Nothing beats on a lazy Sunday morning than to stroll along the popular streets of Penang and to try out Penang famous dish – “Hokkien mee”. Arguably Penang most favored dish, Hokkien mee or “Prawn noodles” has long been one of the favorites’ among the locals.
There are two version of Hokkien mee in Penang – One is the soup base and the others are the dry type. Ask any Penangites what is their definition of Hokkien mee andyou’ll definitely get the same answer. It’s a blanched “bee hoon” or “mee” and added with crunchy bean sprouts, kangkung, eggs and sliced prawns with meat laid on top.Together with the good aromatic stock made from prawns, onion, chili paste and served with a sprinkling of fragrant “eu chang” – Shallot fritters, it is the perfect blend which made up the delicious Hokkien mee.
The dry version is called “Hokkien char” by the locals and it is made with fat noodles dried with dark soya sauce and eaten with sambal belacan. A slightly different taste but it is just as delicious. In the olden days, Hokkien mee sellers usually push or cycle their stall along the neighborhood “calling out” loud to tell people about their particular dish, but today the location are fixed at either coffee shops or hawker centreThroughout the island, you can find many places selling Hokkien mee. From Teluk Bahang to Jelutong and from Balik Pulau to Air Itam. The famous ones are perhaps located at Pulau Tikus and Perak Road Market. They have halal or non-halal version of Hokkien mee and is served together with additional top up such as chicken feet, spare ribs, intestines and others ingredients.
em.. for me my choice for yummy Hokkien Mee will be a few… is Pulau Tikus Market ( Swee Kang Coffee Shop, Cathay In Pulau Tikus and lastly will be the one in Yee Hong near BJ)

One of the famous Loh Mee is locaed at the Bee Hooi Coffeeshop which give us an alternative of another nice and delighting Loh Mee. The stall is opened for morning session as well as the night session. The loh mee here is nice and with a not too extreme starchy one but the taste is simply delighting

The overall of the loh mee is a thumb up. Nice. it comes with mee as well as some pork on top and some slices of egg. It is nicer when it serves with garlic.

Taste: 4/5
Price: RM3.50

Corner Club Restaurant is indeed a great place to dine for dim sum. The restaurant which is not to packed with people and air-condition is greatly a nice place to dine for dim sum. The restaurant is clean and the service is good which I love the most. Other than that, we are well being served with the menu and we choose the item from there.Started off with the deep fried shrimp rolls, it is indeed brings me a disappointment where the items are being served cold. The texture is quite soft which did not turns appetizing to me.
Taste: 2/5
Price: RM 4.00

Recently when I back to Penang, I spotted a shop at Bee Hooi which serves a nice and affordable economy rice. This stall is actually located just infront of Bee Hooi coffeeshop which used to sell pizza at night. In the morning the shop offers a variety of stalls like chicken rice and others. So, this time, me and dear went for the shop to have our lunch.

So, it can be said that the food here is all freshly cooked daily to be served to the customers. There are variety’s of local delicious food which you can have chicken, meat, pork, fish as well as veges and seafood.

The uncle serves a nice spicy curry chicken which catches my eyes when I saw the red red curry soup which looks spicy as well as the drumstick as well.. yum yum.. I could not resist to order one … hehehe

Heaty weather in Penang had stop me to enjoy the desserts in the nearby shop near the Wat CHayamangkalaram temple. The house converted restaurant is simply beautifully design. We made an order of the Thap Trim Krawp which is the mock pomegranate seeds in coconut ice syrup. The sweet delights to favour after the meals give me a disappointment as the jackfruit is slightly bitter.
