It is even listed in ‘CNN’s 50 Best Foods in The World’! Of course when you’re here, it is a must to look for the best Asam Laksa that will not disappoint you! 1. Kim Laksa

Kim’s Laksa would be one of the most famous Asam Laksa at Balik Pulau area here! They are now located at Kim Seng Kopitiam! Remember don’t go to the wrong place! Asam Laksa and Siam Laksa here are the most order from their patrons. A bowl that packs a punch with great ingredients used especially lots of fresh fish meat in a bowl, the noodles texture are superbly good. Sourish taste from the soup itself, add in that prawn paste for that extra kick!

2. Pasar Air Itam

Located at this market here, when you asked for the best Asam Laksa, everyone will point you to this store. Very near to Kek Lok Si Temple, many tourist and locals will sure to come over here to enjoy their piping hot Asam Laksa. This stall are usually over crowded when it is weekends. Thick broth and filled with fish meat in every bowl! Stir everything up and enjoy it while it is hot!

3. Bisu Laksa @ Air Itam Market Annex Food Court

Located at this food court, this Laksa stall serves bowls of good Laksa that you will sure to enjoy too! As the boss is born with speaking disability, that is why the stall is known as ‘Bisu’ Laksa. Great soup base that is sour and spicy, just like how a bowl of Asam Laksa should be, many of his patrons are from the neighboring area that support his strength in handling this stall even he has disability! 4. Joo Hooi Café

Located at Penang Road here, have you tried this Asam Laksa before? If you have never try this place out yet, they are usually packed with patrons thus waiting time might take a bit longer than usual! Good food are always worth the wait, isn’t it? Known for smooth noodle texture and flavorful broth, you have to try them out! Since they are usually packed, patrons do self-service themselves to save some time! Plus the cendol here is a must try too! *burp!

5. Mount Erskine Hawker Centre

At Tanjung Tokong here, there is this sisters that sells slurpingly good Asam Laksa. Although they are aged, but they are still able to cook delicious laksa that makes their patron crave for! Cooks the laksa broth during wee hours, expect for a bowl of fragrant Asam Laksa when it is served piping hot! There are two types of laksa here – Nyonya Laksa and Asam Laksa! Psst, we heard that there are Singaporeans who travel all the way here for their laksa! When will it be your turn?

6. Kedai Kopi Taman Emas

Situated opposite the Penang Chinese Girl’s School, they are quite known here! Returning customers are indeed a lot and they do really recommend others to patronize this stall too! Always remember to add the prawn paste to thicken up the broth, it is really good! Plus, you can order their fried popiah and dip or soak them into the laksa broth for a better softer popiah texture! Special isn’t it?

7. Laksa Janggus

This stall is operated by a Malay family and they are located at Balik Pulau here. The name Laksa Janggus are not strange to patrons here as they are famous for delicious Asam Laksa! Usually spotted long queue here, their laksa noodle are slightly different from their other stalls, they are thicker and not that translucent. Not too sour and the spiciness is just nice! If you’re still feeling hungry after a bowl of laksa, they do sell fried snacks too!
