Tucked in a corner at the Isetan Eat Paradise in One Utama, Ichiro Sushi Bar looks quite unassuming. It is not noticeable if you don’t walk deeper inside into the place. The restaurant uses very high technology for ordering as every table has a touch screen with their entire menu in it. Didn’t know what was good, so ended up ordering the set menu so that I can sample a bit of everything. The spaces in the restaurant are really limited, and they do not have tables for groups of more than four. Anyhow, back to the food. First up is the appetiser of salmon and tuna. Nothing amazing as the cubed salmon and shredded tuna tasted just like it should. Next were two pieces of salmon sashimi and tuna sashimi each. They were really fresh, not fishy at all. Third item was the chawan mushi, steamed egg custard with mushroom, crab stick, a piece of chicken and a gingko nut. Slightly over steamed but still excellent. Fourth item was the assortment of tempura with prawn, brinjal, sweet potato and ladies’ finger. The batter was light, and not oily at all. The main course was the cheese unagi roll. It was delicious. Cheese, cucumber and seaweed wrapped in rice and topped with unagi, with a dab of teriyaki sauce and sprinkled with sesame seed, every mouthful was a burst of flavour. Dessert was either green tea or black sesame ice cream. Decided to order both as I didn’t know which one to choose from. The green tea ice cream was creamy and flavourful but I thought that the black sesame ice cream was a bit bitter. Overall a great meal for RM35 and I will definitely come again to try out other food in the menu.
