This seems to be mum's favourite every time we visited this cafe. It looks like really simple and doesn't look appealing. So I was pleasantly surprised when I tried it. The soup is boiled with bitter gourd but there was just enough bitterness to make the soup quite tasty. The mee sua absorbed the soup and is a good texture maintaining its spring. There were generous pieces of fish paste and slices of bitter gourd to complement the dish. The fish paste was normal and quite well flavoured but the meat is just alright. The bitter gourd slices was sufficiently soft and added extra texture to the noodles. A good warming bowl of noodles with a twist.

Shanghai Chicken Rice Smile Aug 12, 2012

This cafe has always been a favourite haunt of mine for family dinners on days when mum doesn't cook. The selection are so varied ranging from local to western favourites that you are sure to find something to satisfy your tastebud. And the prices are very reasonable being a neighbourhood restaurant.

One of my favourite dish is the Shanghai Style Chicken Rice which really taste very appetizing. The chicken is breaded and deep fried before being fried together with a sweet and sour sauce which coats it completely before serving. This is like the spare ribs sweet and sour style only chicken is used in this case. I like the sauce which is refreshing and really whets my appetite and the chicken is not too dry although it was deep fried before the sauce is added. The meat still tasted tender and goes well with the fragrant chicken rice and pappadum that is served. This is one order that doesn't go wrong for me.

great pizza Smile Aug 11, 2012

One recommended flavour to try is the Manhattan Meatlovers. The pizzas from Yellow Cab is really different from other fast food pizzas. Although their pizzas have the thick crusts, they were not floury or too thick, just enough to give the pizza a good base. The pastry was crunchy and great tasting. But their pizzas really succeed because their toppings are done really well. The Manhattan Meatlovers come with ham, pepperoni, Italian sausage, ground beef, salami and bacon - so it really was aptly named. The variety of meat combines to create a pizza that's strongly flavoured but the cheese were just the right texture so it complements the pizza well. Each bite was an experience to savour.

Soy Pudding Smile Aug 11, 2012

Pudding

Pudding

I never thought I could have dessert and not feel sinful until I tried the Soy Pudding at Fisherman's Cove. The pudding round-shaped and served with herbal jelly topping with palm sugar sauce as the base. The pudding tasted so smooth and has a good rich soy taste which was neither sweet or heavy. The texture was a bit more dense than jelly. The herbal jelly added a nice flavour to the bland nature of the soy pudding which is why they served it with palm sugar sauce. Divine without the guilt.

Grilled Cumberland Sausage  Smile Aug 11, 2012

I have to say this is one of the better options at Shook. The sausage comes served with mashed potatoes and drizzled with their special onion cream sauce. The sausage was every bit of grilled goodness with the meat full of flavours from herbs and spices that just captivates. And the onion sauce is thick and creamy and really balances the hints of peppery taste from the meat. I give top points too for the mashed potatoes which is soft but not lumpy.
