"Home cooked" meals Smile Jun 11, 2012

Sister wanted to have some dishes on her birthday so Room Eighteen was the perfect choice.

Makan!

Crispy lotus root with salted egg yolk. Thin slices of lotus root coated with salted egg yolk and deep fried. Perfect crispiness, perfect saltiness as well! tongue

Fragrant chili oil. Not too spicy and I can dip my food into this! Yays.

Vegetables with garlic. Cooked with oyster oil and garlic, these 2 had brought out the "freshness" in the vegetables.

Tofu with assorted vegetables. I've always loved such dish because of the varieties of vegetables I can get just from one dish.

Pork ribs with lotus soup. Very flavourful but perhaps a bit too oily.

Fear Factor #1 Smile Jun 11, 2012

I was very fortunate to have won a contest organized by Openrice and thus got myself an invitation to dine in at Hanare for 2 lol

Dried salmon. Very crunchy and I think it tasted very much like "bakkwa", but I couldn't bring myself to have a few more pieces as it was too salty to me.

Snail! This was part of the Zenzai that was served to us along with homemade Goma Tofu (sesame tofu), egg tofu & Seasonal Baby Squid (April - June only). I never thought I would have the chance to eat a snail but I did! In fact, it took me a lot of courage to eat this big snail on my first try. Surprisingly, it was better than I expected. Texture was somewhat similar to that of a squid.

Seasonal beef claypot rice in which the rice was served together with beef was absolutely delicious!

Ankake (donburi served with shrimp & chicken). Sweet in taste, rich in ingredients.

Snapper sperm sac. I ate this without knowing what it was. To me it looked like and tasted like mangosteen except that it wasn't sweet :|

Handmade mochi served with Japanese pear cooked in wine, strawberry & vanilla ice cream. Loved how I could eat ice cream with mochi together! Double sweetness at one go.

Dim Sum at 8pm OK Jun 11, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Dim sum | Porridge | Private Party

Who says one cannot have dim sum at night?

I did!

Salted egg + century egg & pork congee. Not the best I've eaten so far but it was not too bad either. Quite flavourful with the amount of century egg inside but not so much of salted egg and pork slices.

Shrimp dumpling. Each dumpling had one big and succulent prawn wrapped in it. Tasted a bit bland without pork sad

Seaweed roll; crab stick and pork. So so only.

Golden bun!

Look at the filling! Leaks out immediately when you break the bun into half. Very creamy and smooth. Custard cream + salted egg = best pau!

Despite passing by this restaurant for so many times after its grand opening, my bf and I never set foot in it Watami until yesterday.

We were seated immediately as soon as we made our intentions clear that we would be dining in. Cutlery were already placed on the table together with the menu. Menu is quite extensive and looks classy (and heavy).

Bf ordered the Chicken Katsu Tomago Toji. Unlike any other chicken katsu served in other Japanese restaurants, this one didn't come with rice. Rice had to be ordered separately.

The egg was given separately and it's only poured into the broth when it was boiled using the portable stove.

Broth tasted salty to me but it was delicious to the bf. I probably won't order this in the next visit as I do not like any fried items to be soaked in broth and become soggy.

My Wafu pizza! It's a pizza topped with teriyaki chicken and sauce. Very crispy and thin slice of pizza which I could finish it on my own lol

Oh did I mention that the service here is superb? I think each waiter/waitress bowed to us before they spoke to us or brought us our orders.

Bill came up to ~RM77 for 2 persons.

Some people like eating peanut butter straight from the bottle, but some don't. If you asked me, I will definitely hesitate before answering you. I l like peanut butter, and I don't mind eating peanut butter, but it has to be accompanied with other ingredients. Ice cream is the most favourable in this case.

I was at BR The Gardens on last weekend and bf was kind enough to treat me BR ice cream after lunch! Wanted to order junior single scoop but this cafe doesn't have junior sizes but regular ones.

Well, this is the first time I found myself having difficulties finishing the ice cream towards the end. Mainly because this was a regular size, and there was plenty of peanut butter ribbon in it. Anyhow this flavour made me a happy kid for the rest of the day because I got my ice cream fix! Ice cream was very chocolate-y while peanut butter tasted a little salty. Yum~
