Din Tai Fung @ e@Curve Smile Sep 01, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles | Dim sum

Serving delicious Chinese cuisine, award winning Din Tai Fung has 4 outlets in Malaysia at The Gardens Mall, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Empire Shopping Gallery Subang Jaya and e@Curve Mutiara Damansara. Din Tai Fung specializes in dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) as well as traditional Taiwanese and Shanghainese cuisine. The restaurant is well decorated in a modern interpretation of traditional Oriental feel. The service is good here with highly attentive servers to fulfill every patron's requests.
Xiao Long Bao

Xiao Long Bao

Being the all-time signature classic, the exquisite Xiao Long Bao is a must to order dish at Din Tai Fung. I enjoyed the fun eating experience where natural juices of sweetness burst from the flavorful minced meat under its translucent firm dumpling skin. To maintain its quality, each steamed to perfection Xiao Long Bao is carefully weighed and its skin crafted into 18 exquisite folds.

To have the perfect dip sauce, try to pour 1 part soy sauce and 3 parts vinegar into the ginger dish. Place the Xiao Long Bao onto your spoon and make a small hole to release the broth inside. Therefore, have it while served hot before the skin lost its moisture and hard to make hole after it turned cold. Place some ginger on the Xiao Long Bao according to your own preference.
Truffle Xiao Long Bao

Truffle Xiao Long Bao

For more luxurious choice, I tried the premium Truffle Xiao Long Bao that costs 14 Ringgit Malaysia for 2 pieces or 36 Ringgit Malaysia for 6 pieces. Even without the usual accompaniments, it has a unique taste of its own as the natural flavors of pork and imported truffles (chef use a special blend of black and white truffle) well complement each other.

Din Tai Fung has a wide selection of simple yet delectable fare of menu that cooked healthily with fresh ingredients. I shall definitely come back here for more great dining experience!

Fei Fei Crab Restaurant @ Kepong Smile Sep 01, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Steaks / Chops | Seafood

Known for his creative creation of crab dishes in different tastes, Chef Tan is the owner and head chef at Fei Fei Crab Restaurant that located in Desa Aman Puri Kepong. The interior is simple and neat with air-conditioning. Big round tables are available here to offer comfortable dining experience for family or friends that come in group.

The highlights that I tried out and would like to recommend at here are Salt Wrap Fish and Peanut Butter Crab.
Salt Wrap Fish

Salt Wrap Fish

Salt Wrap Fish was the dish that caught most of my fancy. It requires an elaborate cooking preparation and technique, hence booking is highly recommended or else you might need to wait for an hour and half in order to savor this unique Salt Wrap Fish. The fish was caught fresh from aquarium upon order and not refrigerated. It was because fresh fish still retained its gooey texture which was important to ensure the fine salt sticked nicely on the fish's skin before chef cooked it.

The fish was very fresh with a little bit of salty taste. The outer skin was fully covered by white layers of fine salt, so do not act smart and pick one to taste unless you want to only drink water throughout the dining. Chef stuffed blended ginger and spring onion inside the fish's stomach to give the dish more taste and aroma.
Peanut Butter Crab

Peanut Butter Crab

I am huge fan of crab dishes and enjoyed very much the Peanut Butter Crab here. The crab was fresh and big, tasted wonderful with its thick creamy butter gravy that had a hint of spiciness coming from the small chili paddy. As usual, 'man tao' was served and it matched very well with the butter gravy that had chunked peanuts inside.

Food here is reasonable priced with not stingy portion. I shall definitely come back here to indulge more nice food especially the crabs!

Entree Cafe @ Damansara Utama Smile Sep 01, 2012

Opened on November 2011, Entree Cafe (pronounced /anh-tray/) that serves nice Asian fusion food (pork-free) is located in Damansara Utama Petaling Jaya. The restaurant is very easy to spot for its big black color signboard. However, parking in Damansara Utama is usually headache especially during weekdays' working hours, so do expect some walking distance from your parking bay.

Entree Cafe's interior is simple and neat with air-conditioning. I like the interesting mural that's on their big light green color main wall to compliment the hung attractive food photos. The cafe is operated by the friendly pair of husband and wife who passion to cook and enjoy to explore good food.
Famous 46th Rangoon Street Laksa

Famous 46th Rangoon Street Laksa

I had their well worth slurping up signature classic Famous 46th Rangoon Street Laksa that was 9.80 Ringgit Malaysia per bowl. It was served with prawn, shredded chicken, crispy bean curd skin, tofu pok, bean sprout and smooth silky pan mee style of noodle in my liking thick creamy curry broth. The spiciness of mild curry broth is at my acceptance level with remarkably flavor. For extra info, Rangoon or normally know as Yangon is the capital city of Burma or Myanmar.
Deep Fried Jackfruit Spring Roll with Passion Fruit Coulis and Ice Cream

Deep Fried Jackfruit Spring Roll with Passion Fruit Coulis and Ice Cream

To end my meal, I had the Deep Fried Jackfruit Spring Roll with Passion Fruit Coulis and Ice Cream. Chef deep fried the spring roll that stuffed with real sliced jackfruit till crispy and golden brown outside. Served while hot so eat it together with the vanilla flavor ice cream is wonderful combination. The fragrance passion fruit coulis enhanced the whole dessert experience by giving it different layer of texture and taste.

I like Entree Cafe's concept here that great food is to share over meals with people you love. Their fusion of hearty meals is ranging from refreshing appetizers, entrees and luscious desserts. I shall definitely come back here to indulge more good food!

Serving traditional Korean cuisine, Oiso Cafe is located in The Sphere at Bangsar South City Kuala Lumpur. The owner is a Korean man who already lives in Malaysia with his family more than 5 years. Using his mom home cooked recipe, I like Oiso Cafe's concept that saying 'the best recipe comes from our heart'.

Oiso Cafe has a simple and neat interior with warm and cozy ambiance that is perfect for family and friends dining at here. Patron can choose to sit inside with air conditioning or alfresco for light and easy dining. K-pop music was playing in the background to enlighten the patron's dining experience. The service is good here with highly attentive servers to fulfill every patron's requests.
Ban Chan

Ban Chan

Ban Chan was served to begin my gastronomic journey here. It was 5 different small dishes namely kimchi, egg roll, spinach with sesame oil, and caramelized anchovies that served along with cooked rice in Korean cuisine. Ban Chan is usually served in small portion and meant to be finished at each meal. It is replenished during the meal if not enough. I personally enjoyed the spicy kimchi and crispy anchovies very much. The spiciness easily excited my palate for more scrumptious food. Kelp soup that served hot was provided as well.

I had the Beef Bulgogi to go with my rice that costs 18.90 Ringgit Malaysia in dinner time while 15.90 Ringgit Malaysia in lunch time. Chef marinated the beef with pear sauce that taste sweet before it was cooked on a hot plate. It was garnished with chili, capsicum, enoki mushroom, and veggies to layer the wholesome taste and add color for its presentation. Small fire was lit at the bottom of hot plate to keep the dish warm throughout my meal here.

Food here is reasonable priced with authentic Korean taste. I shall definitely come back here to indulge more good Korean food!

Hui Lau Shan @ The Mines Smile Aug 30, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Stall / Warung | Desserts

Hui Lau Shan is a famous and largest dessert chain originated from Hong Kong. The first shop was opened at Yuen Long Hong Kong in the sixties, sold only Herb Jelly and a variety of traditional herbal teas.

Hui Lau Shan ventured into Malaysia market not long ago with first branch opened at One Utama Shopping Mall. The brand spread out like storm with more outlets at Berjaya Times Square, The Mines, Pavilion and Gurney Plaza.

Their all-time signature classic is mango dessert that presented in various ways like beverage and jelly. According to the operator, Hui Lau Shan uses high quality mango that flew from Thailand and Philippines for its fragrance and taste.
Fresh Mango Mochi

Fresh Mango Mochi

My super favorite is the Fresh Mango Mochi that costs 4.90 Ringgit Malaysia for 3 pieces. It may looks ordinary outside coated with coconut floss but the filling inside really surprised me! Hui Lau Shan uses real juicy mango fruit instead of mango puree as the filling, therefore high satisfaction is guaranteed here for its wonderful texture and sweetness of the aroma.
Signature Curry Combo

Signature Curry Combo

To my surprise, Hui Lau Shan non-mango series dessert also tasted not bad. I tried the Signature Curry Combo that costs 7.90 Ringgit Malaysia per bowl. I know that most Malaysian have high spicy tolerance, but Hui Lau Shan is a dessert cafe not curry house, so I did not expect it will be strong spicy with heavy taste. However, the mild curry was fragrance and not too oily with ingredients like cuttlefish, fish ball, tofu pok and white radish. Very seldom I have white radish in curry but this was nice as it easily absorbed the curry gravy and blend in well with white radish own natural sweetness.

I like Hui Lau Shan's concept to promote healthy fruit dessert culture instead of using those artificial coloring and flavor essences. Shall definitely come back here to indulge more!
