The day we went to have dinner at Double Joy was when I was not feeling very well. So you can imagine my displeasure when we arrived and the place was quite full of people, plus the weather was kind of hot which agitated me even further. It is safe to say that by then I was just expecting the worst for dinner. The steamed ginger and scallion fish that we ordered was.... It was not the best nor was it terrible. The one thing that I was looking forward to is the sauce which was quite scarce and there wasn't really much ginger either so the flavour was only so-so.As always, my family's favourite is the Claypot Pork Belly with Salted Fish. I remember eating plenty of this growing up so I already know what is good and what isn't. Although the one I had at Double Joy was not the best, I can say that they cook this dish much better than a whole lot of other restaurants. The sauce was nicely thick with a hint of spiciness from the dried chillies. And the best dish of the night was the stewed yam with pork ribs. Usually the yam that we get elsewhere is only tender but the one at Double Joy was so soft that it melted into the stew till it's almost like a thick soup. Plus the taste was amazing. For someone that was kind of sick this was very comforting and I couldn't stop drinking the sauce, dousing it all over my rice.  continue reading

I love food cooked in the clay pot as the taste very much difference compared wok stir fried. The smell just 'Boom' up when food serve right in front of you. It remains dish hot in temperature till the end. The Clay Pot Salted Fish Chicken full of flavor as the dark sauce mixture of hoi sin sauce , oyster sauce and a few drops of Chinese rice wine or Hua Tiau I guessed. Some crispy salted fish which cut into stripes for topping, chicken meat was smooth and tender .........very appetizing , definitely you need more rice for this awesome dish. Another dish was Homemade Soy Tofu, this soy tofu deep fried until golden brown and it had nice smell of soy, smooth and light in texture. It stir fried with Seng Gua (Petola) some prawns and mushroom slices too. Overall for this dish was delicious. continue reading

This restaurant was recently relocated to a new shop, but it is only few shops away from its previous location. Therefore, locating it should not be a problem. The yong chow fried rice here is not bad. The last time i took away the yong chow fried rice was RM 6.00 for one person's portion. Even though it was meant for one person, it is quite huge. The yong chow fried has lots of char siew cubes, shrimps, frozen vegetables and egg. continue reading
