Chee Cheong Fun Smile Sep 01, 2013   (Related Review)

I ordered the Chee Cheong Fun first, as it has been quite some time since I've tried some Penang styled Chee Cheong Fun. The dish arrived shortly and it looked very appetizing. This dish is garnished with a generous amount of sesame and fried shallots. The chee cheong fun is very smooth and soft which is very delicious. But the most important part of this dish is the gravy. Penang styled Chee Cheong Fun utilizes prawn paste as their base sauce and this is no exception. I like the taste and the strong aroma from the prawn paste which makes the dish very delicious.

This dish only costs RM2.00, very value for money.

Penang Road Chendul Smile Aug 30, 2013

I was taking a bus to tour around George Town when a friendly Penangnite talked to me. He recommended me to stop by this place to try Penang's (And some say Malaysia's) best Cendol.

As a enthusiastic foodie, I would never let such an opportunity pass by, so I duly obliged and came off the bus to give this a try.

The crowd surrounding this humble 2 wheeled stall was quite a lot regardless that there was no space to sit and enjoy this dessert.

I went in to the coffeeshop and ordered the cendol from there and found that the price is 50c more expensive possibly for commission for the coffeeshop. If eaten outside standing the cendol costs RM2.10, but inside the coffeeshop it is RM2.60.

The cendol is awesome beyond words can describe. It is refreshing with the sweetness just right. It has a nice aromatic flavour from this cendol which most likely due to the Gula Melaka used. The cendol here is definitely the best that I have tried so far, and it is no coincidence that this stall has been a crowd puller for ages.

Full House of Pork Smile Aug 30, 2013   (Related Review)

Apparently, my friend told me that Spades is actually a dim sum shop during the day, and a burger shop during the night. Thus, the lack of renovation which is in its way a good thing as it keeps the prices down.

He ordered the Full House of Pork, which from the name is obviously a pork based burger. Upon ordering the burger, we were given a number card each, which is for them to track where the orders would be served to. The number cards were made to resemble playing cards which I thought was creative and functional at the same time.

The Full House of Pork is also very big in size. It contains 2 layers of melted cheese, double bacon strips and double pork patty. The pork patty is very thick and has a strong porky taste. It goes very well with the bacon and their special sauce, which tastes a little like mustard.
The pork patty is very smooth and very flavourful.

For Rm15.90 it is very worth it, and would definitely come back to try other burgers they have.

King of Spades Smile Aug 30, 2013

A colleague informed me of this burger restaurant which is he claims is cheaper and better than MyBurgerLab in PJ. I was surprised to hear that and so I invited a friend to try this place with me.

From the outside, there was no billboard anywhere so we thought we got the wrong place. After looking in only we found that it was the right place. There was no renovation at all in the restaurant, so it can easily be mistaken for a coffeeshop of some sort.

There was a menu stuck on the side wall, so we weighed our options and made the order.

I ordered the most expensive burger they have on the menu which is the King of Spades. It costs RM17.90 nett. They do not make any of their own drinks, so all their drinks are canned drinks which costs RM2 (A choice between 100 Plus, Pepsi & Ice Lemon Tea).

The burgers took quite some time to make, but I could clearly see the efforts used to make each and every burger. After around 15-20 minutes or so, my burger finally arrived.

I was very surprised the see the size of the burger which is very enormous. It has 2 patties, 3 layers of melted cheese and 2 bacon strips along with lots of caramelized onion and a piece of lettuce.

The patties were very well made as I could taste the strong beefy flavour and aroma, and coupled with their charcoal burger, caramelized onions and cheese it was very delicious. The burger was so thick, that it is impossible to eat it with just a bite, so I had to eat it with fork and knife.

For RM17.90, this is indeed a bargain. I hope the price stays that way, as I am very happy with this new burger establishment in Penang.

Fried Oyster Smile Sep 01, 2013   (Related Review)

Another Penang's famous dish is the fried oyster which somehow has never failed me before in many different restaurants in Penang. Lucky for me, this is another fried oyster in Penang which is delicious.

The fried oyster here is very juicy and although not as plentiful as some other stalls, the cheaper price makes up for it. I like the fact that the oysters here are really big and juicy. The egg and starch combination is also very delicious. This particular stall utilizes more eggs than starch, which is commendable and definitely much more tastier.

For RM10, it is value for money given the size of the oysters.
