Seafood Craze Smile Nov 17, 2015   (Related Review)

Still a little obsessed with seafood, we decided to grab some from a restaurant that is well-known for their vast amount of fresh seafood that ranges from the usual to more exotic. Pantai Seafood has been a favourite to visit whenever the mood strikes and also having a need to splurge, or we are being treated to a good dinner by the boss.

We ordered half a dozen of freshly shucked oysters. This is one of my favourite seafood ever and to have it fresh with nothign more than just a squeeze of lime is absolute bliss. The one that was offered at Pantai was perhaps not as fresh as the ones I had in Sydney, but it was probably quite close and it was rather big in size. The ones that we got were about the size of my hand, from the tips of my fingers down to the start of my wrist.

Although already quite pleased with the raw oysters, mom wanted to try some cheese baked ones so we got three of these. Having had a few bad experiences with cooked or broiled oysters, I was a little apprehensive about these but still tried one. The cheese that was used with I assume a tiny hint of cream was alright and though the oyster was still quite fresh, I do prefer having them raw. As the cheese on top kind of masks the fresh and sweet delicate oyster taste.

We also got some Garlic Steamed Bamboo clams. The ones that I have ordered at order restaurants were rather small in size and this was huge, literally the size of the plate that it was served in. However the price was slightly high for a few of these, I think the succulent meat and taste kind of makes it rather worth it. I only wish we ordered more but by then, I was already quite full from the oysters that were had.

Although not a place that I would dine at often because of the rather steep prices on their food, it isn't a bad restaurant to have a good seafood dinner. Especially if it is a special occasion or am feeling a little bit greedy and in need of spoiling myself to a good dinner.

As a treat, mom decided to bring me and a friend to dinner at one of our favourite restaurant. Although it was a little far from where we stayed, the food at South Sea was definitely worth the drive up there.

Since there was only the three of us and neither had super large appetite, we were only able to order a few dishes. However in a rather large portion since we decided to splurge slightly.

For appetisers, we decided to get a plate of these cockles. What we usually see being grilled on the street and these are absolutely different because these were HUGE in size. There was one or two that was equivalent to the size of my palm and being someone that really likes eating cockles, having two of these giant ones were super satisfying.

We also got cheese baked Japanese Snails. Imagine escargot but without too much garlic & butter, also with some more crunchy meat. This I liked a lot especially when it just arrived at the table because the cheese is still nice and melty, the snail perfectly succulent plus warm. I think I eaten the most of this because mom & friend were not exactly excited about the amount of cheese that coated the snail.

Stir-Fried Lala with Ginger and Spring Onions was also on the menu. Although I prefer the wine option, this was also pretty good because the scallions and ginger provided a very good kick. This was a favourite between the two adults because of the flavour, plus the clams were nicely sized so it was super plump and juicy.

Just to make up for the lack of green in our diet, we also ordered the Paku Stir Fried in Belacan. This was only mediocre and personally, I think we can get better ones at a regular thai restaurant.

All in all, the service at South Sea never fails as servers are kind and attentive without any sort of sour face. Plus the decor at the restaurant was also very nice and I liked that there was a seperate area where one can go to choose & examine what kind of seafood they would like to order. Also there is a wine room for those who enjoy a sip or two of wine while they enjoy their dinner.

Although the price were a little on the steep side, it is a good place to visit if you're in the mood for something slightly more fancy. Plus the great food quality and taste do make up for the price.

Grilled Chicken Smile Nov 17, 2015

I have suddenly found myself craving for something hearty without having to break my budget. Since I had really liked the food there before, mother decided to bring me back to Sam's to try something else from their menu.

Aside from their salad and carbonara, another thing that came highly recommended was their grilled chicken thigh. Now I should mention that I have never really been a fan of chicken, not unless it is deep fried to golden perfection. So I was a little apprehensive about having to order two portions of this that comes with a side of salad and wedges.

Though to my surprise, it smelled and looked really good when the plates arrived. Placed in front of me were two plates of generously portioned chicken thighs that looked grilled to perfection. Although slightly dark in colour, I presumed it to be from the marinate of spices that the chefs had slathered the meat in.

The taste was absolutely amazing and you would think that the marinate would be too overpowering judging by the colour, but it wasn't. Also the chicken was still nice and juicy on the inside while the exterior was perfectly crisp from the grill.

Although the portion of sides were rather small, I really liked the wedges which were crispy on the outside but perfectly fluffy inside. I wish they gave more of that so I could mop up the juices that leaked out of the chicken.

Definitely recommend this dish!

Chicken Gallore OK Nov 02, 2015

I remember one saturday afternoon just after getting my manicure. The mother and I were walking towards our usual restaurant to get some dessert when we saw this place. At first we were really unsure about trying because neither of us are really fans of chicken to begin with.

Still for some odd reason we entered and before we knew it, the both of us already had food brought to our table. We were still rather full from an earlier breakfast so we decided to just get something to share.

We got the mushroom soup in a bread bowl. This was my choice because I could almost never ever resist a good soup and also, the fact that it came served in a bread bowl was a win for me.

Though the soup seemed more like the canned mushroom soup rather than in-house made, I do like having lots of chunks of toasted bread to dip in it. Only I wish it came a little more seasoned since I found this to be a tad bit bland.

Aesthetically it was good though.

We also got the grilled chicken (thigh) with what I assume to be kebab. This was pretty god too although the meat was a little bit small even if it's just for a single person. But the flavours was alright and the mother liked it.

However we were not a fan of the side salad because of the sauce it came with. It's just weird and not to our liking at all. But the mash potato was pretty alright but lacked seasoning, at least to our tastes.

Not a bad place to have a meal, though it wouldn't be my first choice.

Thai dinner  OK Oct 30, 2015

Categories : Malaysian variety | Restaurant

After getting a manicure done at Wangsa Walk, my mother decided that it's just best to eat something there rather than search for a place elsewhere. Although the number of restaurants around were plenty but we have tried a few that proved to be quite disappointing thus far. But when we saw Cili Puah, we thought of giving it a shot since we've never tried it before.

As always we would order a plate of Mango Kerabu Salad. Although the portion served here was a little on the small side, it was pretty good in my opinion. The fruit was crisp and also sour, plus there was a nice spice from the marinade used.

We also got the Pad Thai. The one here serves it with glass noodles which I quite liked but the mom thinks this was mediocre at best. Perhaps it was lacking some more flavour because it was a little on the bland side.

The Tom Yum however made up for the less than satisfactory starters. This bowl of soup was spicy and also incredibly sour which was up to our desired taste. I couldn't get enough of this and am still thinking about it even now.

Although the rest of the dishes was only so-so, the tom yum soup is definitely worth going back for to dine at Cili Puah. Maybe the other dishes that is served will be better too.
