Indulging @ West 57th Smile Sep 07, 2012

Hidden among the ladies section in Pavillion’s Parkson, Zang Toi Café is a place that is quiet and cozy at the same time for a teatime chat or to rest your feet after a shopping hunt.
Gothic!

Gothic!

Shoppers enjoying a good meal and a chat under the chandeliers.

My old time favourite: the WEST 57TH Club Sandwich (served fresh salad), is enormously huge, topped with layer and layer of sausages, eggs, tomatoes, and chicken chunks. It is a challenge for not spilling the ingredients out while eating. And I can guarantee that this sandwich is so big that it is impossible to fit in anyone’s mouth.

Our dessert: a slice of Banana Chocolate Cake with ice cream. For those who crave for more, do go ahead with ordering the ala carte cake which is 3X bigger than this size =)

The Set Menu is priced at RM23 (tax inclusive) comes with a cup of tea punch and dessert.

It's Mojo time! Smile Oct 01, 2012

We chance up on Mojo when we came across this online coupon for RM18. There were 6 choices of main courses plus a selection of cocktail or mocktail to complete our meal. It certainly is a great experience dining at Asian Heritage Avenue as we seldom go all the way there on a working day.

We ordered the Sausage Chicken Wrap, served with mashed potato, coleslaw and corn on the cob. Very special indeed, it was breaded crisply and the portion is filling. All the side dishes is well prepared.

Barbequed Lamb, served with croquette potato and sauteed vegetables. Great sauce and juicy lamb - an excellent 'must try' combo!

Additional dessert to complete our meals – classic brownies with vanila ice cream (around RM7).

Let's go dim sum Smile Sep 11, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Dim sum | Porridge | Private Party

At first glance, Jin Xua Hong Kong Restaurant may look like those chinese cafe similar to Kim Gary’s (air conditioned). Once inside, it’s a busy restaurant with staff going around with many varieties of dim sum. Even the lcd on the wall is displaying their dim sum chooses. Rite, just like shopping for clothing, I did have difficulty deciding which to order since everything looks so nice. We ended up picking the most common of all dim sums, and it didn’t turn out to be that common after all.

Dim sum priced around RM4-4.80 per plate. As for specialty dim sum, it is RM8 per plate.

The simple pork rice noodle roll and fish ball gets my vote! It is naturally sweet, without adding any sauce. I liked the cabbage steamed together with the fish ball. Both is light and is good to taste without filling up our stomach capacity. Prawn dumplings and ‘siu mai’, both is a MUST try. Its huge (bigger than most I’ve tried), and juicy too! tongue

Specialty dim sum – Tempura style durian dim sum and pineapple bun. Both crispy from the outside. I can feel the moist paste melting in my mouth, yummy! Sesame ball dim sum is super crunchy. Not too sweet at all. Salad prawn is big and fresh, served hot.

More Than Chocolate Smile May 28, 2013
Categories : Western variety | Café | Pizza/Pasta

It is a day before Valentine’s Day and we ended up in Theobroma Chocolate for a late lunch. The place is relaxing, not much crowd on that day and was full of deco from the festive seasons. Well, it was the tempting set lunches that lures us in. Lunches – yes, I’m not talking about their chocolate. It was a risky try but I was way wrong. Their set lunches is good – even better than expected for a place that sells chocolate drinks and fondue. Prices is reasonable too compared to a few other restaurants with set lunches along the boulevard.

Good stuff!

Good stuff!

We’ve ordered the Tuna Croissant Set that came with ice lemon tea for RM15.90. The banner stated that this is available after 3pm with a slash, so it is quite confusing at first. We got cleared up by a staff and was seated in no time. Satisfied, we got our tuna croissant sandwich that looks exactly as advertised. Ingredients was fresh at every bite, cooling – as it meant to be.
Superb!

Superb!

Another Spaghetti Seafood Olio Set, served with a glass of fresh orange juice for RM23.90. Springy spaghetti tossed with olive oil and garlic butter. A lot spicier than it looks. Good stuff, and we weren’t short changed. Love the presentation of the food and also the environment. Would be tempted to try their fondue at my next visit, let’s keep my fingers crossed for now. Additional 16% for taxes on the bill.

A Saturday Lunch – K Style Smile Dec 29, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Korean | Restaurant | Seafood

Mi Na Rae is an unexpected discovery on a Saturday afternoon while browsing thru the rows of restaurants along Jalan Radin Bagus. Our usual place would be the Pontian mee shop but we’ll like to try something new that day, thus the banners showing some set lunches quickly triggered the curiosities in us. We though it might not be possible for weekend lunch as the offer is too good to be true. One floor up the staircase we went, and were greeted by a Korean lady behind the wooden door to assure us that they have the lunches!

The restaurant is cozy, very typical looking Korean BBQ restaurants – authentic I can say, with wooden partition and settings, metal BBQ pits and a hanging TV playing some K-pop performances from the latest bands. From the time we step in until we’re done with lunch, there weren’t any other customers. It was a shame that such a nice Korean eatery – probably as genuine as the popular one in Taman Desa was not discovered due to many competing restaurants on the ground floor.

The interior of the restaurant.

Our set lunches comes with tea and wakame soup. Not sure what type of tea was given but it has a slight coffee taste in it.
Excellent!

Excellent!

JapChae DeobBab or the stir-fried glass noodles with vegetables (RM13.90). The glass noodles are springy and flavourable with minced chicken, carrots, black fungus and onion.
Great!

Great!

O-Jingeo DeobBab (RM13.90) is the spicy stir-fried squid in kimchi. Not as spicy as the look of it, the sauce is rather sweet and suitable for those that do not prefer the hot stuff and the squid – simply chewy!
Yumz

Yumz

And we have 6 side dishes to go with – steamed potatoes, sweet sauce tofu, long beans with silver fish, kimchi, vege pancake and kimchi fish cake. Both portions of the lunches are huge, filling and delicious, definitely worth more than what we’ve paying for. The bill comes with additional 5% tax.
