One of the few authentic and good Western restaurants in JB, Food Republique offers Tex-Mex style food. They have an upcoming new menu but for now, you can always ask the chef to let you know about their "secret menu". It is located near Leisure Mall. A suitable place for families and couples to dine. Inside, the interior is simple but homely. The owner loves movies so you'll see a lot of posters on the walls. One of the specialty is their burgers, a must try! Very huge portion and is so well grilled. For those who don't take beef, make sure you ask if the patty can be swapped to chicken. Another awesome food was the brownie with ice cream! Crunchy on the outside and as you work your way towards the middle, it becomes softer. Paired with cold vanilla ice cream, heaven. One of the special sauces created by the boss is the Tex-Mex sauce which tastes different when paired with different meats. Very unique! The restaurant may be tiny, but the deco inside is so classy and comfortable that you'll feel right at home. You may also rent the place for free to host events, and they will cater food for you. The ala carte menu price ranges RM5 above. Chicken chop (RM6) & fish and chips (RM7) are not the best, but grilled chicken (RM7) and roasted chicken (RM7) was super yummy and tender! Kampung fried rice (RM5) is quite spicy because of the chili padi. I had the lamb chop which was RM15 and it was a huge portion! Lamb was quite tender and flavorful. Plain water is free, teh O and coffee is RM2 each. No tax charged. The owners are Malay and their daughter speaks Mandarin. Very friendly people who provide good service and constantly asks you if the food is up to your standard. For a neighbourhood restaurant, I would say their food and service are beyond satisfactory. On this beautiful Saturday morning, we visited Toast Box to have our food tasting and breakfast. This is the largest branch of Toastbox in Southeast Asia as they are the first to accomodate two corner shoplots. The large French windows illuminates the place with natural sunlight and totally captures the feel of modern rustic decorations. All coffee here are roasted and blended with traditional Nanyang coffee beans to give it a fragrance and aroma beyond compare. The food uses the same recipe as in Singapore but is altered a little to cater to local tastebuds. The best seller, Butter & Kaya toast has a crunchy bread and just the right filling of smooth butter and sweet kaya. The best. For more filling options, you can opt for the curry laksa which is also a famous dish here and the mee siam, served Nyonya-style whereby it is drenched in tangy gravy. For those living around Desa Tebrau area, there are unfortunately no high-end Western restaurants nearby that serve good and affordable food. Luckily, Flames' Kitchen just opened recently in JP Perdana, same row as the famed Just Want Coffee The Garden, for families to enjoy a nice night out with beer and good food. There are ample parking space at the back and it is easy to locate, just near the JP Perdana guardhouse. The owner insists on cooking all the food with charcoal, hence the longer waiting time. But it is so worth it as I went there twice already and I find the food very much to my liking. Food is also served in big portion. The Paprika Chicken comes with a side dish and we ordered one with mac & cheese, even the side dish is as big as the main! I personally loved the fruit salad, with sweet dried cranberries and sweet dressing! We also ordered a plate of Bacon & Mushroom pasta, which was very enjoyable. Please note that the place is Non-Halal as they do serve pork and alcohol. Recommended Dish(es):

If you have not tried Egyptian or Arabian food, well, you should. The taste of their food marinated with various spices, is uncomparable. We found this place through Johorkaki's blog and found that it was not hard to find at all, if you're familiar with Taman Desa Rahmat. The restaurant used to be RHB Bank. From the outside it looks like a normal mamak but once you step in, you'll be shocked at how cozy and homely it is as it is carpeted from floor to ceiling. We opted for a private room, and there is outdoor dining option as well. Most of the seats are on the floor with cushions provided, but outdoor dining has tables and chairs. The chefs are from Egypt and the owner is really friendly and provides good service as well. Food was not as pricey as we expected, and for that price, everything was yummy! From the rice to the soup to the grilled seafood. Yums. I highly recommend the rice with grilled chicken or lamb as the meat is so tender and fragrant when paired with long rice. The soup they served it with looks like vege soup but tastes like lamb meat. Also, the grilled seafood platter is quite worth it as it comes with hummus, flat bread, fish, prawn and crab! Pair everything with Arabian tea with mint leaves for a refreshing twist for your tastebuds. Tea is refillable. Recommended Dish(es):
