The Champ Kitchen @ Kepong OK Nov 01, 2015

If you are in Kepong, there is a new restaurant for you to check out. The Champ Kitchen brings you classic chinese food that will satisfy your gut. Located in the midst of the industrial area in Kepong, this restaurant is casual and comfortable even on your wallet.

The Champ Kitchen @ Kepong猪多宝 (zhu duo bao) Pork Treasures

Clean and casual Pork being their specialtyHerbs are the core ingredients

The Champ Kitchen's specialty is their pork knuckle. When you enter the restaurant, there is a quiet but huge wok at the front. Inside, lays their treasure. Pork knuckles are braised for 72 hours in their family recipe that has been inherited from the owners ancestors. The pork meat is tender and infused with the fragrance of the special mix of herbs and spices.

Claypot Pork Knuckle RM28.00 (small) RM38.00(medium) RM45.00 (big)

Drunken Pork Knuckle RM55.00

Great for communal eating

Pork knuckles broiled in a huge pot for hours to seal in the herbs and spices

Big bowl rice is a classic Chinese representation. With a chopstick, get ready to push hot and fluffy rice with pork knuckle, salted vege (ham choy) and preserved vege (mui choy) and egg into your mouth. This yummy bowl of pork knuckle rice completes your meal at a very reasonable price. Comes in variations of meat and gravy.

Pork Knuckle Rice RM8.00

Pork Hind Rice RM10.00

Japanese Curry Pork Rice RM13.00

Slow Braised Beef Brisket With Rice RM15.00

Its always nice to go back to the classic big bowl rice

Other than rice, those who prefers their carbs in the form of noodles can choose from one of their combo big bowl noodles. The noodles are of the wantan kind (sang meen). Noodles are springy and flavourful. Scrumptious when gravy seeps between them.

Pork Knuckle Slice Noodle Dry RM10.00

Pork Hind Noodle Soup RM12.00 Very flavourful

This Pork Lard Rice is heavenly. Forget about its sinful side and just indulge. This is the most fragrant rice one can have. Take it with Crispy Pork Lard. I guarantee that you leave the restaurant smiling!

Pork Lard Rice RM3.00

Crispy Pork Lard is nothing like eating fat. It is not oily at all. It is fried till it is light and aromatic. It will leave you asking for more, trust me.

Add-ons: Crispy Pork Lard RM2.00

If you do not know what to eat, choose this fried man tau bun with pork gravy that cannot go wrong. The fried mantau is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Every bite exudes the breads natural sweetness.

Snack: Fried Man Tau Bun RM3.00

Minced Meat Toufu is one of the best sellers in The Champ Kitchen. Salted fish as it is known, will make you go for doubles on the rice. The saltiness is occasionally diluted with chunks of soft toufu that makes it more lip-smacking.

Minced Meat Toufu with Salted Fish RM12.00

This dish creates a very invigorating sensation in the mouth when its cold toufu awakens the palate. Wait for the taste of the century eggs to emerge after the bland toufu.

HK Cold Century Egg Toufu RM12.00

The pepper masked the lamb odour very well with a little gravy on the grilled flesh that just falls off the bones. Spiciness can be numbing...well, it is Szechuan style...what do you expect?

Grilled NZ Lamb Belly with Szechuan Pepper RM18.00 per100g

The chef does not skimp on herbs and ingredients in this Forever Young soup boiled in a coconut shell that inherits all the sweetnes. Black chicken feet, fish maw and mushrooms were boiled to create a soup texture that soothes the throat.

Forever Young RM38.00

.Watch out for different soups of the day that makes your meal more interesting. This Lotus Root Soup is smooth and rich in flavour.

Soup of the Day- Lotus Root Soup

The Grilled Horse Mackerel, or known as Saba fish is sweet but the gravy a little to the salty side. I thought the minced radish at the side was rather refreshing when eaten with fish.

Grilled Horse Mackerel with Szechuan Pepper Sauce RM15.00

The Dang Gui Salted Chicken flesh was smooth and toothsome. Wolfberries and Dang Gui paired well to give a wholesome taste.

Dang Gui Salted Chicken RM18.00 RM33.00

Minced Meat Omelette is down-to-earth yummy as minced meat falls from the folds of the eggs. The concentrated gravy makes it more charming and enticing.

Minced Meat Omelette RM10.00

The Braised Lamb Belly however, made my appetite shrink as the odour was a tad too strong. Having said that, I found my friend who is a very gamy meat-eater appreciating this dish.

Slow Braised NZ Lamb Belly with Foo Zuk and Fermented Beancurd Sauce RM38.00

The wanton skin is thin yet textural. I enjoyed biting bits of turnip mixed with the meat. Soup was mediocre.

HK Wanton Soup RM 20.00 for 8

Wrap-up with a scoop of their homemade ice-creams. I must say that they are very smooth and silky. The Sea Salt flavour is pretty interesting. There were mixed feedbacks as some like its eccentric taste and some dismissed it. Truffle with bacon also has the salty feature. Go try them and see for yourself.

Homemade Ice-cream RM5.00

From left: Macha (greentea flavour), Sea Salt, Truffle with Bacon

It was a pleasure eating hearty big bowl rice in this restaurant. Would definitely introduce it to my relatives who are big fans of olden and classic chinese food.My hearty meal

There is a flaming new hang out place in Sri Hartamas. BWB Flaming On Table is set to impress with its stylish restaurant that offers dining experience that will satisfy not only the taste buds but your Instagram fetish too. One can be assured that this place serves food that looks as beautiful as it tastes.

Ready for a flaming meal?Cosy corner

BWB Flaming on Table

The restaurant's interior is soothing to the eye with black walls and neat furniture. The ambiance seems versatile for any occasion- romantic for love birds, cozy for a gathering and cool enough for a party.

Black walls and neat furnitureThe bar counter

The bar in BWB completes the food range for customers who would like to include some booze during their visit. I must say this restaurant is exhaustive for events and celebrations. After a chat with the owner cum chef, I find that they also take their culinary side earnestly and resolute on improvement to ensure customers' return.

Appetizer: Tri Specie (Three in a kind) RM30.00

From left: marinated jelly fish, tiny octopus and tubor shell

We were spoilt for choice at the appetizer department itself. Here are some that made an impression. Whetting my appetite most was the Three in a Kind entree. The marinated jelly fish packs flavours in its chewy mash while the tubor shell awakens the palate with a sweet and sour punch. Tiny octopus comes raw and blended with a tad of wasabi to stimulate the senses before the main course.

Appetizer: Secco Seppia (Grill marinated squid puller) RM12.00

Grill Marinated Squid Puller is simple yet powerful. This is the perfect order to be paired with drinks (beer for example) while you schmooze. A little tough but I did not mind keeping my teeth busy with the aromatic shreds.

Appetizer: Salted Shrimp (Fried shrimp) RM12.00

Addiction comes in the form of Fried Shrimp. The crisp is light and every bite is rewarded with sweet prawn flesh inside the crust.

Appetizer: Chicky Corns (Fried chicken top with cheese) RM12.00

I enjoyed morsels of fried chicken while waiting for the main course. A little dab of cheese adds a unique creaminess to the bites.

Appetizer: Piccante Mussels (Spicy mussel) RM18.00

Seafood sweetness is contained in the spicy mussels. The spiciness is just right to compliment the special sauce spread generously over each shell.

Appetizer: Sizzling Seafood (Sizzling seafood with homemade spicy sauce) RM30.00

Seafood lovers should treat yourselves to this platter of seafood that sizzles with the flavour of the ocean. Prawns, oysters, squid and fish bits converge to offer a delectable bonanza of seafood mix.

Appetizer: Oyster Box (Deep fried toufu with oyster) RM12.00

The Deep Fried Toufu with Oyster might not be so promising. The raw soy smell of white toufu masks the taste of the oyster in the middle. The oyster was as if non-existent despite some efforts to detect it.

Appetizer: Knuckle Bun (Mini bun with knuckle slice) RM10.00

The Mini Bun with Knuckle Slice is something that I would recommend. Tender pork knuckles sandwiched between crispy man tau won my heart over. The man tau was not oily and fried to a brownish crisp on the outside and soft on the inside.

Flaming on the Table main dishes are indeed worth the wait. There are five kinds of meat in the Flaming family- chicken, Wagyu beef, ocean trout, lamb and pork.

Oink oink on Burning (Flaming pork rib)

Small RM42.00 Big RM55.00

Flaming Pork on flames

Crazy Cow (Flaming Wagyu M5) RM48.00

Flaming Wagyu M5 on flamesNote that the eggs are cooked to precisely preserve the yolk runny

The Flaming dishes are all fascinating and makes great celebratory dishes. It is hands down the most attractive of dishes in the menu. Every Flaming number is not only to satisfy the tummy but also to feast the eye. Stylishly dished on a tile, the platter is bedecked with edible flowers and tastefully positioned greens.

Wake Up Sheep (Flaming grain N. Z. fed lamb belly) RM48.00

Flaming grain N. Z. fed lamb belly on flames

Angry Bird (Flaming chicken drumstick) RM35.00

Flaming chicken drumstick on flames

Ocean on Fire (Flaming ccean trout, scallop and prawn) RM65.00

My favourite would be the Flaming Ocean Trout. Savour the natural sweetness of the fish which speaks about its freshness. The cooking is finely done as the trout's meat is delicate and tender. Flames are ignited with a non-alcoholic liquid poured over the dish that contributes to a BBQ fragrance after the after burning. Try presenting a birthday boy/ girl a flaming dish instead of a lit candle for a change. The birthday wish will definitely come true.

Skewers from left: Wagyu fuwagua (wagyu beef and foie gras) RM24.00

yaki tori(chicken thigh) RM5.00

Skewers from left: tsukune (meat ball) RM10.00

sunigimo (gizzard) RM4.00

tebaski (chicken wing) RM8.00

Special sauce with raw quails egg

Skewers from left: shisamo (pregnant fish) RM4.00

bonjiri (chicken tail) RM4.00

Skewers are always a delight to have. My favourite would be the Wagyu fuwgua ( waygu beef with foie gras). Wagyu beef is cleverly paired on the skewer to bring out the best of the foie gras. The gamey taste of Wagyu will linger to accentuate the taste of the rich liver. Shisamo (pregnant fish) is also a wise pick. Popping flavourful fish roe in the mouth is enjoyable.Preparation of Flaming Coffee

Flaming Irish Coffee RM38.00 for mild, RM55.00 for strong

Settle down with a glass of Irish Coffee skillfully pulled with flames and topped with cream. Heat consistency was watched to ensure that the cocktail coffee gives a smooth sensation in the mouth.

SmokyTruffle Ice Cream (with bacon and sea salt) RM25.00

Cool down the flares with a cooling truffle ice cream with sprinkles of bacon. The sweet and salty combination teases your tongue to a fancy flavour that you will learn to appreciate.

These artistic food are not only good to see but are prepared with gastronomy standards. It has my vote for group celebrations and special occasions.

The Crazy Bites @ Subang Jaya OK Oct 05, 2015

Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Pizza/Pasta | Burgers / Sandwiches

There is a new kid in town. His name is
Kirikuru. I met him in his new restaurant in Subang Jaya. The Crazy Bites is
the latest addition to the many eateries in the student-populated area near
Taylors College and Inti College. The Crazy Bites is just over one month old,
having opened its doors on the 14th Aug 2015. I went to see how
crazy my dinner would be.Kirikuru- maskot of The Crazy Bites.

The plush toy is not for sale yet but there will be future plans Happy thoughts

Just down the road from Taylors and Inti College

It was difficult to ignore the happy
splashes of colours in The Crazy Bites. Even after the crazy traffic and rush from
work, a cheerful sensation incubated when I entered the restaurant. The
contemporary and cartoonish setting gave me a laid-back feeling, away from the
thoughts of work. Complete with wifi and corners of MTV broadcasts, it is no
wonder patrons looked at ease whether dining in for dinner or just for casual
bites in between meals. The interior of the restaurant

No pork, no lard and wifi available

Casual and laid-back environment

The Crazy Bites serves mostly western
variety- pasta, burger and pizza. But to asian food lovers, do not dismiss this
post just yet. The restaurant also offers local delights that are quite
commendable.

Left: Hot chocolate RM9.80

Right: Cafe latte RM8.80

Forest Fruit Milkshake RM13.80

Maracuja Pineapple Tea RM9.80

"What to drink ah?" "Anything la" Well don't let it be just anything. May I suggest one of the refreshing mocktails in the menu. If your palate feels bland, the Maracuja Pineapple Tea will do a good job whetting your appetite for a bigger meal. The concoction spruces the spirit up either for an easy chat or for serious chomping.

Flamed Grilled Chicken Pasta RM12.80

The Flamed Grilled Chicken Pasta is down-to-earth, promising flavours that cannot go wrong with white cream sauce and grilled chicken to accompany.

Clam Vongole RM12.80

Slurp away with Clam Vongole that holds seafood goodness with pasta soaked in clam soup. Clams attached with its shell will add morsels of adventure in your mouth.

Spaghetti Seafood Carbonara RM12.80

What is a good menu without the regular Spagetti Seafood Carbonara. Unlike the Flamed Grilled Chicken Pasta, this dish is sprinkled with chilly flakes for a little spicy kick. Adorned with squid and mussels, that is cooked just right to a springy yet bite-able texture.

Lamb Kofta Pasta RM16.80

To those who is craving for a more meaty sensation, Lamb Kofta Pasta will serve your appetite with a juicy lamb patty that tops twirls of pasta drenched in tangy Carbonara sauce.

Thai Style Pineapple Fried Rice RM13.80

This Thai Sytle Pineapple Fried Rice is one that I wished I had the whole dish for myself. Rice is not only flecked with pineapple but also well seasoned with tumeric, generating aroma that just picked me up by the nose. There were generous amounts of prawns exhumed from the fragrant rice. With sambal on the side, you will not divert your attention from it.

Johan's Nasi Lemak RM13.80

Do not underestimate this Western food restaurant as Johan's Nasi Lemak is a little treasure discovered among the burgers, pastas and pizzas. The rice earned a point for innovation as it is pandan flavoured (which explains the green colour). This number also apprehended me when the fragrance reached my nose. I actually stopped photo taking for a while to get another whiff of the dish.

A gang of burgers

Goat Bites (Lamb) RM16.80

The Crazy Bites is serious about their burger business. The burgers are bulgy with stuffing that only a skewer can keep them in place. There are 8 variety of burgers to choose from. Each accompanied by sweet potato strips, not fries. Sweet potato strips are more solid and contain innate flavour of the tuber. Filling enough to provide energy till the next meal.

Ox Bites (Beef) RM13.80

For those fickle minded, let me narrow down the choices for you. Indulge in Ox Bites for a very beefy meal.

Apple Mushroom Bites RM13.80

Herbivors will like this fruit and vegetable fusion in the Apple Mushroom Bites. A creative combination of apple and mushroom sauteed to a flavourful filling is something unique.

From top: Crazy Lamb Pizza RM14.80, Crazy Mushroom Pizza RM12.80,

Crazy Seafood Pizza RM14.80

The restaurant's inventory of pizzas is wide. My favourite will be the Crazy Seafood Pizza with prawns and mussels embedded in a spread of cheese baked on a thin crispy crust. What I like about the pizzas is that their portion is just right for one person.

Crispy Onion Rings RM5.80

Calamari Rings RM13.80

For those who do not want to take their meal too seriously, there are many finger foods to choose from. Crispy Onion Rings and Calamari Rings are good chat facilities.

Chicken Honey RM14.80

The chef did not skimp on ingredients when he cooked the Chicken Honey. Chicken breasts are marinated in tabasco sauce and honey made it more lip smacking.

Chicken Fire RM14.80

Try the super spicy Chicken Fire that challenges the taste buds. Do try this if you are the kind who likes sweaty meals even in air-conditioned environment.

Jacket Potato RM13.80

The Jacket Potatoes are alternative to a casual meal. Baked with cheese, tomatoes and chicken shreds, this is suitable for those who wants to keep it simple yet filling.Me and my Crazy Seafood Pizza

The Crazy Bites is worth a try. Gatherings and group meals, I reckon, can be fun here too!
