For dessert, we had the sweetened sea coconut with nata de coco and lemon, as well as the Sweet Fancy Duet. The sea coconut is young and boiled quite well. The nata de coco provided a good chewy crunch to the dessert, together with a hint of lemon. A bit sweet, which made the other dessert, Sweet Fancy Duet pale in comparison. The duet is essentially wor peng, fried Chinese pastry. I thought it was a bit oily, with not much of lotus paste filling. There was also some cendol-like jelly served, wh

The fried rice with anchovies and salted fish in Oriental Pearl Restaurant was just so-so, nothing to shout about. The rice was fried slightly wet, though still fluffy. I would normally prefer my fried rice drier. There were quite a bit of ingredients such as prawns, chicken cubes, bit of long beans and small pieces of salted fish topped with fried tiny little anchovies. The taste was quite mediocre. Probably good for just filling up the stomach.

We can't go wrong with the sauteed fish maw with mushrooms and broccoli. A usual fare in Chinese restaurants, it proved to be a popular dish when we saw two other tables having the same. The broccoli was broiled to perfection, not too soft. The mushroom was also braised flavourfully. Thick and slightly chewy, I enjoyed it very much. The beancurd sheets, silky and smooth, complemented the rest of the dish nicely. The fish maw was spongy and nice, but I wasn't a fan so I had just one piece. Overal

The dry butter prawns in Oriental Pearl Restaurant is worth a mention. Although when served, I thought that they were very stingy with the butter sauce. However, the prawn itself was quite flavourful. Poached well, the prawns were full of mouth bounce, though they dont have much eggs. The butter sauce was just right, not too salty, with a hint of curry leaves taste. There were more than enough prawns for the five of us. Definitely recommended!

A couple of weeks ago, some friends and I were told that Oriental Pearl Restaurant is having a promotion, and it is very worth the money. We decided to pay them a visit. The first is razor clams stir fried with celery. The razor clams were juicy and delicious, but I thought the celery was overcooked. Then there was some deep fried fuchuk with fish paste filling. It was fried quite well, though when served, it wasn't piping hot. It was also slightly salty. The third item on the dish is the baby octopus with jellyfish. It was served cold. Definitely a good one for me. Sourish and slight spicy, it was a good appetiser. Lastly was the fish paste ball with a small square of ham on top. There were a very minimal amount of gravy poured on top. I would have liked more of the gravy. Overall a decent starter.

Tai Thong's so-called "Unbelievable Promotions" piqued our curiosity, so we headed to their outlet in Bukit Jalil's golf resort to check it out. The set dinner packages for this offer basically cost around RM 20 per person, with a fairly wide range of dishes to choose from. Nothing thrilling though, just regular stuff such as chicken soup. The crispy roast duck was terrible. Dry, overcooked and stale-tasting. The steamed grass carp with minced ginger was OK. Reasonably fresh. Braised beancurd

Braised beancurd with mixed seafood and mushrooms. A "safe" dish.

Hunan-style fried mantis prawns. The description sounded interesting, but the prawns themselves were instantly forgettable. More batter than prawn meat.

Sauteed broccoli with Chinese wine. We were skeptical about the wine content.

Mango pudding dessert to wrap up a lacklustre dinner.
The verdict: an affordable promo with plenty of food choices, but portion sizes are not filling enough and none of the dishes will excite the tastebuds.

Next and also the final course of our meal was our nourishing dessert, Double-boiled sea coconut with ginseng and snow fungus. This dessert I would rate it average good for the reason that they put generous amount of the ingredients but not up to my expectation in terms of the skill. It was quite a bit sweet and the temperature of the dessert when served on the table was only lukewarm. Improvement is really required.

Oriental Pearl is strategically located in a Golf & Country Resort which provides ample of parking space. In terms of road traffic, it is good as it is not located in the centre of the city nor far away from the city. One of the dishes we had for lunch was Fried Tiger Prawns with Spicy Salt. Served big tiger prawns and fresh too. I like the way it was prepared, something different than the usual steamed prawns. It was not salty nor spicy and the meat was fresh and sweet.

I do not know whether the Chinese Pancake was freshly baked but when served, it was just lacked of crispy texture, a bit oily and very little of lotus paste found in it. As for the Kueh, I found it was taste acceptable but improvement is required as it was lacking of freshness, the aroma of the gula melaka was not there or may be it was colouring?. The santan or coconut milk was not fresh either. The only comment on the cendol and the sweetness were good as well as the idea of the kueh.
