Goku Raku Ramen  Smile Mar 27, 2014
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Seafood | Noodles

By now, most would have noticed that there has been massive influxes of ramen outlets, each serving its own specialties and uniqueness. Tokyo Street at Pavillion KL, being the most prominent one-stop centre showcasing all sorts of Japanese products, including varieties of Ramen restaurants too. If you are seriously looking for a good bowl of authentic ramen in wholesome tonkotsu broth, Goku Raku Ramen is bound to live up to your expectation.
This ramen oasis is conveniently located at Level 2, Mid Valley Megamall, with its orangey circular bold sign. It raises the bar when it comes to ramen-dining experience as the eminent ramen connoisseur, Mr. Teruhisa Shimizu, firstly introduces his unique "Horikiri Style" ramen with broth that boats a very exquisite taste over a long simmering hours.
If you are looking for a good bowl of delish ramen, this is the place to go. Compared to the many ones available at Tokyo Street, this prooves to be a great competitor in terms of the flavorful broth and homemade ramen. Coupled with anothe recommended items, its Char Siew, is far more than juicy. Tenderness and melting Kakuni is one fare you should try it out.

Upon entering the restaurant, we were amiably greeted with Irashaimase and surrounded by the warm ambience that includes some ornaments of red paper lanterns decorating almost every nook of the place, with wooden interior design as their main theme. The environment somehow does resemble the atmosphere of the Zen style, especially when you are passing by the artificial cherry blossoms flowers along the pebbly pathway.

Our palate was firstly treated to warm ocha while waiting for the dishes to come. The floral design on the black ceramic tea pot was quite dainty and nice. The hot green tea is refillable by the way.
Mix Tempura Don & Wakatori Karagae
Here you go, the set of Mix Tempura Don & Wakatori Karagae that comes with the standard accompaniment like Miso Soup, Chawanmushi, Agedashi Tofu and Salad. The miso soup was pretty normal, together with refreshing wafu-dressed salad, tofu is silken enough and the same goes to the velvet chawahmushi where its hidden treasure; gingko nut, was most enjoyed amusingly by my foodie friend, who is also a Japanese cuisine enthusiast : )

Signature Tokyo Kitchen Special Roll

Though that another side dish would complement our light dinner heartily, Signature Tokyo Kitchen Special Roll would be the choice. The sushi roll came with Fried Tiger Prawn, Unagi, Mango before topping off with smidgen of ebiko over their unique peanut sauce. The idea of blending in the citrusy of the mango with the rice roll is quite interesting indeed, but somehow, was not that impactful flavor wise. Other than that, the taste was still pretty lovesome.

Green Tea Tofu Cake
To complete the night on a sweet note, a delicate piece of Green Tea Tofu Cake would be ideal. It comes with some corn flakes on the side of the pastry together with light cream garnished with mint leaves. If looked at it carefully, it was actually comprises of four layers of different texture. The base being tad grit but still good are made of crushed Mc Vities biscuits, before stacked with layers of cream cheese, tofu mixed cream before sealing with a layer of subtle green tea based cream. It is quite tasty, smooth with aroma of green tea aftertaste. However, the taste of tofu or so called bean curd was not that apparent in this case which i think would be much better if it was to be humbly emphasized.. I guess it is suitable for anyone as the cake is not overly cheesy and thus, might appeal to any cake foodies generically.

Donuts indulgence @ J.Co & Donuts Smile Mar 20, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Indonesian | Café | Desserts | Coffee | Private Party

Gone are the days where enjoying doughnuts were quite a mundane tea time. But it’s no longer the case here as you could expect more whimsy ideas that come with this seemingly ubiquitous bakery at J.Co Donuts & Coffee, Pavillion KL.

One of the many highlights here would be the Caffe Avocado, which would be launched very soon on this coming 24th March 2014. It pampers your palate with a hint of refreshing green, amidst the slightly sweet and smooth finish. It is subtle yet complex but at the same time, plays well with other ingredients such as dark chocolate and cappuccino in this case.

What’s the best companion for this luscious blended beverage other than the fruit itself? And we have the Avocado Dicaprio- adequately coated avocado cream donuts, with some sprinkles of dark chocolate on the ring.

Or still a coffee person? Then Mocha Espresso Frappe would do the trick!

For the suggested complementary candidate for this cuppa, it is perfect to go along with Forest Glam, a.k.a Black Forest donut!

J. Club Cheezy Rich, would liven up any cheese aficionados especially, with me being one of them! : )

If these might appear bit sinful to the small eaters, then perhaps getting some mini bites would be the better deal? Consider the J. Pops Baby Donuts which is available in 24 pieces at just a retail price of MYR 18 per box. You could mix and match them from 12 varieties adorably.

Not forgetting their superbly vivacious J. Cool Yogurt! . It has the similar pleasing velvety texture that comes with the unmistakably citrusy sourness that is very light to your palate. When tops up with some peach dices, it makes a very appealing combination that you would be craving scoops after scoops.

Finally, i get to taste the Latte from this coffee house.

After some 10 mins of waiting, we get our coffee fix; Latte! Served hot and smooth. Decently aromatic and milky though take without any sugar.

As for the Baileys and Chocolate Mousse, it is moist and creamy with fluffy chocolate layer in between. But the Baileys is actually not that apparent, which is the only setback for this dessert. Or perhaps i was expecting too much for it? lol

Tantalising fare at Blu Med Smile Mar 19, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Italian | European | Restaurant | Pizza/Pasta

Blu Med presents the ideal venue for both casual diners and guest of formal occasion. Diners are welcomed into a cozy yet chic interior, graciously decorated with floor-to-ceiling high transparent glasses, accentuated by the vertical garden and accompanied by the unique chandeliers that are made of glass bottles. This environmental friendly design is indeed unique and majestically portrayed.
This grandeur-svetting ristorante is conveniently located at Boulevard, Mid Valley, which specializes in Mediterranean cuisines apart from drawing culinary influence from various regions throughout the world. This is all made possible as the kitchen is being spearheaded by Chef Tatsuya Ikeuchi (Executive Chef), whose métier is in French and Italian fusion, co-assisted by Chef Kazutoshi Nakasone (Chef de Cuisine).
The gastronomical night kicks off with some thoughtfully concocted BluMed Cocktails; Strawberry Caipiroska and Caipirinha, with the former garners the majority vote, though I personally prefer the zestier latter.
Some of the inventive menu includes the Steamed Vegetable that comes with indulging goat cheese, savoury Eggplant Siciliana, battered Soft Shell Crab and Broccoli Tempura, tantalising Squid Ink Spaghetti, the must-have honeyed Quattro Formaggi Pizza, Executive Combo Set which showcases fried battered Dory fish, turmeric-marinated chicken skewers and crispy chicken strips.Of course, you may also enjoy other delish dish from their wide array of fusion, namely Watermelon with Feta Cheese, Teriyaki Chicken and Salad Pizza, Linguine Tomato Cream ‘Bisque’ Sauce and many more.
As for dessert, you can choose from Caramel Apple Honey Toast with Ice Cream or Chocolate Banana Honey Toast with Ice Cream, for the sweeter tooth of you smile
