Antipasto Lunch Buffet Smile Jul 25, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Italian | Hotel Dining | Pizza/Pasta | Fine Dining

Built on stilts above a scenic lake overlooking the beautiful tropical garden, Senja Italian Restaurant has a very romantic setting, with classy, exquisite seats and a bar with live band performance at night. Now that it is opened to all, for the daytime dining.

And today I get an opportunity to sample the Antipasto Misto Lunch Buffet: 3-Course Meal.

Polenta with Fennel and Gorgonzola Dressing

Being a staple food of the north, this elegant mush is made from finely grounded maize, sprinkled with grilled fennel and light cheesy gorgonzola. Full of health goodness, it is soft, slightly sweet and creamy in texture.

Filetto di Branzino con Spinaci Saltati Salso Mediterraneo e Bucce Di Arance Candite @ RM 75

Alternatively, you can order from the ala carte menu. Two thick fillets of sea bass is moist and pretty well-balanced up with the spicy seafood sauce and orange zest. I enjoy its firm yet flaky texture, thumbs up!

Tortino Morbido al Cioccolato con Caramel Croccantine e Gelato @ RM29

Forget about French, in English it is simply dubbed as "Snickers Version 2009". Well, it is a piece of hot chocolate cake served with a strike of crunchy caramel biscuit topped with a scoop of chocolate ice cream. A double chocolate sensation it is, I shall call it the star of the day! The best moment arrives when the rich chocolate lava oozes out from the cake. A simple mixture of egg, butter and chocolate, in the hands of Chef Giunta, can be so rich and thick with the melt-in-the-mouth feel! What's more about it is the deep chocolate flavour pairs wonderfully with the Häagen-Dazs ice cream.

Ramadhan Buffet at Planter's Inn Smile Jul 25, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Restaurant | Buffet

From 21 July 2012 to 18 August 2012, Planters' Inn is offering a wide spread of sumptuous buffet along with Terawih Prayers by the Imam, collection of Zakat as well as Ghazal live band performance for the diners!

From appetizers to desserts, I have over 100 choices for a sumptuous meal. But my favourite is this Marinated Roasted Whole Lamb with Garlic & Lemongrass at the Carving Station. I enjoy the tender roasted lamb with a zest of minty sauce. Simply nicely done and it is bursting with flavours from the marinade!

At the Mongolian BBQ Counter, I can choose among Assorted Raw Vegetables, Chicken Breast, Gizzard, Lamb, Red Snapper, almon Flower Crab, Fresh Prawn, Squid and Green Mussel. My stomach keeps growling when the aroma of BBQ wafts in the air. Sprinkled with sesame seeds, Mongolian BBQ is lighter in taste, less oily and healthier in a way. The beef is grilled into perfection and I enjoy the deep flavours yet not overly salty.

For hot dessert, I have something different than the usual Bread and Butter Pudding. The Chef recommends me the freshly-baked blueberry pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream sprinkled with chocolate rice for the perfect hot and cold enjoyment. The bread crumbs on the pudding is really crispy and sweet. Indeed it suits my sweet tooth very well that I go for another bowlful!

Pin Xiang Seafood Restaurant Smile Jul 25, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Kopitiam | Seafood | Noodles

During the day, Pin Xiang offers the famous Ipoh Chicken Rice as well as a huge selections of noodles from Prawn Mee to Wantan Mee. I'm fortunate to visit this shop in the evening to try the home-style Chinese dishes. The ambiance itself is very warm, giving me a homey feel.

Kai Lan with Yam (芋头炒芥兰) @ RM25

The yam and vegetables in this dish actually work, but it is the chunks of yam that has me cloud nine. It is deep-fried but the mushy texture blends well with the vegetables, adding extra sweet flavours into it.

Spare Ribs in “Pou Ging” Sauce (葡京一支骨) @ RM5 per piece

I love pork with generous amount of sauce. The fall-off-the-bone tender ribs are well-suffused with deep-seated sweet, sourish nuances. The creaminess of the sauce is simply irresistible!

Fried Noodle with Big Prawns (生虾炒生面) @ Seasonal Price

If you’re a seafood lover like me, I strongly recommend you this noodle dish perfectly crowned with gigantic prawns in the light, eggy gravy. Each spoonful of crispy rice noodle is not overly gooey, but good enough with hints of seafood sweetness. Very filling and the prawns are firm and fresh!

New A La Carte Menu @ Toh Yuen Smile Jul 25, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Private Party | Special Occasion Dining

Toh Yuen Chinese Restaurant is no longer a new icon within the vicinity of Petaling Jaya. Famed for its impressive Dim Sum menu, now it introduces a whole new ala carte menu for both lunch and dinner. Glancing through the menu, I know I'm going to dine like a queen tonight!

Deep Fried Smoked Duck with Fruit Sauce
(果酱酥炸烟熏鸭) @ RM38

One of the key highlights would be my favourite smoked duck with a great helping of tangy fruit sauce on a bed of sliced mangoes. Adding a twist to the local taste buds, the thin layer of meat burst with sweetness from the unique combination of fruits. Delicious!

Sauteed “Gong Bao” Vegetarian Chicken with Yam Ring
(素佛钵炒宫保鸡丁) @ RM60

I almost got deceived by the chicken cubes because it looks and tastes as though it is real chicken meat! The mushy yam uncovers some succulent and crunchy bits of meat and vege, topped with generous amount of cashew nuts. The sauce is quite thick, sweet and salty. Lovely!

Deep Fried Banana with Strawberry & Cheese Cake
酥脆香蕉芝士蛋糕) @ RM30

My favourite cheese cake and strawberry are stuffed into the fritter and deep-fried into golden brown perfection. Beyond the crispy hot skin lies the melting sweet texture, which is truly good and I'd wish to request for more! The dessert is surprisingly not overly sweet, but filled with layers of texture and myriad sweet flavours.

TEMPTationS Ramadhan Buffet Smile Jul 09, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Malaysian variety | Multi-Cuisine | Hotel Dining | Buffet

From 19 July to 18 August 2012, the TEMPTationS, Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel buffet offers a wide array of all the Buka Puasa specials. Personally, I'm quite amazed as they serve one of the most extensive buffets that I've ever tried. The environment itself is very warm, giving a homey feel for the celebration of the festival.

Gulai Ikan Tenggiri

Stewed in thick curry broth, I simply fall in love with this mackerel fish curry which brings a mixed concoctions of spicy and sour taste, along with the bursting flavours from the assorted vegetables. Best to go with steamed white rice!

Itik Rendang Kering

Besides Malaysians' favourite Rendang Ayam Kampong, the duck dried rendang emerges as one of my favourites. The fragrant smell is contributed by the long hours of simmering coconut milk and spices, which in turn keeps the duck meat so moist and not as tough as I thought. Quite sweet and not overly spicy.

Kek Lapis Nusantara

Another highlight of the meal, the local layered cake, which is traditionally known for its unique taste and ways of preparation. Between each firm layer lies the moist spongy texture, it's simply delicious and not cloying at all! Hardly sweetened like those from Indonesia. There are baskets of Buah Kurma (dates) for you on the buffet spread too.
