It's easy to sidestep Yokoso Ichiban at SSTwo Mall, believing it's a nondescript Japanese joint. But the pork-loving, pleasure-laden menu is worth inspecting at this izakaya-style outlet, since the hits outnumber the misses. Pan-fried pork liver. We love liver, but this particular portion tastes past its prime. Grilled pork ribs. Tender though bony, complemented by a tasty sweet-sticky sauce. Is there anything here for pork haters? Sure: this charmingly pretty, pretty creative concoction of chopped raw tuna with natto & lady's fingers in sesame sauce. Not from Yokoso Ichiban, but a friend brought these for nibbling: wasabi-coated macadamia nuts from Melbourne's Parisi Foods (on Queen Street). Sake, packaged in a carton. This container is convenient; two liters of booze proved too much, so we were happy to be able to bring some leftover sake home. Ginban sake, brewed with the deep waters of Toyama Bay. 繼續閱讀

We usually order a special roll or maki too, so here we thought Spider Maki (RM 25) looked the most interesting (how can it not, with a name like that? =P). Consisting partly of deep fried soft shell crab, fish roe, and mayonnaise, this maki was a great example of how sushi goes very well with mayo. The soft shell crab was crispy, hot and fresh and went well with the sushi rice and the liberal dousing of mayo. It was messy, due to the size of the maki, but definitely good.because we have been a lover of Sushi Tei's Spicy Tan Tan Ramen ever since we discovered it, we wanted to try something that looked similar at Yokoso. They didn't have any soup with sesame base, so we went for miso instead. This was called Miso Ramen (RM20); noodles with vegetables, pork meat, and Japanese soya bean paste soup. 繼續閱讀

Located at the lower ground floor of SSTwo Mall, Yokoso Ichiban is a Japanese restaurant that serves all kinds of sushi, sashimi and bento fare.I went there for some snacks, and I order two pieces of Norway Handrolls. It is named Norway because the salmon is air-flown from Norway. I love the delicate flavours of fresh salmon slices, very thick and succulent. It is so naturally sweet and juicy! Their wasabi is quite mild and easier to go down the throat. The price is quite affordable too, despite of the restaurant look classy. 繼續閱讀
