yummy chee cheong fun Smile Jul 31, 2012

Categories : Indian | Food court

This chee cheong fun stall is operate by a couple husband and wife. The husband is very friendly and often chit chat with us. Besides chee cheong fun, they sell otak otak and chai kuih too.

Topped with red chilli paste and sesame. Remember to remove some of the chilli because they are really very spicy. The ''prawn'' paste sauce given is very thick and quite alot too. The sauce has the combination of sweet and salty, hard to describe. Some may not like it but it really depends to individual. Mixing them altogether makes the chee cheong fun taste delicious. Their chee cheong fun is silky smooth and chewy. I actually love biting it.

Curry Mee Smile Jul 31, 2012

Penang style of curry mee is very different from the ones in KL. Penang curry mee is more of the coconut milk that makes the soup looks whitish in color. The soup taste is mild spicy that any kids can eat it. Mixing the homemade chilli paste at your own taste may enhance the soup to taste more fragrantly. Most importantly the ingredients here are all very fresh and sweet, especially the prawns and cockles. One thing i like about this stall curry mee is because they provide this mint leaves that makes the curry mee taste extraordinary, very delicious.

Yummy Chendul Smile Jul 31, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Malaysian variety | Stall / Warung | Desserts

This Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul is a family business from their great grandfather. The stall is located at a side lane of the road just outside the Joo Hooi coffeeshop. The lane is always packed with tourist and customer queueing for this teochew chendul.

The chendul comes with a bowl of shaved ice, coconut milk, gula melaka, chendul and read beans. The taste is sweet and some salty taste due to the coconut milk at the same time leaving my mouth with fragrance of gula melaka. The red beans are nicely cooked, sweet and sandy. Great combination with the chendul. Very refreshing and chilling for a bowl of chendul especially for the hot weather like in Penang. I always finish my bowl of chendul happily and satisfying.

You can stand at the road side to enjoy the chendul or order into the Joo Hooi coffeeshop but with extra RM0.50 service charge.

Duck Meat Koay Teow Soup Smile Jul 31, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Malaysian variety | Food court | Seafood | Noodles

This duck meat koay trow th'ng has been operating at Lebuh Cecil Market for many years. I think they have been 3 generations selling duck meat koay teow soup. However they are too famous to become more commercialised now, with printed tee shirts too.

A bowl of duck meat koay teow soup comes with very thin slices of duck meat, fish paste, a fish ball, a meat ball, slices of pork meat, coagulated duck blood, spring onions and roasted garlics. I am impressed that all the meat can be sliced till so thin. Luckily i still can taste the duck of the duck meat. I like the fried fish paste and meat ball very tasty. Noodle koay teow is kind of special which is more thinner type. The soup is actually quite mild but still had a nice fragrance of duck. First time trying the coagulated duck blood, the texture like jelly and itself is tasteless. Overall the taste has actually dropped compared to several years ago when i was young.

Char Hor Fun OK Jul 21, 2012   (Related Review)

Char Hor Fun
Actually the hor fun and meehoon is precooked. Once there is an order, they will just cooked up the gravy and ingredients then pour it on. It's served with huge prawns, pork meat, sliced char siew and green vege. The ''wok hey'' aroma of char hor fun is very important. However the taste here is just average and bit too salty. Adding in pickled green chili may enhance the taste nicer. Luckily the prawns and other ingredients are very fresh.

They serve Penang White Coffee here. It comes in a big mug but still ''thick'' and taste great (at least i feel better than the old town coffee). Enjoy the fragrance of white coffee smell so much. Price here is very reasonable too.
