Chicken teriyaki Smile Oct 24, 2012

Came here for dinner and I asked my partner to surprised me by randomly choosing an item off the menu for my dinner. The pasta with teriyaki chicken was what I got that night. I am used to eating teriyaki chicken but with rice and not noodles, certainly not pasta. The pasta had a slight hint of spiciness in it but apart from that there is nothing special worth mentioning. The teriyaki chicken was good as themeat was marinated thoroughly and you could taste the distinctive saltiness of the teriyaki sauce.

Scallops pizza Smile Oct 24, 2012

This is one of my favorite dish from pasta zanmai. The mini hotake or scallops pizza is a thin crusted pizza with a juicy scallop on every slice of pizza. The chef will drizzle a layer of mayonnaise and they are very generous with it as each slice of pizza is laden with lots of mayonnaise. Apart from scallops, there are also mushrooms and onions which complements the juicy scallop. This dish is definitely a must whenever I visit pasta zanmai.

Unagi Smile Oct 24, 2012

This is quite a unique concept restaurant, with a fusion of italian and japanese style cooking and ingredients. The dish I had this time was more to japanese style and ingredients. The unagi is lighlty seared ad bathed with a thick sticky version of soya sauce. It was sweet and slightly salty and if you mix it with the egg, the sauce would stick to the rice making every spoonful like a sushi roll except there is no seaweed to hold it all together.

grilled pork butt Smile Oct 24, 2012

I had the Grilled Beer Braised Boston Butt. No it's not pork butt but pork shoulder. You should ask the restaurant owners why the name. After being braised with beer the pork is grilled to perfection. The meat is tender and the fat melts literally in your mouth. You can still taste the beer in the gravy. The mash is awesome as well and according to the waiter, it is made fresh daily.

house special Smile Oct 24, 2012

This has always been my favourite place for a bowl of noodles and the price here is inexpensive too. I would always go for the house special whenever I dine at marafuku. The house special consist of an egg with specially hand made udon. The egg is half boiled egg and I would mix it thoroughly with the mee before eating. The mee has a chewy texture to it and goes well with the egg.
