Salted Chicken

Salted Chicken

The less remarkable dish at Hakka Rang was this salted chicken. The texture of chicken was very coarse and tough, surely not for old men. I have tasted tender steamed chicken before and I know it is achievable! The only special feature of this dish was the salted way of cooking. Not too salty, which was good but the texture of the chicken could definitely be improved ALOT!

Floury Pai Kuat Cry Jul 31, 2012   (Related Review)

Steamed Pai Kuat

Steamed Pai Kuat

Pai Kuat should be lean, well, at least that is my ideal type of pai kuat. It wasn't until one year ago that I started to realise "Oh, you can get pai kuat at dim sum places!". LOL, I was so kampung girl back then because my family usually does not eat out during weekends. The only place I always have my pai kuat is Restoran Ho Choon Sien. Their version was less floury than Onepot's, and perhaps juicier due to the ratio of meat to flour. Taste wise, both are relatively similar. Onepot's had more broken bones lying around which made the eating experience less enjoyable.

Prawn Cheong Fun

Prawn Cheong Fun

When it comes to rice roll, I am very picky. I like mine thin yet semi translucent and frankly speaking, not many places can do that. Onepot is considered the worst place for rice roll or cheong fun ever. The rice roll constituted 95% of the dish, no kidding! Basically you will regret if you order this. The prawn itself wasn't very fresh and both the prawn and skin did not go well with one another. Chili was not bad though.

Vanilla Sago Cream with Honeydew [RM9]

Vanilla Sago Cream with Honeydew [RM9]

Vanilla, sago, and honeydew sounds like a perfect match for a chilled dessert. I wanted something like sai mai lou on this particular afternoon and I ordered one. First of all the timing that it was served was wrong. The waiter served this few minutes before our mains come. How can finish in such a short time? Secondly, it melted so fast that I didn't get to enjoy much. What I got was water tasted like vanilla and with alittle sago. The honeydew balls were sweet but overall this was a failure.

Chandol, Taro & Sticky Rice in Coconut Milk

Chandol, Taro & Sticky Rice in Coconut Milk

A dessert, shall we? This is one of the selection of the weekend brunch buffet menu. Personally I find it rather interesting, so I decided to give it a try but I was disappointed. First of all, the chandol was frozen, which might be by intention, however I liked my chandol soft. The sticky rice was alright. Somehow I liked my previous dessert, the candied banana in coconut milk more. This was alittle too diluted to my liking.
