Braised Pork Trotter Cry May 07, 2013   (Related Review)

As I saw another table ordering this dish, I promptly ordered this dish, but only a small one as my other 2 friends are not too keen on it.

This dish of braised pork trotter comes with a hard boiled egg. My first bite confirmed my suspicions that the trotters were not cooked enough. Although the fatty parts melts in the mouth, I find that the meat closer to the joints were not cooked wel, thus making it quite tough certain parts of the meat. The gravy however, were flavourful and salted well.
The egg was also alright, but I would prefer to have the egg cooked in the gravy longer to absorb more flavour.

Unfortunately, this dish looks better than it tastes.

Mum wanted to have coconut juice, so we ordered one for her. However, it was quite disappointing. The coconut was very old, and the flesh was super thick and hard. The only consolation is that the juice was sweet. The price of RM7 per coconut was also amazingly expensive. The Coca-Cola was priced at RM3 per can, which was also quite expensive I think. Bottom line, Chinese tea would probably be a better option.

Wan Tan Mee Cry Apr 08, 2013   (Related Review)

The wan tan mee in sun huat kee is quite bland. I did not like the taste at all, as it does not have a nice flavour to it. The noodles were not springy, but flat. It was also not mixed in the right type of gravy you would expect from a wan tan mee, and the char siew was also not nice. Fortunately, the wan tan was the redeeming factor of this dish, as it was filled quite generously.

Choy Mai Cry Mar 31, 2013   (Related Review)

The choy mai (siew mai with vegetable filling) was a bit sour to the taste. Not sure if it was meant to taste that way, or that it has gone slightly bad. The skin was also a bit dried up, indicating that it may not be as fresh as it should be. The filling of pork, vegetable and chopped prawns was flavourful enough, albeit the sourish taste. Priced at RM3.50, it was not expensive, but the quality leaves much to be desired.

Fried Oysters Cry Mar 29, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Food court | Noodles

After having a few meals of fried oysters in Jalan Alor, my expectation on fried oysters in KL was pretty high. However, I was quite disappointed with the fried oysters from Kong Tai at Lot 10 Hutong. The oysters were medium sized, actually rather small compared to the Jalan Alor ones. The dish also did not have the crunchiness from the flour and egg batter as they fried the oysters together with the batter. The chilli salvaged the dish a bit, but overall I would probably not patron this stall again. Much better quality in Jalan Alor, even though the environment here is better.
