Great Dim Sum Lunch Smile Mar 25, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Steaks / Chops | Dim sum | Porridge

Dim sum lunch is always one of the top choice among family get-together! Personally I love dimsum, HK style dimsum especially and today, we have visited Grand Imeperial in their Bangsar Shopping Centre.

I've tried their Hartamas branch before and the food was quite good. I got to know that this Grand Imperial in Bangsar Shopping Centre might be even better, as this is where their base is.

Sunday is always crowded in dimsum place. However the floor size of the restaurant is quite big, so at 12pm, where the coalesced sights and sounds of the eating crowd suggested that the restaurant is packed, we can still get a seat easily.

Being very HK-cantonese taste bud one of the food i couldn't resist in any dimsum/breakfast is porridge. We ordered 2: one with lean-meat & century egg and another one giblet porride.

The porridge was good. I think the main ingredient of their porridge base is pork ribs. However both porridge, despite very porky, taste different. The one with lean meat and century egg has a richer taste while the one with pork offal tastes light & fresh with a dash of ginger. Well that is purely for the taste and flavour of porridge, we all don't eat the offal.

I always prefer steamed food. Cheong fun is another must order in my dimsum list. This is char siew cheong fun. Quite smooth texture and quite thin. They also have option in prawn and scallops.

Char Siew bun or roasted pork bun. Kind of sweet the roast pork but not bad too. The bun is soft and best served when it is steaming hot! Simply yummy!

Not forgetting dumpling or siew mai, mixed of pork and prawn in this case. Juicy!

Another of my favourite in dim sum - steamed Pork rib.

Last but not least, we ordered our favorite fried glutinous rice. This fried glutinous rice is surprisingly very good! I love this dish a lot & it is traditionally served in Hong Kong during the cooler days to warm the gaster. The glutinous rice should be fried from raw till cooked in the wok, not steamed. Therefore, a good quality of this dish, after cooked, the rice should still be individually distinctive apart & not sticks together.

Surprisingly, this one is very good! A must to try and the surprise of all.

we also ordered other traditional dim sum such as Steamed Chicken Feet, Beancurd roll with Prawn, fried carrot cake and a baked egg tart as dessert, which are not in the pictures.

Overall am very satisfied with the quality of food. All yummy. Service is ok, meeting minimum standard. You won't be neglected neither they will serve you with full attention. It was a very busy Sunday noon after all

Total 5 pax, we spent slightly less than RM150 inclusive of tax and charges. With the quality of food i reckon it very reasonable smile

Sunday afternoon, wonder where to get a quiet place to sit down & relax? Have been hearing about this cafe in Shaw Parade Pudu - Typica, for a while but didn't really get a chance to try out till last week.

It is indeed a nice place to meet up friends for a cup of flavour-infused coffee. Be it cold, hot or coffee desserts.

The interior is indeed, relaxing, and you can find all interesting flavour of coffee. More like a coffee bar than a normal coffee place. The coffee specialist will mix your drink in such a way that the entire process of making, worth more than the charges of the glass of coffee itself! Tips, sit at the bar area, then you may interact with the coffee specialist behind whom makes your drink!

I opted for a more authentic/normal flavour - coffee with milk and honey, with a dash of rose and served chilled.

the coffee aroma is not very strong, but pleasant. Personal preference still illy espresso! haha but this is nice as a casual coffee drink

and good coffee is best with a slice of cake. We ordered nutty cheese cake

a nice one, especially the nuts on top! the cake, blends well with the coffee!

a nice place to meet up with friends. Not very crowded especially weekends, not a bad choice than going to any Bukit Bintang cafes which are always packed with crowd during weekends!

I actually come to know about this restaurant from another Japanese restaurant in Bkt Bintang that has closed down a while ago. Missing the flavour & taste i have been searching where the crew went after the closure and eventually, got to know that the same crew has set up Hanare, in The Intermark!

Initially when they first opened, the menu was very simple, just some omekase set, sashimi and sushi. Fresh & good quality, yes but insufficient choices.

But of course, they kept improving and the latest visit last week, i must say, was really a satisfying one!

we ordered sashimi or course, moriawase and let the chef decides whats the best for us!

It was delicious, fresh and chunky! the prawn especially, was extra good!

And of course, there is this little fish, honestly i cant name it but it is nice. One thing about Hanare, it not just offer good quality fresh sashimi but you can always expect something special, something you dont normally get in a ordinary japanese restaurant out there! (eg this fish) So be brave! try them! So far they never let me down!

On top of sashimi we also ordered sushi set. Brilliant taste!
Inaniwa Udon

Another dish that is of my favourite - Inaniwa Udon! serve cold. Again you dont get Inaniwa Udon everywhere! The noodle still ramains al dante after cooking, with sprinkle of sesame on top, go with japanese soy sauce dip. Nice!

We ordered a Tendon as well, which, unfortunately was eaten before i realised picture not take tongue

overall food quality was very good. One of the best in town for sure! Just a bit pricey, but for this quality of food, i think it's more or less fair.

old styled kopitiam Smile Mar 07, 2012

located in the heart of the city, opposite the bar council where a lot of ppl (myself included) been passing by day to day, here is the old style kopitiam Restoran Sin Seng Nam that serves authentic and traditional toast with kaya butter, kopi and half-boiled eggs!

The building itself, is already more than 100 years old. High ceiling, clean and neat, this shop apparently been existed since long. In fact, it is now being operated by the 3rd generation of the family!

I heard about it from a friend of mine whom was on assignment of photographing old buildings in KL. After learning about the history behind, here I am, coming to try on their most famous breakfast toast set - with Kaya butter and Kopi.

food came fast, ideal for those rushing to work! and... oh mine! it looks great! and it tastes great! I must say that the quality of the toast, is definitely not one of those normal chained kopitiam can compare! And what's more? A set of toast plus hot kopi, only for RM2.80!

The kopi is rather sweet to me though, if you're like me whom prefer the original bold taste of the coffee, try to ask for less sugar.

i was told that the half-boiled eggs are good too. Too bad I didnt have enough of time and stomach space to try this round!

They also serve good Hainanese Chicken Rice for lunch and I heard it is selling fast! I was there about 10am, rice not ready yet but they are already preparing. The aroma of the chilli sauce that goes along with the rice, confirmed the tastiness of the lunch!

The Truth, is within Voir Dire Smile Mar 06, 2012

Was going to Giant Kota Damansara for shopping and after that thought of having dinner & drink with friend around The Strand.

Just when we were wondering which pub to go, we were attracted by the name of this - Voir Dire - (in fact still having some problem pronouncing it). This place is new, has a nice classy frontage, and hence we decided to give it a try

The menu is simple, but they have this main course that immediately caught my eyes: Pork Chop!! and without much hesitation i've decided to order it. My friend, instead, was ordering a Grilled chicken pasta.

Soon the food arrived. The pork chop was good! Unlike elsewhere which they normally ask you to choose your sauce upon ordering, this pork chop comes with 2 types of sauces, served together - Mushroom and black pepper sauces in 2 separate small glass containers. It was a very juicy, tender and quite a thick cut piece of meat.

Same goes to the pasta, it was good, full of garlic aroma with chicken grilled to perfection.

As for drinks, my friend ordered a Paulaner beer while i took the recommendation from the boss - cranberry vodka, and it was nice!

They also have live band from time to time and open mic session for you to sing. If you're lucky (like us), you may even have a chance to listen to the boss singing himself!

Overall a nice pub to go, a good place to catch up with friends or even a meal! Will definitely revisit.
