Grilled Chicken Smile Nov 17, 2015

I have suddenly found myself craving for something hearty without having to break my budget. Since I had really liked the food there before, mother decided to bring me back to Sam's to try something else from their menu.

Aside from their salad and carbonara, another thing that came highly recommended was their grilled chicken thigh. Now I should mention that I have never really been a fan of chicken, not unless it is deep fried to golden perfection. So I was a little apprehensive about having to order two portions of this that comes with a side of salad and wedges.

Though to my surprise, it smelled and looked really good when the plates arrived. Placed in front of me were two plates of generously portioned chicken thighs that looked grilled to perfection. Although slightly dark in colour, I presumed it to be from the marinate of spices that the chefs had slathered the meat in.

The taste was absolutely amazing and you would think that the marinate would be too overpowering judging by the colour, but it wasn't. Also the chicken was still nice and juicy on the inside while the exterior was perfectly crisp from the grill.

Although the portion of sides were rather small, I really liked the wedges which were crispy on the outside but perfectly fluffy inside. I wish they gave more of that so I could mop up the juices that leaked out of the chicken.

Definitely recommend this dish!

Lunch Set Smile Oct 05, 2015
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen/Udon/Soba

After running an errand and meeting a client, I decided to have my lunch at Bangsar before going back to the office. Plus I was being a little cheeky by taking my time before having to actually return to 'work'.

Since I was already there, I dropped by a favourite Ramen store to have a bite to eat and to enjoy their lunch set. Priced at Rm33, which I think is very affordable for Ippudo price standards, the meal comes with a bowl of ramen of your choice and a side of your choosing. There is a crab salad, sake mentai rice and chicken pao. Then the drinks is priced at half price from the menu.

I chose the Crab Salad for starters and I enjoyed it. The lettuce and sald was crisp with a nice amount of sesame dress topped with my favourite ebikko. Then the crab meat is also not too scarce which I enjoyed a lot of.

As always I got my favourite order of the Karakka- Men with pork belly slice. This has always been a favourite because I prefer this broth over the shoyu kind as this has more flavours, clearly they put in a lot of effort to their soup. Plus the spicy miso paste that comes with really gives an added kick to the dish in a more interesting manner.

This time I asked for the ramen to be cooked al dente but it was softer than what I asked for. When I told the waitress that served me, she told me that this was how it is supposed to be. But I clearly remember it having more of a bite so I don't feel too jelak from the mushyness. So I am wrong?

Although I've had amazing service at the Pavilion branch and also this one, I was a little surprised by how this one brushed me off as if I didn't know any better. Is it because of how I look or what? I was rather insulted and slightly put off my meal, though I slurped it all down so I make my money's worth.

Plus the ramen is still delicious even if I wish the noodles had a bit more bite to it. I'd still go back and hope for a better server the next time around.
Supplementary Information:
Lunch set is only available from 11am-3pm. Not too sure if it applies on weekend or not, but most probably no.

Birthday steak!  Smile Sep 18, 2015

Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Steaks / Chops | Seafood

It is kind of crazy to think that this establishment has been standing for over three decades and still doing pretty well. On good days their restaurants are filled to the brim and one would need to wait in order to be able to dine within their nautically designed restaurant.

On good days, they have incredibly staff that are friendly and attentive. However there are times when the place is rather busy, they would be a little less accomodating but would often provide sub-par services like forgetting to refill our water or even forgetting an order or two. Though they are usually better than that and I have had more pleasant dining services than bad ones.

So for my sister's birthday, the Ship was automatically the first pick to dine at as it's one of my family's favourite place to get some good but affordable steaks.

For starters, we ordered half a dozen their Escargot Bourginnone. Don't be surprised if the shells arrive slightly broken because.... I presume that it's been used many times over after being heavily washed.

As the many times we have eaten this dish before, the sauce is always garlicky and creamy which is one of the best escargot sauce that I've tried. Honestly would prefer this kind of sauce over the regular butter baked kind. Especially since the warm complimentry bread is the perfect medium to use and soak up all the remaining sauce.

Now for our main course and always a must order is their Black Pepper Steak cooked to a preferred medium rare. Every time we request for our steak's temperature, it is on point and never missed the mark before. As always this arrives with a side of thick cut fries and steamed vegetables. The greens are nothing to shout about but the potatoes are perfect to dip in the black pepper sauce, soaking up every bit of it.

But the main star which is the grilled steak is always nice and juicy. Plus the sauce is always sharp with black pepper flavour that packs a good punch.

One of my absolute favourite thing to order is their Garlic Steak Parisienne. Which translates to a nice thick slab of steak smothered in really rich garlic sauce and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The sides again are always the same and I usually can't be bothered with it. But once again, I would lap up all the remaining sauce (if there is any) with the freshly fried fries.

As always the thick cut of steak is always cooked to how I asked it to be, perfectly medium rare. There is rarely ever any bits of fats that comes with the meat unlike some other places and to finish one entirely is very filling so it's nice to know that they have not depreciated their quality in order to gain a few more bucks.

A sentimental place this is for my family, so it's no surprise that we'll be visiting this restaurant again when we are in the mood for some good and affordable steak.

Durian Ice Cream Smile Sep 08, 2015
Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Café | Ice Cream / Froyo / Gelato | Sweets/Snack

For someone that loves durian, I literally jumped at the chance to visit Inside Scoop when a friend told me that they serve really good ice cream. Plus odd flavours such as Teh Tarik, Cempedak and Durian.

Since I didn't know the way, a friend drove and thankfully he did or else I'd get lost before getting anywhere near this place. Not unless you're familiar with the area, this Inside Scoop isn't the easiet to find as Waze is not in the slightest bit reliable.

When we got there, I knew what I wanted instantly. Though was happily trying the other flavours like Verona chocolate, Teh Tarik and Cempedak. I was initially going to get a scoop of Cempedak too but then it didn't live up to expectation so I just picked the Durian flavour.

Rather than get the ice cream in a cup, I opted for the one because that's how I like it. For Rm10 and a giant ball of durian ice cream, I think it was quite worth it because it wasn't just cream with some durian flavour in it. The taste & smell was stronger than any other durian ice cream that I have ever tried.

Though, not something I would eat on a regular basis and it has nothing to do with the added calories.

Stuffed Chillis Smile Feb 11, 2016
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Steaks / Chops

With free time, we were once again back at our favourite restaurant and this time we brought the grandparents with us. They were rather grumpy about how far this place was from their home however things changed once they tried the food.

Although I'm not very good with spice despite how much I like it, we ordered many of these stuffed green chillies with fish paste. This is super yummy because the fish paste is nice & chewy and the chillies are sweet. However it gets rather spicy near the stem which gives a super big punch that have you downing a whole glass of cold water.

Then like always, we got the plate of steamed minced pork with prawn paste. This was delicious especially over a nice bowl of hot white rice, plus ladling a little of the gravy over. It even got a stamp of approval from my rather fussy grandfather.

This time we ordered something new which has immediately become a favourite of ours. We got the braised hairy cucumber with fried baby shrimp and this was super yummy. Just scooping a big serving of this and putting it over my rice was comforting enough. I had such a nostalgic feeling just eating it like that.

All the food is soooo good that the drive down didn't even matter. :3
