Siew Yuk Dry Noodles OK Sep 16, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Steaks / Chops | Noodles

I was at Empire Shopping Gallery with parents, bringing mum to buy some groceries. Since it was lunch time, we decided to head over to Four Seasons Restaurant to have some food. There were quite a bit of people in it, so we had to wait a while for a table. Once seated, I ordered the siew yuk dry noodles. The noodles were the type that you get when you order wan tan mee. The noodles were springy and well tossed with dark sauce and soya sauce. The siew yuk was juicy, but I thought the skin should be crispier. They gave a bowl of soup, but I didn't really like it as it had the smelly taste of pork, and was full of MSG.

To complement our chicken hor fun, we ordered a kaya and butter toast double. The food came fairly quickly, considering we put the order later, and there were quite a number of patrons. The bread is nicely toasted, brown and crispy. I think Old Town White Coffee branches nationwide is unanimously skimping on the ingredients of kaya and butter. I thought that the amount wasn't enough. Nevertheless, it filled our stomach until until movie-popcorn-gobbling time.

Ipoh Chicken Hor Fun OK Sep 11, 2013

Not knowing what to eat for lunch, wifey and I decided to have a quick snack before our movie. We can then gorge on popcorn later. We went to Old Town White Coffee and ordered a Ipoh Chicken Hor Fun. The portion wasn't very big. The hor fun was quite nice, silky smooth and slid down the throat easily. There were some chicken slices in it, as well as two small pieces of prawns. There were virtually no beansprouts at all. The soup was full of MSG, but that is quite expected. Overall a decent meal, but not counted among my favourites.

Takoyaki OK Sep 11, 2013   (Related Review)

I was having a craving for some takoyaki. Since I couldn't go all the way to One Utama to get my favourite Tako Tao, I settled for takoyaki from Sakae Sushi. I ordered, and it took quite a while to come. My initial thought was that it looked more like potato balls than takoyaki. Compared to Tako Tao, the takoyaki here is quite below par. The balls was literally a round piece of flour, not much ingredients except for a tiny bit of chopped cabbage and a small piece of baby squid. It was served with some teriyaki sauce, mayonnaise drizzle and fish flakes. Taste wise, just so-so.

Pandan Chicken OK Sep 05, 2013   (Related Review)

Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Seafood

Pandan chicken is my usual staple in a Thai restaurant. I like to try different kinds of restaurants' pandan chicken as sometimes the spices they use vary, hence making it like I was consuming this dish the first time. The pandan chicken in Sawasde Thai Restaurant was a bit drier that I would have liked. The chicken was cooked all the way through, though I thought it was too overcooked. Every piece was also quite small. Priced at RM18 for 6 pieces, it was a decent price to pay.
