Korean BBQ buffet 2: Ssikkek  Smile Sep 21, 2015

Categories : Korean | Restaurant | Buffet | BBQ

It's been more an 3 years since I last blog about the same restaurant. I blog about the restaurant when it just opening , and perhaps because that I have the first one to blog, my this post has one of the highest in google search ranking. So I decided to re-visit the restaurant again, for another round of review. It's too worthy, who knows I might review it again.

It is a Korean BBQ buffet, with the tagline, EAT ALL YOU CAN!

Back to 2012, Ssikkek is among the most early restaurant that started with this KOrean BBQ buffet concept. While I was looking for this shop in kepong area, there were several other Korean BBQ buffet that use the same concept as well!

However, after 3 years, Ssikkek only become more and more popular. I even saw this restaurant was one of top 10 must eat in Kepong.

I actually not sure is there is a way to eat. We basically must put everything we want to eat on the grilled pan.

As most the meat as been seasoned, so you no need to worry about tasteless. In fact, it might be heavy in taste also.

Trust me, this is one of the economic cheap buffet in KL area. My plate, I have been refill things like this several times, until I was full. Like you don't want to eat anymore.

My favourite Kimchi soup. Taste like Tom yum, but taste like Kimchi too~~ but less spicy. which is good if you want to drink a lot of it.

Lunch Buffet

Adult Rm 19.90

Kid Rm 14.90

Dinner Buffet

Adult Rm 39.90

Kid Rm 34.90

only in dinner:

Pork Belly

Pork Shoulder

Seafood

Ice-cream

Brocolli!

No GST and Service Charge.

There is also rice prepared, if you want grab some carbohydrate. But so far I was the only one who took the rice. I wanna eat with kimchi soup, =D

Grilled X Bonding I sweat awhile after several round of grilling also .

Awesome Canteen Smile Jun 22, 2015

Categories : Western variety | Café | Pizza/Pasta | Burgers / Sandwiches

Yesterday marked the first day I landed in Kuala Lumpur, Seapark to be precise, going to start my intern on 1st June! Thank you my bf, Wei Sheng bring me to eat food of my choice, so I chose to eat here. Awesome Canteen in Taman Paramount, Seapark here.

I not sure is it me, or every girl out there. For a sweet-tooth like me, it's very hard for me to resist those delicious looking cake!

The bright light inside cafe form a strong contrast with the daylight outside. Which kindda make it instagram-worthy.

Mushroom Swiss Cheese Melt Chicken Rm 17.90

(Opt for beef then it would be Rm 19.90)

Initially, I was thinking of having carbonara. But they only have seafood carbonara, then boyfriend chose this for me. He knows that I like cheese and mushroom.

Trying to show the combo within, I believe their patty in home-made one , cause it's quite soft and tender. The condiment inside become watery after awhile, However, it is the last scoop I like it the best, various mushroom topped with the sauce and cheese, YUMMY!

Ordered this Banana-Broccoli smoothies. Photo taken by bf. Very messy, but the lighting is so good!

Strawberry- Lemon Butter Cake Rm 12.90

Banana-Brocolli Smoothie Rm 8.90

Girls and dessert are always inseparable, both these were my favourite choice. The buttercake is quite nice, but a bit pricey to my expectation. Nevertheless, having lemon in the cake just make the cake more pleasantly delighting!

I don't used to drink Smoothie, cause for me they were colder than cold juice. But I am quite tempt by looking at the name: Banana-Brocolli. It make you a bit full, taste more like banana than broccoli.

Part of the efford to imitate the school canteen ambience. Awesome experienced by This pair love bird, hehehe.

Why that I picked this cafe? The cafe name itself and the ambience that it radiate, like relax and instagram-worthy~~~

Awesome Canteen:

19, Jalan 20/13, Taman Paramount, 46300 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Contact Number: 03-7865 8048

Operation Hour:

It was a Monday night , and thanks to Open Rice for the food review invitation. I absolutely enjoy it so much. All the makan (eating) talking and sharing between open ricer was a joyful open! Also thanks to Managing Director of Shunka group, Edisson Eing for his friendly sharing on the food!

Grilled Pork Belly Rm 7.30

One of the very dishes that I like! Love it more when sprinkle with fresh lemon extract.

The lemon itself is so crispy, it's definitely fried, but you neither feel or see oil on the plate, do you?

Kimchi Steamboat Rm 17.90

Soup Refill once only. Rm 3 for every subsequent refill.

They do serve Kimchi Steamboat with variety of anything!!

You can choose the spiciness of the kimchi soup also. Either original, mild, hot or spicy.I tried the mild on, it's consider spicy for me. But the original one is not spicy at all. So I prefer the fusion of original and mild.

Kimchi and seafood lover should seriously considering on ordering this!

Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen Rm 19.90

The shoyu soup is quite salty when taste alone. However, as you eat together with the springy Ramen, it taste better.

Spicy Pork Bulgogi Rm 17.90

Just the presentation itself already appeal to me. I didnt try so much of this, as I was so full when this was serve. Serving with generous amount of mix vege and well marinated pork slice not only making the dishes colourful, but drooling the foodies around.

To poke the onsen tamago (hal boiled egg) is a hard time for me. and we mix everything together for the mouthful of spicy porl bulgogi!

Garlic Fried Rice Rm 10.50

Garlic Fried Rice fried using Japanese rice (all the fried rice were using Japanses rice) together with aromatic garlic, minced pork, scramble egg that make up a comfortable food rich in carbohdrate.

Crispy Sushi Rm 13.90

Crispy outer layer, carbo and heary inner layer, to be finish in a mouthful. It's tiny little finger food that is suitable for high tea or snack.

Japanese Cheese Omelet Rm 10.50

I am a cheese lover, and honestly I cant taste much of cheese here, but more to mayonaise and egg. But as you see, it is prepare on demand, you could request for more cheese if you like. As some might not love too much of cheese in Omelet.

Japanese Dumpling Rm 10.50DId you notice something in this picture?

It ALL ABOUT GREEN MATCHA!!

Shunka is so generouls , they served so much of Magic Matcha. Edisson Eing, and his partner, YC LIm insist us that we should drink it quickly as soon as it served, before the matcha ice-cream melt. But we , the open ricer, keep taking photo, finding the best angle to show the prefectness of the matcha. Hence he ordered another round of Matcha for us, to make sure we indulge the famous matcha from Shunka.

Iced Matcha with Red Bean Rm 16.90

Dessert, DeSSert DESEERT!! My favourite time!! Meet my most favourite dish of the day. It was not main course but Ice Matcha with Red Bean!!

The blogger with her favourite matcha and red beans

Can you see the Matcha and red bean is served in a few different layer? Vanilla at the bottom, then sweet red bean, prepared in Japanese way, it is baked before hand, layered in the middle.(definitely taste the different between red beans here and small red beans in ice kacang), and matcha ice-cream on top of it!

Click here to see how the food porn-ness.

Okay, it taste better to but all the 3 layers in one spoon. (watch the video in the link above). SO It taste first like sweet (vanilla, and red beans) and bitter (matcha), as you continue to chew, everything is mix and match of sweet and bitter. My mouth was like enjoying it so much!

Magic Matcha Rm 16.90

Think of SHunka when you think of Matcha. They serve really wonderful matcha here! This Magic Matcha is their signature, comprising of matcha ice-cream, matcha cube, and matcha drink mix with milk. This is why Matcha lover would love this!

Hot Matcha Rm 7.30

Order a cup of hot macha if you prefer to taste the authentic matcha taste. As the cold one would be sweeter.

The moment these 2 ladies so serious about taking good photos! I cant help to show it here.

Once again, thanks to open rice for the invitation, enjoy talking and listening among us!

so,at this humble food stall, selling a quite tender and authentic wantan mee, despite it is actually prepared by the foreigner. The boss is a Chinese.

First they serve us the wantan in soup.

Their minced pork fillings is slightly bigger than the usual. Or maybe it is just Kampar that serve small wantan?

Flying wantan mee cost at
Small- RM 6.00
Medium- RM 6.50
Large-Rm 7.00

After awhile, our main focus arrived. First, visual wise, not bad.

SUrprisingly it taste really good. The charcoal-burnt char siew is tender, oily and succulent. And it is the oily couple the meat and the charcoal make the char siew so luscious.

The noodle is springy accompanied with a taste of 猪油lard, delightful flavourful. and Immediately tickle your taste bud.
expensive for this little portion

expensive for this little portion

the smooth boiled chicken is delicious after the added of their secret soy sauce though. However, small portion like this cost Rm 4.50
the tossing gimmick

the tossing gimmick

The tossing act. However, frankly it doesnt matter whether it is tossing or not. In fact the act tossing at the roadside irritate me in a bit. I really want to ask the boss the reason of tossing. Is it making it more springy? Because, my food buddy thought the noodle is self-made one, it is a little different. NOt sure, is it because of the tossing act. Well, for me, I don't taste any difference.

After the hawkers blanched and tossed the noodle, the noodle was mix with this 3 sauce. Shallot oil, Lard , and secret soy sauce, which is thicker and sweet.

How they prepare for it.
People must have put here for some reason.

People must have put here for some reason.

I saw pickle chillies on every table, however, me and my food buddy do not used to seasoning food with pickle chillies or chillies. If there is anything I would like to complain, then it would be the environment. We are literally eating in the middle of road where car passing around, dust flying.  I guess their business would be better when they move into a shop, with a more hygience environment.

Cute little dog I dont know the species name, but his eyes is literally puppy's eyes! Own by the store owner. and the store actually run by a family.

THe first dishes that serve on our table. The gao zha gui is actually a bit sweet  i dun like it. But the soup is flavourful!!

The store just located in seapark, next to the famous nasi lemak bumbung.

Lettuce is osyter sauce (Rm 8), top on with some fried garlic. YUm yum!! One of the best I had!! Nor it's too oily, a bit watery, but just nice!

the freaking Rm 30 Bak Kut Teh

unlike the usual Bak Kut Teh that has button mushroom, this one replaced with Shiitake mushroom. We 2 eater chose the one without internal organ, stomach or anything, just the pork meat. It come with variety of meat from different part. Like 花肉, or  just 肉, then肥又肉。

The bak kut teh soup is a bit salty to taste.

Otherwise, it would be a pleasant experience to eat here!
