Another dish you have to try in Penang is cendol/chendul! This little stall is located in a side lane that is slightly hidden if you are not observant. How do you know you found the right one? It will be crowded with people standing while slurping their cendol! A strange sight indeed. The bowl of cold cendol is very fragrant with gula Melaka and coconut milk. Lots of cendol and beans are floating in the sweet and salty soup.

This Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul is a family business from their great grandfather. The stall is located at a side lane of the road just outside the Joo Hooi coffeeshop. The chendul comes with a bowl of shaved ice, coconut milk, gula melaka, chendul and read beans. The taste is sweet and some salty taste due to the coconut milk at the same time leaving my mouth with fragrance of gula melaka. The red beans are nicely cooked, sweet and sandy. Great combination with the chendul. Very refreshing and chilling for a bowl of chendul especially for the hot weather like in Penang. I always finish my bowl of chendul happily and satisfying.

You can stand at the road side to enjoy the chendul or order into the Joo Hooi coffeeshop but with extra RM0.50 service charge.

Ice Kacang - RM 1.90, but add RM 0.50 if you're eating inside the coffee shop.
What's inside the ice kacang?
Well, there are ice of course, jelly, cincau, corn and the white colour thingy which I don't know
whats in English, but in Hokkien, we call it ''Atap-ji''

However, my taste is slightly different than a lot of people.
I feel their ice kacang is just plain ordinary and nothing unique or one of a kind about it.
The sweetness of the ice kacang is just average and so is the taste!

Anyway, this stall is so famous that even Singapore actor and actress,
Phua Chu Kang (Gumit Singh) and Rosie (Irene Ang) too try at their stall.

Teochew Cendul
The cendul comes in a small bowl, and it is sweet, chilling and refreshing with nice aroma from gula melaka and coconut milk. Having the soup together with cendul and red bean is indeed a perfect combination, and eating this under the hot sun is no doubt something enjoyable.

Teochew ChendulIt started with a "bike" stall at the road side and have since then bloom into several outlet not just around Penang but also one in Klang Valley, that's what I heard at least. Never admit visiting Penang until you try this Chendul.

I like Penang Road Cendol so much. Normally, I hang around by motorbike with my boyfriend. You know, if you try it under the hot sun, the satisfaction is higher than having Cendol in their branches located in shopping mall.

There's two chendol stalls located on this street and there's an ongoing debate of which stalls churned out the best cendol. Left or Right? My advise is just eat from both side and compare it yourselves. Personally, please do not flame me, I prefered Melaka Cendol. Where they poured the thick gula melaka syrup on top of the shaved ice with thick coconut milk and tasty firmer cendol with heavy pandan aroma. Penang's version had softer cendol, brown sugar syrup, kidney beans and melting shaved ice that is not so sweet. Surrounded with zooming motorcycles, dusty lanes and slurping a bowl of ice under the hot sun next to weary tourists. Still a must-try at Penang!
