Bought this from Fat Spoon. Tried something new which is an ice-cream with salted gula Malacca taste. The taste was fresh as I din't try it before. Something new which worth to give a try. Normal ice-cream stalls or brands just have something in common else Fat Spoon created something new and fresh taste which worth for me to give a try on. The taste of the salt mix with gula Malacca taste is nice. Yummy~
The exterior and interior of Fat Spoon both tug my heartstrings and I instantly fell in love with the design of the restaurant. It is a unique combination of vintage yet remain chic and funky at the same time. It is evident as well that much thought has been put into the overall decoration of the restaurant judging by the intricate details of the layout. For example the old woven baskets with variety of design and type hanging on the walls. The old woven chairs is reminiscience of the rattan chairs back in grandparents home. It truly gives a nostalgia feeling.
Menu:
The menu grabs the most attention. It was the first time I've seen a Peter and Jane Ladybirds book turn into a menu haha. The pages were torn a bit on the edges and the books is a bit old as well and this give rise to suspicioun that its the restaurant owner actual books. The idea is also very cost efficient as well as compared to more expensive menu printed on expensive paper with thick binders. I absolutely loved it as these books really bring old childhood memories and kindergarden days and guess what, the books themselves are much older than me! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED how creative they make these into a menu!!! HEHEHE Pardon the constant ravings haha 
Hot Chocolate - The hot chocalate is rich and taste a bit like the one I had back in Melbourne in a popular drinks hangout called "Max Brenner". Aroma was thick as well and I am just simply glad it does not taste like "Milo" as usual restaurants "hot chocalate" drinks was Milo. The leaf design was cute as well but I would prefer them to come out with cuter designs such as the a flower, smiley etc. These designs has been all the rage in various drinks outlets and Fat Spoon should keep it up too
Claypot "Loh Shu Fan" - This was supposed to be their signature dish and it was okay. The lou shu fan was tender and a bit burned on the sides. The dish was saucy with various ingredients. However the sauce was a bit too salty and makes me very thirsty after the meal. The egg was a fabulous add to the dish as it balances out the salty taste of it. Parsley and spring onions add a refreshing taste to it as well.
Prawn Fritters- This is absolutely delicious. The fritters was fried just perfectly and it was both cripsy on the outside but prawn meat was juicy and tender on the inside. The prawans used were the small type not the big prawns type. The flour used was also the right portion as it is not too thick nor too thin. One complain was perhaps the portion could be BIGGER! haha. Greedy me. As it leaves me craving for more.
Ulam Fried Rice - One of the signature dishes and the one which most people called! The fried rice itself has a little elements of lemongrass bits which makes the whole dish smell and taste unique. It comes with fried chicken, acar and papadam! It was totally worth it and a must- try.
Banana Fritters with Vanilla Ice Cream - After the delicious prawn fritters leave us craving for more, we ordered another plate of Banana Fritters haha. It was again, absolutely delicious and mouth watering. The Banana fritters is crispy yet moist and juicy on the inside. It instantly melts in your mouth with a lingering taste. The Ice cream complements the meals as it is cold while the Banana fritters is serve hot. The vanilla ice cream serve was okay and taste like those out of the ice cream box however. I absolutely love the sweet chocalatey sauce dripping over the banana fritters as well. Overall a very delicious meal and a big thumbs up to the chef.
Even the drinks are worth mentioning at Fat Spoon! I had an ice lemon tea that tasted just like any other ordinary tea, but Wendy was smart enough to go for their Fat Hot Chocolate! At RM9.90, it's understandable if you balk at the price, but trust us - this cuppa is really worth having, particularly if you don't like coffee or if it's a cold rainy day. I guarantee the smoothness and creaminess will warm the cockles of your heart. =D
Fat Spoon also boasts a local range of desserts, from cempedak spring rolls to tong sui (Chinese sweet soup desserts) but in true sweet tooth fashion, we went for the most unhealthy one - the Chocolate Cake with Ice Cream! The cake was extremely moist, one of the best we've had around town at that price! Piling on 2 scoops of ice-cream is also a wonderful touch, since it's always a tough job sharing one scoop evenly. =P
I wasn't in a rice mood that night, so I had the Curry Chicken with Meehoon (RM 8.90). Served in a rather shallow glass dish, it reminds me of those I have at home. At first glance it looks like a typical dry curry meehoon, and the first impression isn't far off from the real thing. The homemade curry chicken and gravy is flavourful and done just right, and the whole thing is hardly spicy - good for those who like curry but don't want to suffer for it! Great comfort food.
We decided to give the Sambal Fried Rice (RM 11.90) a go, but was surprised when the fried rice was lacking in sambal flavour. Instead the sambal belacan was served separately in a small side dish. Definitely a bit disconcerting, since we thought the name Sambal Fried Rice should imply sambal fried into the rice. I suppose they serve it separately so that everyone can choose how much sambal to add. Apart from that, there was nothing to gripe about this dish. The chicken was nice and crispy, and the rice was fried well with plenty of 'wok hei'. A simple yet hearty and satisfying dish.
Instead of starting off with the usual soup or bread, we decided to have some Prawn Fritters (RM 7.90, 6 pcs). Although I was expecting battered shrimp, what emerged was cucur udang, except with a lot more prawns that usual! The batter was full of prawns, and light and crispy. We thoroughly enjoyed this, especially when paired with the chilli sauce. We wish we could have the recipe...heh.
Peruk ikan with bread is another special local food that they serve in Fat Spoon restaurant. The peruk ikan that they serve here is very tasteful but not salty, inside it has the softness and tenderness of the fish, crispiness and crunchiness of the mixed vegetables and the taste is just right for the pairing with the bread they give. The bread itself is very fluffy and buttery too. Something worth trying and good for sharing.
Fat Spoon restaurant is one of the places that serves the last polka ice cream. Their salted gula melaka ice cream is something very worth trying. The texture is very compact as it is how they prepare gelato, they prepare this ice cream. The taste of the combination of saltiness and sweetness of gula melaka is very interesting and I personally liked it a lot. Something ideal for sharing between friends.
The nasi ulam with fried chicken is one of the best-seller of Fat Spoon restaurant. Their nasi ulam is a very interesting dish. The rice itself is very tasteful and nicely fried. It comes with golden brown fried chicken, keropok and pickled cucumber on the side. The fried chicken is very crispy and not oily, something really nice. The cucumber is very fresh too, adding some refreshing hint to the dish. Something worth trying.
Fat Spoon serves a lot of coffee beverages. Their cappuccino is something recommended. As its name suggests, cappuccino has the perfect proportion of 50 percent milk and 50 percent foam. The texture of their cappuccino is very foamy, bubbly, smooth and creamy. The coffee kick is very strong too, you can taste the freshly grounded coffee beans that they use here. Also, the coffee art they make here is very nice, something delighting.
Fat Spoon is a restaurant that serves a wide range of great modern fusion food, including some local specialties. Other than that, they also serve great coffee here. Their flat white here is freshly brewed by grounded coffee beans and the coffee sends a strong kick of coffee taste. Also, worth mentioning is the coffee art they do, which is another attraction of their coffee, not only an enjoyment to the taste buds, but also the eyes. A great place for coffee I would say.
Last Sunday i went to fat spoon cafe to have lunch with my friend.This restaurant is located at Damansara Uptown, Petaling Jaya. This is their fat spoon noodle, which is kuey tiao soup. It is slightly expensive as is not really big portion. This bowl of kuey tiao soup comes with prawn, chicken, vegetable and bean sprout. The soup is really tasty and nice. The chicken and prawn are fresh too. Overall this kuey tiao soup is quite ok, it's just the price slightly high.
