As usual it is finger licking good. It has always been a favorite of ours when it comes to Sang Har noodle and Crab. But the price sky rocketed and it is getting pricier as time goes by.

There is less crowd on weekdays but probably due to CNY now, there were more diners when we were there. Best to make reservation on weekends though.

Of course we had the Sang Har noodle and as usual, it was really good. The gravy tasted  flavorful with the prawn so huge. There were so much of roe and it was so sinful as we just had prawns the night before too.

This time we had the kam heong lala and a honey coated deep fried squid. The lala was nice, the curry leaves makes it even better but the portion was so small. There were four of us but we only manage to have 3 lala each to ourself at most.

The squid was something different. Deep fried with honey coated, it can be quite dry but crispy and crunchy on the outside. The texture is good but after awhile, it can be quite tiring to chew at. Will be good for snacks but not so appropriate to pair with rice though.

Nek Mok? At first we were thinking it's probably a malacca cuisine theme restaurant but once we reach, it wasn't. More like a Malay cuisine geared towards the Indonesian flare or probably local.
This place is located right next to the lorong seratus tahun shop. Just head straight up to the highest floor (fourth floor) to the selera street and you will see it.
We were skeptical as a lot of ready made and packed food can be seen outside the restaurant. Does this mean that they do not have freshly prepared food? We bite the bullet and took the risk.
As we sat down, the friendly lady introduce to us their menu. There was two famous dish, the ayam bakar rice or the kukus (steamed) rice which comes with either chicken or beef. We all had the latter.
It looks good on the menu but when it came, the portion was small. Taste wise, the fried chicken is ok but the steamed rice doesn't taste flavorful. In fact, it's quite bland. I didn't finish the side dish that comes with it too, not used to the smell of the bean curd and the sauce.
I guess we wouldn't return anytime soon. It was mediocre.

Miss Kwan. This is new to us. Madam Kwan is definitely famous but this? We were guessing that it's either opened by her daughter or probably just another sister brand for an express smaller scale kind of restaurant as it offers their famous signature dishes at a smaller layout. Only few steps away from its restaurant, right in front of bumbu desa.

Of course we had their famous nasi lemak as well as the plain chicken rice. Since my friend came from Ipoh, it was a let down for her as she claimed the chicken rice which was topped with oyster sauce actually tasted weird. The chicken itself was all right, smooth with just the right texture but the sauce ruined the whole set.

As for mine, it was finger licking good. Comes with their own sambal with ikan bilis, it was fragrant and not too spicy. The curry chicken was good too with the right amount of santan in it. My set cost me about RM 20 inclusive of a bottle of mineral water. One can opt for the mineral water bottled or lemon tea. Not too sure if they have similar lunch offer or lunch set at their madam Kwan restaurant though.

Seafood galore Smile Jan 23, 2016

We have always been a regular of this place. For both locals or tourists, I'm sure you have heard of the renowned Thean Hou Temple. This restaurant is located just 300m away or so from the bottom of the hill entrance which leads to the temple.

There are two areas of the restaurant. The bottom is without air conditioner while the top of the restaurant is much cooler with air conditioner. The steps leading up to the top might be steep for some, just a tip for kids and elderly to be careful of this.

As we were all craving for seafood, we had the crabs and noodles. For crabs we had one with the normal steam egg ones and the other two with spicy and sour sauce.

The steam one was really good, it was fresh and the steam soy sauce was really fragrant. The egg was silky smooth. The crab meat was fresh too not too soft.

As for the spicy and sour sauce, it was too spicy for our liking. The kids couldn't have it at all. Some will be best to paired with fried mantau but this was too spicy and we were too full to order anyway.

Nevertheless the seafood was really good. Never fail to disappoint us all the time.

Itallian OK Jan 21, 2016

It's Itallian tonight! It's been awhile since we had pasta and tonight I was craving for a good one, so we made to the famous enorme Itallian restaurant.

I was so excited to order the squid ink pasta as it is one of my favorite Itallian food. But it was a major letdown. The best I had was at Verona at section 17. Will blog about that the next time.

As for enorme's, at RM 37 the price wasn't worth it. Yes the pasta portion is big enough to be shared among two girls but I could hardly find any squid in there. Only a handful of them. Taste wise it was okay, but not great. It was in fact quite bland.

We also ordered the clam in garlic and onion soup. Couldn't recall the exact Itallian name but boy oh boy, it was addictive. The clam was quite fresh and fleshy, with every bite you could feel the juice and the soup was really flavourful. I just can't help asking for more. The broth comes with a lot of garlic as well. So yummy and filling for our hungry tummies.

Hits and misses but perhaps the next round we will return to try their pizza instead.
