New Year's Eve Dinner Smile Jan 16, 2013
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

Ended up in Midvalley on the New Year's Eve and decided on Purple Cane for dinner.

We ordered four dishes in total and they were:

1) Braised chicken with sweet chilli in tea sauce (came with fried bun) - middle
The chicken tasted just alright, there was nothing great to rave about. The sauce wasn't spicy and had more of sweet taste to it. On the plus side, they gave quite a lot of and my sibling and I enjoy gravy on our rice so it was good smile It was a little pricey I must say. The chicken looked like it was the size of quarter of a chicken or rather half of a really skinny chicken and they charge RM30+ for that. It was quite a bomb

2) Homemade stir fried egg with tomato, prawn and tea mill - first on the left
This egg dish may sound and look like an ordinary egg dish that our mums can whip up at home but I loved it! The flavoring was just nice. The subtle taste of tea in the egg gave it a nice finish. I enjoyed to mild taste of this dish cos most of the time when you eat in those chinese restaurants, the flavoring is very strong.

3) Golden beancurd with tea mill - first on the right
Just like the egg dish, this dish also has a very subtle taste, almost healthy as one would reckon. I personally like the tea flavoring in it - makes it different from beancurds that often eat at chinese restaurants. The beancurd itself was very smooth and i like how it's nice and golden on the outside. On top of the beancurd were minced pork/chicken meat (cant really recall). The gravy was more sweet than savoury but wasn't too sweet at the same time, so it was once again 'just nice'

4) Stir fried lotus root and water chestnut with tea - at the end
Those fried 'keropok' added extra crunch to this dish. Loved the combination of the lotus root and water chestnut. Vege fried with tea? Sounds a lil odd but trust me the tea does make a difference, good one that is smile

I must also add that we enjoyed the tea rice a lot as well. They actually cooked their rice with tea leaves so you can still actually see the leaves in your rice. The fragrance from the tea really gave the rice some ommphh.

Being first-timers, we were a little adamant on how well would tea go with our food but to our surprise we really enjoyed all their tea-infused dishes. Felt really healthy eating there. Haha.

This would definitely not be my last visit smile

Dubu Dubu Seoul Food Smile Jul 12, 2012

Categories : Korean | Restaurant | Seafood | Noodles

Met up with the high school friends last weekend for lunch at Midvalley. I suggested this place and my friends being the 'chin chai' people agreed although one of them has tried before.

Was pretty impressed with variety of food they offered and the prices were also reasonable. The set up of the place actually makes it look like a fast food joint. Deco is simple and they had K-Pop stuff played on the TV to give it a more Korean-ish feel. Haha

After looking through the menu for about 5mins, all four of us coincidentally decided on ordering the exact same thing. Haha. So we went on to order the Dol Sot Bibimbap.

Dol Sot Bibimbap is actually a stone-bowl mix rice that comes with the choice of either beef or chicken meat. The rice came with corn, shredded carrots & cabbage, kimchi, egg as well besides the meat. Also, along this bowl or rice, there were also three types of side dishes, a bowl of plain soup & their Dubu Dubu special spicy sauce. The sauce has to be mixed in the bowl and stir with the rest of the ingredients in the bowl to eat. The combination of the ingredients gave the dish a very unique taste. You get crunchy from the corn and shredded cabbage and carrots and you have sour and salty from the kimchi and the special Dubu Dubu sauce gave it a sweet and spicy taste. The egg in the rice held the whole taste and ingredients together after mixing everything. I like this dish! smile

Whole set only costs RM17.90 which is pretty affordable I would say. Plus, it was very feeling for us and we could hardly finish our bowls.

Not too bad. Will come back again to try other stuff =)

Durian Cheesecake Smile Jul 06, 2012

Was around Fahrenheit 88 and we're looking for desert. Came across a cake kiosk on the ground floor called Su's and was immediately drawn by the array of mini cakes on display in their fridge. Couldn't resist, we stopped smile The cakes on display all look so tempting that if I could, I'd want all of them! tongue Hahaha.

Since we didn't have anywhere specific in mind to go, we decided why not just have our deserts here.

Cheesecakes are my favourite!! lol Durians are also my favourite!! lol Combine that two...wahhhh!! Lol. So as you might have guessed, I went for their Durian Cheesecake! Let me tell you, it tasted superb! I loved every bit of it. The cheese and durian goes so well together. The cake cost RM8 a piece, though small in size, it was worth it!

Dining Back in Time OK Jul 06, 2012

Categories : Western variety | Café | Steaks / Chops | Burgers / Sandwiches

Born in 1921 and standing as one of the oldest restaurants in KL, this colonial looking restaurant was 'THE' place to go for western food during the days of my parents and probably grandparents too. It was the 'fancy' restaurant of those days. People would save up (I'd assume tongue) and bring their girlfriends here for some romantic fancy dinner smile

As far as I can remember, I had never come here prior to this but my mum said I did when I was a young girl. Haha. Upon arriving here, I was quite taken a back by the whole look of the place. I don't think I've ever dined in a place like these ever before. Pretty interesting smile Pictures below will tell you how it looks like. I love the old feeling I get in here. Feet like I travelled back in time. Haha

I got the sizzling fillet steak which cost RM37.90. Taste? Mm...so so only. It's not fantastic but edible and as you can see,the plating is very simple, nothing fancy at all. Just a slab of meat and a 3/4 tomato. My friend on the other hand loved it a lot!

I couldn't really recall if the potato wedges & vege came with our mains or did we order them separately. I do remember we added on baked crab which cost RM16.90 each. It wasn't too bad. It had crab meat & some vege stuffing in the crab shell.

All in all, it was an interesting dining experience! lol

BIG Breakfast ! Smile Jul 05, 2012
Categories : Western variety | Café | Steaks / Chops | Burgers / Sandwiches

Was in town the other day for visa submission with my friends. We couldn't really decide where to eat (as usual tongue), my friends then suggested Antipodean at Wisma Tan & Tan and since i've not tried before, I said "sure, why not". I have heard that their big breakfast here is good.

So we got there and ordered the big breakfast (of course) and pancakes. Apparently the portion is quite huge so we decided to share.

The Big Breakfast costs RM19 and consists of a slice of toast, two slices of bacons, saute mushrooms, a piece of hashbrown and a large amount of scrambled eggs. Being an egg lover, this dish delights me! lol

This is called Banana Pancakes with Butterscotch and it costs RM16. It comes with three pieces of pancakes, slightly smaller than the size of my palm, cuts of mix fruits and butterscotch dipping. This dish is alright. Nothing to shout about.

The environment is generally nice. Simple deco to suit the taste of the working class customers. Since it's located in an office building, majority if not all of its customers are office workers and the surprising thing was, we were the only Asians in there. Haha. Those dining there at the time we were there were all Caucasians.

Generally a pleasant experience but I wouldn't go there for a normal day breakfast. Too fancy for my pocket tongue and I still like my nasi lemak. Lol
