Tang Pin Kitchen Smile Jul 23, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles | Group/Family dining

Tang Pin Kitchen is a chinese restaurant with fish ball specialties. I wanted a no frills and quick fix meal with noodles that day, so I went to this shop. I didn't order their signature Tang Pin Mee Pok as I have tried it before.

Handmade Fish Ball (RM6) with meat filling.
It's a bit bouncy when chewing, but I will still prefer the fish ball without filling in my noodles soup.

Celery Noodle (RM6.50) with home made fish ball, the clear soup is delight to the palate because it doesn't contain MSG, it is indeed a healthy meal.

Century Egg Lean Meat Porridge (RM4)
It's only a small full bowl, for big eater may neat to add tong sui or side dish.

Red bean dessert (RM3.50)
I didn't order drink as I think the pricing is a bit high.

Overall I recommend the you try the celery noodle and the giant fish ball is a must try too!

Tang Pin also can be found in SS2/24 and Sea Park Jln 21/19, PJ =)

Categories : Taiwanese | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hotpot | Noodles

We decided to try this steamboat during weekend.
When we got the menu, we noted that the first page in the menu explained
the history fo Tian Siang. Tian means Sky in mandarin, Siang means Fragrance
in short, Tian Siang means the food aroma from Heaven; and it is related to the Genghis Khan's empire during the Mongolian era.

Let me introduce what is "成吉思汗" Genghis Khan, it refers to a well known chinese historical hero, he started the Mongol invasions that would ultimately result in the conquest of most of Eurasia.

By the end of his life, the Mongol Empire occupied a substantial portion of Central Asia and China.
About Genghis Khan Barbecue usually using lamb and vegetables, barbecued, often at the table.
天香回味鍋 (Tian Siang Hui Wei Steamboat) is invented by Genghis Khan in the 12th century for his soldiers's meal. Genghis Khan understands that in order to conquer the world, his soldiers must have strong and healthy body, and having food with lots of nutrition.
Now, 天香回味鍋 (Tian Siang Hui Wei Steamboat) becomes the successful Taiwanese steamboat. Therefore, this steamboat soup base is cooked with
more than 60 types of herbs/ plants, no MSG added to the soup, and can eat without any sauce.
The atmosphere of the restaurant made us feel like VIPs.
The main colours to furnish this place are greenish gold, the huge wall picture is used to illustrate part of the Mongol Empire that was conquered by Genghis Khan.

Now, get our choice of the soup base, these soup base are cooked
with 60 types of herbs/ plants without MSG:
Original and Spicy combo (天香回味鍋 - 鸳鸯)
Spicy (天香鍋底- 辣味)
Original (回味鍋底- 原味)
Vegetarian (素食鍋底)
(Small for RM30, Big for RM35);
Small for 2 - 4 persons; Big for 5 - 8 persons
Good news is that they allow refill of soup.

We ordered the hand puff noodles (thick and long ramen) (手工拉面)
RM10 per plate
For vege, we choosed asparagus (芦笋)
RM15 per plate.
Then we decided to have vegetarian balls, mix of black bright pearl and white bright pearl (夜明珠,白明珠)
Their utensils are sterilised as shown below

Here come the vegetarian base soup! Wow, the smell is extraordinarily good.
The taste of herbs is quite strong.

Asparagus
It's a bit pricey to have the raw materials for steamboat
but I guess the main attraction is to taste the soup base with 60 herbs
and prepared following the Genghis Khan's way

Look, the handmade ramen is boiling.
And mind you, the ramen need to be cooked with hot soup for 15mins.
For a well cook Ramen, you need to be patient.

Finally, my bowl of healthy and nutricious meal was ready!
The vegetarian ball was very worth to try, firm with substance and nice to bite.

It is pricey no doubt but I think is worth to taste it even just once in life!

Last but not least, we were served the Qing Xiang Cha (清香茶)
and it was non caffeinated. I like the very light fragrance
from the tea and it's very smooth.
RM2.20 for a tall pot

Total damage: RM73.70 for 2 person

How to get to this restaurant?

The shop is located at 2nd floor which you need to take a lift to go up or alternatively use the stairs.
It is facing the road and not the small garden inside Sunway Giza.
A huge green signboard can be seen from the windows, both at the entrance and the side.

Address:
Unit B-08-02, 2rd Floor
Block B Sunway Giza Mall
No.2 Jln PJU5/14, PJU5 Kota Damansara
47810, Petaling Jaya.
Tel : 03 61482268 (for reservation)

Rakuzen Japanese Food Smile Jul 09, 2012
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Seafood | Ramen/Udon/Soba

Rakuzen has already created a brand name, a sumptuously rich profile that serves high quality Japanese food in Kl & PJ.

The place is usually packed during lunch so be prepared to wait for your table.
The ambiance is great and comfortable.

We went there for a weekday lunch get-to-gather! We ordered the below and spending was about RM25 - 30 per person.

Sushi plate and Udon set
Taste yummy with the variety of suchi served!
Udon is so so only
Rating : 7 of 10

Dragon roll as starter! It is one of Rakuzen special, attractive and decently delicious to me.
Rating: 8 of 10

Unagi Rice set.
Unagi given was not covered the entire top as seen in the menu picture, so we felt a bit dissapointed. However, it was considerably well cook!
Rating: 7 of 10

Chicken Katsu Don set.
It is quite moderate in taste and appearance.
Rating: 7 of 10

Fried Mushroom.
It is crispy, interesting and pipping hot!
Rating: 6 of 10

Yakiniku (Beef) rice set
It has some saltiness and taste just suited his taste bud!
Rating : 8 of 10

We also ordered Chawamushi and Shishamo, due to our hungry stomach in the begining of the meal, we had no time for pictures. LOL!

Overall, I would say that the service quality could be a bit below expectation due to the crowd, however, Rakuzen is still a good place if you are looking for high quality Japanese food.

My overall rating: 8 of 10.

Few years back I was bought to eat this Ipoh Hor Fun by a good aunty who known me only for 2 years. She is a good cook and she recommended this shop to me.
Now I bought my husband to this place and he loves it a lot too!
So you actually do not need to travel all the way back Ipoh to have the best Ipoh Hor Fun.
It is just located at the shop lots next to the wet market TTDI, Jln Wan Kadir 2, TTDI KL.

This is how the shop looks like.
Restaurant Chong Thoong Kee. The gentleman is the shop hired all the man workers to help him continue the family recipe.

We ordered the dumpling soup with 10 pcs of wan tan, all with fresh prawn wrapped inside;
one big and one regular bowls of Ipoh Hor Fun, plus a drink, all in a total of RM18.00

A closer look to the Ipoh Hor Fun.
It has little msg to it but the taste of prawn is there to make the entire soup tasted sweet!
Love it! ** Thumbs up** Must Try!!

Our dumpling soup with vegetables and prawn wan tan.
It was very nice!
It is quite well known with the locals and peoples who visit the Kiara Park nearby.

So please do not miss this when you visit Bandar One Utama or TTDI area ya!

Kinnaree Thai Jaya One Smile Jul 05, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Group/Family dining

Kinnaree Thai Restaurant at Jaya One is a posh Thai dining place.
Kinnaree Thai Restaurant
12-1 Palm Square, Jaya One,
72A Jalan University,
46200 Petaling Jaya,
Selangor.
For reservation call 03-7957 3910; 017 247 0399

It has beautiful Thai ambience, good quality cuttery set. It offers great selection of Thai seafood and tomyam of course.
We tried a variety of their popular chef recommended selections as below:

Papaya Salad
Love the spiciness but it is a bit salty to us.
Portion is quite generous for 8 of us.

Steamed boneless fish with spicy lime sauce
This is my favorite among all.
The fish cook well and it is so easy to eat. The sauce is very nice
Highly recommended!

Pandan Chicken, it is marinated chicken wrapped in pandan leaves.
It is quite filling. Taste OK.

Paku with shrimp paste
It is nice but we think the portion is too little! Tom Yum the traditional spicy and sour soup with seafood...
Quite spicy. It is a must try too. If you prefer less spicy, can try their tom khar, with added coconut milk to the soup. Price is the same.

Deep fried prawn
It is very crispy and fresh. Everyone felt satisfied with it.

Seafood in hot plate with curry
Taste ok only.

Finally, we had our dessert Tub Tim Krub.
Coated water chestnut with jackfruit in coconut milk and shaved ice.
It is a must try too as it is a popular Thai dessert.
It is pretty well done.

Overall, I would say the only minus point is the price. It is about RM50 -60 per person.
