Sushi Fixings Smile Sep 08, 2015   (Related Review)

While my friends would prefer ordering a set meal like a bowl of ramen or a rice bowl, I prefer otherwise. My go-to is always the assorted sushis and other kind of small dishes because that way I can try different things. Variety is key even if my stomach capacity can only go so far.

As always, my immediate order is two servings of Ebikko Sushi just for myself. Honestly I can eat about 3-4 servings of this and I'll be a very happy person. Sushi Tei does this well because the seaweed is always crisp when I eat it which means this was made to order and their never stingy with the ebikko toppings so paying Rm4.80 for one serving is worth it.

Something else that I always like to get is a California Maki because it comes with ebikko surrounding the rice & different kinds of filling - all of which happens to be my favourite. There's avocado, cucumber, egg and crabmeat inside so for Rm6.80, it's really not bad at all.

Then there's this Salmon Mentai Nigiri sushi which is my absolute favourite thing to get and priced at Rm7.80, I guess it's pretty alright. There is a layer of japanese mayo mixed with mentaiko (cod roe) on top of slices of salmon belly and it is torched which gives it a very nice flavour.

Unlike some places, Sushi Tei is not stingy with both the mentai & salmon so you'd get a good bite with these two pieces.

Finally no Japanese meal is complete for me without enjoying a good handroll and one of my favourite to order is Soft Shell Crab Handroll. One thing I really liked about the ones they serve at Sushi Tei is how their soft shell crab is not oily nor is it hard & cold. Instead this was crispy & juicy at the same time. So I really enjoyed it.

That wraps up my Japanese dinner over the weekend and it definitely will not be the last time I visit this place.

Durian Ice Cream Smile Sep 08, 2015

For someone that loves durian, I literally jumped at the chance to visit Inside Scoop when a friend told me that they serve really good ice cream. Plus odd flavours such as Teh Tarik, Cempedak and Durian.

Since I didn't know the way, a friend drove and thankfully he did or else I'd get lost before getting anywhere near this place. Not unless you're familiar with the area, this Inside Scoop isn't the easiet to find as Waze is not in the slightest bit reliable.

When we got there, I knew what I wanted instantly. Though was happily trying the other flavours like Verona chocolate, Teh Tarik and Cempedak. I was initially going to get a scoop of Cempedak too but then it didn't live up to expectation so I just picked the Durian flavour.

Rather than get the ice cream in a cup, I opted for the one because that's how I like it. For Rm10 and a giant ball of durian ice cream, I think it was quite worth it because it wasn't just cream with some durian flavour in it. The taste & smell was stronger than any other durian ice cream that I have ever tried.

Though, not something I would eat on a regular basis and it has nothing to do with the added calories.

THAI FOOD Smile Sep 07, 2015
Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Seafood | Noodles

After days of bugging my mom, she finally gave in and brought me to eat lunch at one of my favourite Thai restaurant!

As always my favourite drink to order is Thai Iced Tea. I just love the flavour of it compared to regular tea, plus the different kind of sweetener they use really makes this truly unique. For Rm10.90, I shared this with mom because it was a really big glass and I'd rather be chugging water than this anyway.

Then for dishes, we ordered two and one bowl of white rice to share.

First is Stir Fried Baby Kailan with Salted Fish - again, another one of our favourite veggies to order. Although it was good, I firmly believe that we can get better from a Chinese restaurant and perhaps even for a bigger portion for the price of Rm15.90.
SPICY AND SOUR

SPICY AND SOUR

And finally, my absolute favourite is the Steamed Siakap with Chillies, Garlic and Lime sauce. Not many places can get this dish as good as Absolute Thai can.

Every spoonful of sauce is like a big punch of spiciness and sourness. I can just drink the sauce without really even touching the fish, especially since they keep this metal plate lighted so the 'soup' will always be hot.

Though be warned, this is not for those that are not good with spicy food.

Spirolling~ Smile Sep 07, 2015

I was lucky to be invited by OpenRice to try out these interesting looking things. So with my friends, we ventured to Pavilion with excited bellies to try out these Spirolls. I've walked pass the stores before and almost every time there would be a queue just to try out the many flavours that were offered.

I like the idea that you can watch as they make the interesting Spirolls. Plus they always makes the Spiroll to order which means they will put on the toppings when you order to maintain uptimum freshness. Also this way the bread with stay crisp on the outside but soft on the inside.

The first flavour that we got was the Premium Chicken Floss and we all loved this one, especially me. They slather the spiroll with mayonnaise then packed on the chicken floss so you get a hefty amount of topping with each bite.

I couldn't stop eating it then before you know it, we had nibbled it till it was all gone.

My healthy friend ordered the Sunflower Seed topped Spiroll and he enjoyed this one plenty because they were not stingy with their toppings at all. I wasn't too fond of this because the sunflower seeds were pricking my gums and really did not help with my ulcer.

And then there was the dessert Spirolls! Excitedly we got the Peanut Butter & Chocolate Chips topped Spiroll. It was AMAZING and for anyone with a sweet tooth, this will definitely be a favourite of yours.

Finally, one of the most popular order is the Nutella & Walnut Spiroll and let's just say I got a mini heart attack at the sound of this. I have never really been a fan of the chocolate spread cause I think it's not that nice on toast, but I liked Walnut so thought why not try the most popular item on the menu.

It was pretty darn good cause the spiroll was lathered in a thick layer of Nutella then the walnuts were packed on. So every bite is super chocolatey & satisfying.

For drinks, we got two orders of Iced Peach tea and I was drinking it endlessly. I've always loved peach tea and Kurtos Spiroll's is amazing. It isn't too sweet like the bottled ones nor is it watery so this as super good.

All in all, I think this is worth a try if you haven't before. Though I would suggest that you eat it immediately or else the Spiroll with get soggy then it wouldn't be nice anymore.

Plus I kinda hope that they would come up with a better packaging because it's kind of difficult to take the Spiroll out without losing some of the toppings from how tight the box is. Other than that, it's good.

Thank you OpenRice! smile

Supplementary Information:
Their peach tea is said to be imported in from Sweden. It's light & fruity which I absolutely adore.

Japanese Food Fix Smile Sep 07, 2015
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Seafood | Ramen/Udon/Soba | Private Party

After walking around and buying the things that we wanted, the few of us decided to take a break to grab some dinner. Since there was nothing else that really caught our attention, we headed straight for Sushi Tei for some nice Japanese food.

This is one of my favourite places to go to for some Japanese food because the staff are always very polite and also attentive. They get an A for service, that is for sure.

For appetizers, we ordered to share two dishes before our mains arrived.

As always the Tamago is a must order and for 4pcs priced at Rm6.80, it's pretty worth it. Especially since the rolls are not flat and small.

There's something really special about Japanese egg because not only is it incredibly soft, the texture of it also happens to be incredibly fluffy and spongy. Something never to have ever been expected of an egg.

Though I'm only half as excited about this plate because it is slightly sweet which isn't my favourite flavour when it comes to eggs. But Sushi Tei definitely makes one of the best Tamago dishes.

We saw something on the menu that caught our attention and bravely ordered it to try. It was their Natto with Tuna appetizer and it was only Rm4.80 for this.

I've seen and heard about Natto before but never dared to try it after some Japanese people explained that it's got a very pungent taste & smell. Plus the slimy texture has always put me off, until yesterday evening.

It is true that the bean has a very slimy like texture and also the slime gets stringy when you try to take any pieces of it. The taste is almost similar to Petai, if not a little more subtle and less bitter. But when you eat it with the tuna & some soya sauce, it is actually not too bad.

There is also a lot of protein in this small dish and the health benefits that comes from those fermented beans. It's no wonder why the Japanese people eat it so much.
