Spiderweb OK Aug 13, 2012   (Related Review)

One of the buns I tried at Free Mori is their Spiderweb bun. It has buttermilk filling and the pastry is dusted with icing sugar and chocolate with spiderweb detailing. Pretty cute - more to attract kids. The filling is alright, the buttermilk is smooth and has a sweetness that was quite understated. The icing sugar topping is a bit too sweet but if they were targetting kids, I guess it does the trick. Worth a a try.

Seafood Platter OK Aug 12, 2012

Ever since I came back from a holiday in Bali, I had a weakness for all things Bali. So I had high hopes when I went to Ole Ole Bali for a meal. I decided to try their Seafood Platter since Balinese cuisine is well known for grilled stuff. I wasn't disappointed as it was pretty appetizing.

The Seafood Platter comes with fish, prawns, squid and balinese satay. Side dishes are a bowl of salad, fried chips and sauce for dipping. The platter came on a basket plate with banana leaf. The fish and prawns were still juicy and fresh and the grilling really brings out the sweet taste of the flesh. The squid is chewy and tasty while the satay could do with some improvement because balinese style is way better than their version. The satay meat was not very well flavoured and tasted a bit lacking in density. The grilled items were served with white rice and sambal which is a good combination. At RM32 the portion is pretty decent and you get what you pay for.

Coffee Popcorn OK Aug 11, 2012   (Related Review)

The coffee flavoured popcorn is one of the later flavours introduced. So far, I have tried the Cheese, Original and Seaweed and found them mild tastewise but still addictive. So I was not prepared for the stronger flavour from the coffee version. There was a strong aroma that hits you when you open the pack but it was a nice aroma of coffee. Once you get it in your mouth, the slight bitter taste of the kernel is quite weird because there was a bit of sweetness mixed in as well. It wasn't as strong as I like and I much prefer my coffee in a cuppa instead of in popcorn. It is definitely not for everyone.

Chicken WIngs

Chicken WIngs

As there was a promotion for high tea at this restaurant, decided to try out some of their dishes. Usually their prices are a little above average so this was a really good chance for us to dine with less damage on our pockets.

I ordered the chicken wings which the chef recommended. It was grilled quite evenly and the skin was quite crispy while the meat was still juicy and has a good marinate to it which was sweet and well flavoured. There was also a light salad accompanying the wings but it was quite normal with not much dressing so it is like eating raw vegetables. The chicken was a little heavy on the salty flavour so it may not be to everyone's liking.

Chicken Satay OK Aug 11, 2012   (Related Review)

Satay

Satay

My previous encounters with satay is mainly from those stalls where I could see the satay being grilled over charcoal stoves so it was quite a change to have it served in a restaurant and only four sticks at that. The chicken meat is well flavoured and tasted good with the grilling well done and the meat still juicy and tender. I feel it lacks the raw charcoal grill texture although the peanut sauce that was served with it was decently flavoured and gave the satay meat extra flavours.
