for an extra cost.

Towards the end of the meal, they gave us a cup of rassam and a traditional yoghurt drink. I think these are really up to a person’s taste. The rassam I had here had more herbs and spices inside making it stronger than the one I’ve tried in Nirvana. The yoghurt drink was new to me. It isn’t the sweet kind packed with sugar that we’d find in a supermarket. It’s slightly sour and watery. These drinks are meant help with digestion after a heavy meal.

Overall, I would come back tothis place. Price-wise the meal costs about less than RM10 and the rest of the menu goes up to RM50-60 and under. So it’s a pretty decent place with lots of choices to choose from.

Estilo: Guacamole Salad & Pizza Smile Sep 23, 2015

Today I had dinner at Estillo's in Publika. Looked forward to eating outside after the rain gave us great weather to enjoy outside. Estillo's wasn't too packed and it was easy to find a place. It's a little harder to get the waiter's attention because they hang around the middle or inside the restaurant. But other than that, they were very cheerful and pleasant.

I had the Signature House Guacamole Salad with Grilled Chicken (RM26) to start with. The portion was standard bordering small. It was quite enjoyable going through the layers. At the base, there was guacamole mixed with red onions as the salad's foundation. Then, layer by layer, there were sliced baby tomatoes, grated hard boiled eggs, rocket salads. Finally, the aubergine crisps were on top with some light dressing around it. Overall, this tasted really good with just enough onions for that kick in the guacamole. The grilled chicken was cooked well and was a great compliment to the guacomole. This is the first time I've seen a guacomole as the base of a meal and it's a great find!

Next, I had the Paella Pan Pizza (RM26) with a marinara base topped with squid, prawns and chilli flakes. It was, really, really good and hearty. At each bite of this rustic pizza, I could taste the mix of seafood. Almost like the oil that cooked the squid and prawns were mixed in together with the marinara for that extra zing. The pizza dough looks thick on the top but was actually nice and thin at the bottom. It came pretty crispy with the first few bites. I guess the only thing I didn't see much of was the chilli flakes. It didn't really taste spicy either. But it's alright 'cos the portion of seafood and the flavors of the meal made up from it!
Overall, this was a great meal to share with a friend or loved one. Just enough, for two people to eat at night.

Appetizers at Brotzeit Smile Sep 22, 2015

Categories : German | Restaurant | Pizza/Pasta | Steaks / Chops | Burgers / Sandwiches | Group/Family dining

It was just around happy hour and just before dinner time. I was looking for something extra light to hold me through all the way through dinner. I had a drink at Brotzeit and was happy to find a delicious meal I’d like to introduce the Lachstatar (Salmon Tartar). This is usually an appetizer but since I had it for myself, it really was just right for a small meal. The tartar was made out of generous chunks of fresh smoked salmon, mixed with cream cheese and chives. The cream cheese wasn’t too heavy and there was even amounts of cream and protein on this meal. The salmon tartar was decorated with greens and sliced olives. This meal wouldn’t be complete with a traditional serving of German Bread. The bread was pretty interesting as it was very heavy and thick showing that it had a lot of character in it. But it was understated enough that it was a great serving platter for the main hero, the salmon tartar. Although the meal was a little pricey for just an appetizer, it was still a great meal to be had.

At around 5pm, the restaurant had a few tables occupied and was quite cool with the air conditioning even though the bar was not located inside the mall. It’s hardwood tables and benches were played a good part in keeping to the German heritage of jovial parties in a bar. The staff was quite helpful and were very nice if you ask for suggestions if you’re here for the first time.
