Chinese chow: Emperor Tang's Duck Confit, with accoutrements of soy & calamansi reduction, maltose, braised cabbage & roast potatoes. What grade should we give meat that's this tender & therapeutically tasty? Something better than an Asian F, for sure.

Desserts fail to display the same East-meets-West razzmatazz, though the chocolate caramel cake with sea salt & peanut butter banana cake are nonetheless as virtuosic as anything else on the menu. But why do both look so familiar? A clue might reside with the boy who baked them.

This is the Urban Spoon Bistro at Plaza Damas.I went there with my collegue to have our lunch because they arehaving some lunch promotion. This is our appetizer,shredded duck confit salad.Hardly can see any salad come with the duck meat. This idea is quite new to me.But sadly, this is not really nice, the salad is fresh butnot really go well with the duck meat. The sauce a little too weird and not really match with the whole idea.But frankly speaking, the duck meat is fresh and tender.

It was at the later stage of my life that I came across such a delicate yet buttery fish, which was cod. So smooth that I just couldn't help to fall in love with. This yaki cod texture was cooked to perfection as it retained the flakiness of the fish yet just cooked enough to not being raw.

The balsamic vinegar reduction sauce was something that made the dish unique from what I had previously tried. It was sourish but not too strong, just enough to enhance the flavor of the fish without stealing the limelight from it. For those who are so used to the Chinese style of preparation, you might find this slightly weird but fear not, it was very subtle.

The bonito flakes too enhanced the aroma of the whole dish with its umami-ness. Guess what, it paired well with the cod in balsamic vinegar reduction too!

Talking about harmony, this yaki cod has it all.

Stuffed with cream cheese, breaded, and deep fried, the outside is cripsy but not oily; and the jalapano is softened and sweetened by the heat, but still retains its potent heat that slowly creeps up on your throat when you're eating it. The carrot and orange soup tastes nothing like it sounds (thankfully!). The texture of the fibrous carrot combined with the sweetness of the orange makes it an interesting base for some juicy shrimp and cabbages. It is savoury and does not taste like any fruit at all (not even the orange - just the sweetness and acidity is there).
