poached tiger prawns Smile Dec 31, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

pantai seafood is famous for its fresh seafood, not too mention the expensive prize
there is a large live aquarium in the restaurant displaying all the seafood that you can eat from crabs to fish, from prawns to oysters

the poached tiger prawns are simply boiled till they turn orange and then served
it comes together with two types of dipping sauce
but even on its own, the tiger prawns are sweet because it is fresh
and i can tell it is fresh because there is still firmness in the prawn flesh

tong's roast is more famous for it's duck rice and it's Barbeque pork wan tan mee
but did you know you can actually switch the two
that means you can have duck with the wan tan noodles instead!
the wan tan me is springy and chewy
the gravy was just enough and not too wet
the duck was roasted nicely but there was a part of the duck i had which was too chewy that i couldn't tear it into smaller pieces so I had to leave it aside
but the duck wasn't very fatty either
the wan tan mee comes iwth a side of soup and some vegetables

claypot chicken rice Smile Dec 31, 2013   (Related Review)

the owners of this establishment is quite old.
the man is the only person cooking the claypot rice so if there are alot of customers, it may take very long for your claypot to be ready

the claypot rice can be with our without salted fish
i think the salted fish adds more flavor and fragrance to the rice
the rice is cooked well and skillfully without much of the rice burnt at the bottom
the chicken is tender and well marinated
best eaten together with the homemade chili sauce that the owners have provided

lotus root soup Smile Dec 31, 2013   (Related Review)

the lotus root soup is boiled using pork ribs
that is the reason for the soup to be so sweet and the broth so clear
i find that there is too much pork in it, i would rather it has more lotus roots
the lotus roots are cooked through till it is soft but not soggy so there is still a crunch in them
it also has red dates in it which makes it so much more healthier to drink
the only concern i have is that the soup is served in a bowl that is chipped and looks old

double boiled soup Smile Dec 31, 2013

although the main dish is claypot but these owners know that it is important to have a complete and healthy meal
so they also included soups in their menu and depending on what are the ingredients they can range from RM5 to RM7
the first soup i ordered was the salted vege soup, it had big chunks of white tofu in it
what i liked about this soup is that the broth is very clear
apparently because they use pork instead of chicken to make the soup
it is not overly salty either, so they must have treated the salted vegetable before they boiled the soup
