这里除了jogya,原来还有其他的自助餐,这里的选择并没有很多,食物的味道也还好,我来到的这一天的海鲜什么都很新鲜。虽然其他食物的味道并没有很好,但是我对这里印象还不错。

Gonbei San

Gon-bei San is a pretty famous Japanese buffet restaurant located in Starhill Gallery. I was there for the lunch buffet and even those it was on a working day, I found the place still pretty quiet and cosy. The Japanese food selection wasn't extremely extensive but the food served were of good quality. Of all the food served, I quite like the cold soba. It was something different than the usual ones I have tasted.

After highly recommended by my friends few years back, I was ecstatic to able to get a good offer online to enjoy the much anticipated Japanese buffet lunch at Gonbei @ Starhill. To my disappointment, only the entrance was memorable. The choice of food was quite limited and the portion was a little too small for my liking. As for the food, it was only so -so. The only one worth eating was the fresh Oysters and the Sashimi. Choice of drinks: green tea or iced Teh O. This isn't a Japanese buffet

Food prepared by master chef trained in Japanese cuisine and most interesting is their Menu rotated daily.the sushi i like the most. refill fast and i love the inari- made from the taufu and fill with tuna and also the ebiko inside. fresh made from the chef and refill very fast from the staff and service is good. also like the udon and cold soba. udon is smooth and the soup based is delicious

I have heard numerous reviews about how unworthy and less choices of food here in Gonbei-san. Starhill's upmarket Japanese restaurant reopened this month _ adding a "San" to its name _ after a lengthy refurbishment. Still feels like the same place though. The sashimi platter is tasty, but terribly pricey, due to its premium components of otoro (the fattiest part of the tuna, with a melt-in-the-mouth feel akin to pork belly), hamachi (yellowtail), salmon belly & raw prawns. Grilled oysters with spicy mayo. Lovably luscious, perfectly prepared; the savory combination of the fleshy oysters and the creamy mayo is almost a sensual pleasure.

The cocktails _ underpinned by sake and shochu _ display more creativity. Here are the Himomaru (hot sake, umeboshi) & Morino Batah (avocado, nigori sake).

Musk melon. OK, have to whinge about the prices one more time, since these two slices cost RM130++ (!!!). The melons are ripe and juicy, but not lusciously nectarous enough to warrant the expense. Live and learn, right?

Back to Gonbei San. Kicking off this round with sea urchin. A sizable serving of the ocean's golden gem; subtly sweet but also beautifully briny, as uni uniquely is. Mixed tempura, comprising kisu (sillago fish), shiitake mushrooms, eggplant & prawns. Competently executed, but not the most memorable moment of our meal. Dobin Mushi (soup with ginkgo nuts, chicken, shrimp & trefoil herbs, served in earthen pot). Blazing-hot broth, though not terribly flavorsome.

Back to Gonbei San. Sunomono Moriawase (vinegared seafood, seaweed & cucumber with sesame seeds). Refreshingly tangy and perky, with a mild pickled flavor. Tamago Yaki. Warm, light and pillow-soft. Healthier than regular fried omelets too. A creative cocktail, Bloody Mari-Chan (shochu, tomato juice, togarashi), as well as Kozutsumi Kuri Shochu, made using Tanba-Guri chestnuts, reputedly Japan's best.

Back to Gonbei San. Yellowtail steamed in rice wine. Delectable; the eyes have it, glutinous & gooey. Teppan prawns. Creamy crustaceans _ smoky, savory & superbly succulent. Crisp, fresh salad to keep things healthy. It's a decent outlet, with super-friendly service. Frankly though, I kinda think the makeover made very little difference. It looked the same to me.

Back to Gonbei San. Mentaiko mania! Roe is always a treat, whether in Japanese cuisine or nasi kandar. Seaweed roll of tuna belly, garlic & chives. Melts in the mouth, not on the chopsticks. Gonbei San boasts KL's best selection of Japanese liquor by the cup. Here's the Saiba Kome Shochu & 7-year-aged Okinawan Mugen No Utage Awamori (30 percent alcohol, yay!).
