Yong Tau Fu for breakfast. OK May 07, 2016
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Kopitiam | Yong Tau Fu

Most of the Malaysian is familiar with Yong Tao Fu as we can find it at almost every hawker centre. 15th Floor Yong Tau Fu, a kopitiam that located at Semabok Perdana, you’ll be able to find Yong Tau Fu with different ingredients there, ranging from fuchok, okra, eggplant, chili and so on.

The shop is always flooded with customers early in the morning. I’ve lose count on how many times I've come back here for their Yong Tao Fu. What’s so special with their dishes that make people go back again and again?

Every piece of Yong Tau Fu is selling at RM0.70 each, it’s a very reasonable price for the amount of fish paste being stuffed inside. For your main dish, you can choose from meehon, mee or kuey teow while I always go for their dry meehon.

The ingredients that will always be on my to-eat list include eggplant, okra, green chili and fish ball. Their fish ball is made freshly so you don’t have to afraid about the fishy taste, it has good texture and really bouncy. The moist texture of eggplant goes well with the crispy fish paste as well.

One of their selling points would be their green chili. Stuffed with generous amount of fish paste, the crunchiness of green chili will take you by surprise on your first bite. The mild spiciness of green chili pairing together with fish paste offers a unique taste, makes you go for more and more.

Their fried taukey is super crispy on the outside and yet chewy with fish pastes inside. They will be preparing their fried taukey at the kitchen and refill the taukey frequently, in order to ensure the crispiness, remember to grab it once the taukey is served!

If you don’t fancy on Yong Tau Fu, you can go for their fish ball kuey teow/mee hon/noodles as well. Accompanies with huge amount of fish pastes, spring onion, fried shallot and soy sauce. This simple ingredients make up a satisfying bowl for breakfast. If you are craving for a bowl of comforting food, do try their soup based dishes!

Delectable Pork Chop Noodle Smile Jun 22, 2016

Categories : Restaurant | Noodles

Heng Long Taiwan Mee, located at Gajah Berang near Catholic High School, serves the best pork chop noodle and beef noodle in town.

This coffee shop has more than 40 years of history, they draws local patrons as well as tourists everyday to try out their noodles. Even the taukeh boss is 84 years old but he still be at the shop everyday to manage the business and guide his workers.

The shop is not that spacious and it consists of limited tables, be sure to come earlier because you might have to wait for empty tables during lunch hour, even on weekdays.

You can get a bowl of small size pork chop noodle at RM5, comes with deep fried pork chop with spring onions sprinkle on top. Their noodle is one of the best noodles I've ever tasted, it looks like flat pan mee, but way more silkier than pan mee, you can just slurp your noodle and eat, the texture is so good and sprincy.

I like to soak the fried pork chops into the noodle sauce for them to absorb the taste of the sauce, though it becomes not that crispy but it tastes super juicy and succulent, the meat is tender and the juice keep oozing out in your mouth.

Their home-recipe chili sauce is also their highlight, it's so aromatic with a mild spiciness, it spices up your meal as well as your appetize.

Besides pork chop noodle, they serve spciy beef noodle and pork trotter noodle as well. You can also opt for their side dishes such as fried pork chop, salted vegetables and pork trotter.

Kopitiam style Big Breakfast  Smile Jun 20, 2016

Categories : Chinese | Kopitiam

I've wrote about having western style big breakfast at Soon Yen Kopitiam to kick start your day and guess what, I've discovered another kopitiam style big breakfast with really affordable price! No one can resisit a hearty and healthy breakfast in the morning!Chop Beeng Cheong restaurant, serve you the best wan tan mee at night, and they open in the morning selling breakfast as well. By passing through the restaurant, you will be able to spot a big banner indicating that they sell western breakfast there. The breakfast stall is owned by "Fat Mao", which believe to be handled by a pair of young couple, ready to serve you different kind of western breakfast.

Signature Big Breakfast (small size) comes with scramble eggs, sausage, baked beans, hashbrown, toast bread and butter. Their big breakfast comes in two size, you can get the smaller one at Rm4.5, while for the bigger size, you will get served with extra ham slice and of course, bigger portion.

I think no one can mess up big breakfast and everything on the plate tastes pretty good. I particularly love their scramble eggs, the texture is really moist. Besides, they use quality baked beans as well.

If you are not a fan of big breakfast, they do have other selections including burger, pork cullet, cheese omellete and many more!

Best roasted duck rice Smile May 25, 2016
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant

Restaurant Zhing Kee, located at Taman Bukit Melaka Bukit Beruang, a restaurant that draws huge crowd of local patrons regardless students or office workers to queue up for their signature roasted duck rice.
This restaurant has the best roasted duck rice that you shouldn’t miss. Everyday even before lunch hour, this place has already flooded by customers who come over for their roasted duck, char siew or siew yok. Do come early because their signature dishes will be sold out pretty fast.

Roasted duck rice comes with generous amount slices of roasted duck, cucumber slices, black soy sauce and their special chilies dressing. Of course, you can request for different part of the duck according to your liking, different part comes at different pricing.

Their roasted duck has really crispy outer skin; the meat is super tender and succulent. I’m sure it will steal your heart away at its first bite. The juicy meat absorbs the fragrance of the herbs during roasting, it then literally burst in your mouth and the taste would linger in your mouth. It’s perfectly roasted and surprisingly the meat doesn’t dry up at all after being roasted.

Their special chilies dressing is a plus point as well. It’s a mixture of chilies and some herbs; it adds a mild spiciness to the steamed white rice and roasted duck. So far this is the best duck rice that I’ve ever tasted, and I’m not even exaggerating.

Even though we take away the rice but the taste doesn’t being affected at all. Pictures and words does not do it justice, do head over and try it yourself!
