Toh Yuen is a Chinese restaurant that located in Hilton Petaling Jaya. The restaurant is well decorated in a modern interpretation of traditional Oriental feel. I especially like the giant Chinese calligraphy curtains that hang along the big windows. The restaurant seats up to 110 people with 4 private rooms that accommodate up to 10 people each. Recently, I had the pleasure to try out their newly launched a la carte menu that Chef Lee highlights a wide array of traditional Chinese recipes he had embraced from China. Chef Lee made few adjustments at the dishes to adapt our local culinary taste.
The highlights that I tried out and would like to recommend at here are Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab with Garlic and Chicken Floss, Smoked Duck with Fruit Sauce and Sautéed Fresh Prawn with Salted Egg Yolk. Although chef deep fried the soft shell crab but surprisingly it was not that oily. The generous amount of chicken floss as topping enhance a lot of its taste and fragrance while eat it together. It costs 22 Ringgit Malaysia and the portion is nice for 2 to 3 people. I am not a duck person but Chef Lee's Smoked (Spring Tea) Duck with Fruit Sauce really caught my fancy. First of all, the meat was tender and it was in slices for the convenience of lazy people like me. Secondly, chef wisely paired it with fruits and dragon fruit sauce to help balance the oily nature of duck meat. It costs 38 Ringgit Malaysia and the portion is nice for 2 to 3 people.
Any prawn dish is my all-time favorite; therefore I enjoyed very much Chef Lee's Sautéed Fresh Prawn with Salted Egg Yolk. The fresh prawn was cooked till crunchy and crisp before coated with the fragrance creamy salted egg yolk. Thumb up for its rich in flavor.
