Koay Teow Th'ng Smile Aug 03, 2012

On the way to Penang Hill, we passed by the motherload of food! I guess they all mushroomed there due to the popularity of Bukit Bendera and the number of tourists. That's good though as we were starving by the time we got down! This is a bowl of very tasty soup (I think MSG?) with chicken shreds that aren't too dry or tough. Inside we found several chewy fishballs. Not sure if it's good or we were just too hungry.

Prawn Noodles OK Aug 03, 2012

This food court is very convenient since it is located right beside the famous Batu Ferringhi beach and has a wide variety of food available. This bowl of prawn noodle was average.. The big spoon of har gou (prawn paste) added taste to the soup but I wouldn't say it is very good. It definitely wasn't bland but not something I would recommend. I found exactly 7 very tiny and overcooked prawns inside the slightly soup.

Chee Cheong Fun stalls are everywhere but do they all taste the same? This one here contains all the regular ingredients like the rice noodle, dark red sweet sauce, chilli sauce, prawn paste and sprinkled with sesame seeds. The koay teow was soft with a little bounciness and went well with the sweet spicy combination. It was not too oily unlike some that I have tried. However, I didn't particularly like it.

Lor Mee OK Aug 03, 2012   (Related Review)

This was my first time hearing about Lor Mee. Apparently, it is more common in Penang and I don't really see it in KL. It is yellow mee in a thick starchy soup, sometimes with egg, chicken, pork or inner organs, depending on the vendor. This one did not have a hard boiled egg but it had chicken shreds and chunks. The thick soup is different from normal watery ones. Although I did not like it much, my friend said it tasted ok.

Laksa by the roadside OK Aug 06, 2012

On the way to Penang Hill / Bukit Bendera, you will pass by many stalls along the side of the road selling food. There are some near Asia Cafe where they set up chairs and tables under the trees. Not exactly the cleanest location. The bowl of laksa tastes like any ordinary asam laksa in Penang. The amount of ingredients didn't impress me and it wasn't among the best I've tasted.
