One of the greatest challenges in Kuala Lumpur is that most of the ramen shops are located in Shopping Malls. For a person riddled with anxiety and general unease around other humans, this poses a massive problem. It is testament to my love of a damn bowl of soup, noodles and egg that I willfully enter the mine-field of toddlers and parents, corny teens on shopping sprees, husbands dragged along to handbag shops, diarrhea on the speaker-system and the perpetual confusion as to where the exit is.

Probably due to costs-per-square-meter, they always end up on the top floor too. Having a massive hatred of elevators this means more time spent with humans on their ant-like rambles up the escalators. It's truly enough to give anyone a relapse of PTSD. Having said that, upon entering a calm, ramen oasis with the promise of a hearty bowl, the fears subside.

I opted for the Shio Ramen (salt broth) this time since it was their Signature Bowl, and I had never had the pleasure of eating their ramen before. The restaurant was occupied by three people. A couple in the far corner chatting to other people on their phones, and a silent worshipper 3 tables away not looking around at all. Perfect!

Soup-wise it was tasty, but didn't become more complex or deep. But tasty it was. The pork was deliciously tender, the egg was a touch on the sweet side, but perfectly cooked, and the noodles were springy and delightful.

Though it may be a chain, they are obviously keeping a strict quality-control on their branches because this was nothing to sneer at.

I patron a lot of Ramen restaurant, but Hokkaido Ramen Santouka's Ramen is one of the expensive ramen restaurant for casual dining. Customer service in the store are just average because the staffs have very little knowledge with their products. Moreover the restaurant is very crowded and too noisy. It nothing close to the price you paid.

When dining here, I only have one piece of advice: don't bother ordering anything but the most expensive - the pork cheek ramen. For perhaps about the price of 20% more than the average bowl of ramen here, you get 2-3x more pork, and it's super tender premium pork cheek meat. The meat is really smooth, silky, and tender. I'm slightly bothered that it's served cool instead of warm, but one dip into the soup and problem solved.Though the soup base is "super salty" to some, I find that I like it thi

Though the soup base is "super salty" to some, I find that I like it this way. Rich, thick, and full of porcine loveliness. I still consider this to be my favourite ramen in Malaysia.

premium pork cheek pao with special sauce

tender slice of meat sandwiched between some green and special white sauce and enveloped by soft pao. the meat melted in our mouths and the sauce was not overpowering at all…

Salad. Actually I was looking for another Japanese restaurant but I could not find it. So, we decided to dine at Santuoka since The food was good the last time I tried. Their ramen is not cheap actually and comes in 3 different sizes. The salad included sweet corns, lettuce and tomatoes. I am a fan of sweet corns and I love the combination of Japanese salad sauce. It was very aromatic and I hope I could have a bigger portion.

Chawanmushi. We reached Santouka quite early, 6.30pm and there were still a lot of seats. The service was attentive and whenever we need something, the staffs are nearby. The chawanmushi that we ordered was a smooth one. It was slightly small portion as compared to other Janpanese food chain. Santouka’s version was not too salty, it has just the right amount of saltiness.

Aburi Tokusen Toroniku (roasted premium pork cheek). The first time I came, I had tried the premium pork cheek normal version and I felt in love with it. This time around, I added on a plate of roasted premium pork cheek instead of the normal one. This dish took quite a while to be served, and I understand why it was so. Charsu Ramen in Shio Broth. After we decided on the ramen, we chose the Shio broth. The broth was a salted version. This ramen consisted of naruto, bamboo shoots, black fungus, sweet onions, charsu and sesame. The pork charsu smell was strong which I don't quite prefer. Nevertheless, the charsu was soft in texture. The black fungus added some crunchy texture to the ramen.

Fried rice. Since I was feeling a little bit hungry that night, I added on the fried rice. The fried rice consisted of some tiny pork cubes. It was served hot. The rice was nicely fried as each piece of the rice was not stuck to each other. The taste was slightly salty but I like to chew on the tiny pieces of pork cubes. However, to me, the rice was slightly dry though, I had to pour some Shio broth to moisten it.

Lunch set~I forgot which type of ramen i ordered already, just remembered it is from the lunch set menu. The shashimi and salmon is included in the lunch set. It tastes just normal. Nothing special to describe. The price for a whole set like this is around rm40. For my own opinion, i feel like it doesnt really worth with the food provided. Their serving attitude is just normal. But overall, its a gpod try.
