For weekend brunch, my uncle brought the family to have brunch in Kuchai Lama. Well I went along since I had an appointment with my chiropractor there anyway and free food so there's no complains from me. At first I thought we were going for our usual dim sum fix, however he brought us here for something new. As a staple hakka dish, the abascus yam is a must order. However this was only so so and I personally do not like it because we've had better elsewhere. The little balls were so stodgy that after eating two piece left me feeling so heavy. We also ordered this dish where it's just stir-fried pork intestines with stomach. This was actually pretty good and honestly the only thing out of everything else we ordered that I liked. Definitely worth the order if intestines are your thing.As fir everything else like the hokkien mee and yong tau fu, honestly think they are mediocre at best. However it is still nice but nothing to shout about.  continue reading

这个烧鸡的肉质吃起来有点干硬。鸡肉的外皮并没有很酥脆,好像放了一段时间这样。鸡肉的味道带有一点咸咸的味道,很普通的烧鸡肉。酱汁也没有什么特别,里面的味道有一些蒜米香。 continue reading

这里的瓦煲 X.O. 鱼头米相当出名,他们的炸鱼头肉十分大块,鱼肉光滑非常可口,里面还有番茄和一些腌制的咸菜等等。汤底里还有X.O.酒里独特的香味,姜片与奶来提升鲜味,可以说它们汤底的味道很浓郁,非常了得。简直太神奇了!一定要试试! continue reading

One of the recommended dishes here is the Mantis Prawn with Salted Egg. The prawns are breaded before being deep fried and served with fried egg strips and curry leaves. There were small pieces salted egg yolks too and it really combines the ingredients together.The prawns tasted crunchy and well marinated to give it lots of flavour. The egg strips, curry leaves and salted egg yolks gave it an extra kick which made it really unique. I would prefer the prawn to be cut a little bit bigger for good sized mouthful. Due to most of the ingredients being deep fried, it was a bit oily but the taste really made up for it. Worth a try. continue reading

Serving and taking order are equally fast. This non air-con restaurant is always crowded during lunch hours everyday except Sunday which is their rest day. The restaurant serves variety of local food such as fish head noodle, chicken wine mee sua, claypot tiny tails, Hokkien and Cantonese fried noodles other local Chinese dishes etcWe had Fried Mantis Shrimp with salted egg yolks. Looks yummy initially! Overall, improvement is required. Further, it was slightly oily and lacking of salted egg yolks. Mantis Shrimp is small or rather the portion is small. Other than this dish, the rest of the dishes are good. continue reading
