TaiTao, meaning “Big Head” in Cantonese, is a popular steamboat restaurant at Bandar Menjalara, Kepong. The name “TaiTao” is derived from the nick name of the restaurant’s owner. He opened the restaurant in 2004, hoping to create a homey place for steamboat lovers to enjoy fresh and delicious steamboat with families and friends.
Occupying a corner lot and a shop lot, TaiTao offers both indoor and outdoor dining options with a spacious seating of up to 200 people. Regulars flock to the restaurant for its signature steamboat set, consisting of fresh prawn, fish fillet, squid, fish fillet, fish noodles, fish paste, fish ball, bean curd, fried tofu skin, black fungus, vegetables, etc.
Apart from the popular steamboat set, the restaurant also features more than 100 a la carte food items, including pork slices, beef slices, mutton slices, tiger prawn, pompret, scallop, fried dumpling, fried prawn and many more. For soup base, you have a choice of Clear Soup, Herbal Soup, Spicy Soup, Porridge Soup and Tom Yam Soup.
In this coming food tasting, our lucky OpenRice members are able to try four new a la carte items for steamboat!
1. Drunken Prawn 醉虾煲
A special a la carte item for Clear Soup. The dish consists of raw prawns, black fungus, and garlics in fragrant Chinese wine soup. You can turn the whole steamboat into drunken prawn steamboat by simply adding the dish into the clear soup! The fun part is you can add it anytime you like to enhance your dining experience!
2. Fish Slices with Garlic and Spring Onion 姜葱鱼片
A special a la carte item for Porridge Soup. Add the raw fish slices into the porridge and turn the soup base into fish porridge! Remember to add in the garlic and spring onion as well to reduce the fishy smell. The fish fillet is so fresh that it is a perfect match with the smooth porridge!
3. Kung Pao Frog 宫保田鸡
Have you ever tried making Kong Pao Frog with steamboat? The a la carte item comes with a raw frog with spring onions and garlics and a plate of Kung Pao sauce. Cook the frog in Clear Soup. After the frog meat is cooked, stir it with kung pao sauce to create your own Kung Pao Frog!
4. La-la with Superior Broth 上汤拉拉
Another special a la carte item for Clear Soup. The raw la-la is drenched in delicious superior broth. Add the item into the Clear Soup to transform the whole steamboat into la-la soup with a rich flavour of seafood!
TaiTao has also created a new Spicy Sate Sauce made of peanuts and a variety of spices to elevate your steamboat experience to a whole new level!
