Purple Cane Tea Square special dining event is definitely another successful Makan Ventures by Open Rice Malaysia. We are very delighted to be part of this culturally engaging session which has definitely leaves us with a deeper insight into the tea culture. We were greeted genially upon our arrival and registration at Purple Cane Tea Art Centre at Shaw Parade. The staff of Purple Cane Tea too showered us with affable welcome by sharing with us some knowledge on the kaleidoscopes of tea leaves and even help to rearrange the display of their tea products when am snapping a few shots. That’s so nice of them! While walking us through the ‘tea museum’, we get to see and learn to appreciate each and every earthen design of the clay teapots. Some of the utensils needed in every tea ceremony. Very unique indeed. Before the event kicked-off, we were treated with some fresh fruits, Yam Chips and in house tea. The chips were not oily at all, with just some dashes of sugar and curry powder and it’s already good to go! Come to the jewel of the day was this subtle white tea which goes by the name of Sou Mei. The tea tastes so fresh and mellow which leaves our palate with such an aromatic lingering aftertaste. Soon, the event was about to start with Mooncake-making demonstration by Chef Steven. After a cordial opening speech by Open Rice host, Chef Steven was set to share with us the baking skills along with some Open Rice team chipping in to lend a hand. As the dough was being kneaded evenly, we were also told to take note on a few techniques when it comes to baking a good mooncake. Not only the pastry skin must be thin, enrobing the lotus fillings with it is quite a challenge itself, and that I believe it comes with the experience in the kitchen, hehe. After the pastry had been moulded, they are baked in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, which were still needed to be brushed with egg yolks every 15 minutes interval. As the baking session came to a halt, an overview of tea culture around the world methodology in tea ceremony en route. Fundamentals of tea were shared by tea master, followed by tea leaves appreciation as well as tea brewing techniques. The variety of tea used for this session was of Green Tea 1st Grade Long Jing. It looks golden yellow in colour which gives out the fragrance of bean blossom of young sprout. Such a relish moment to behold.Shortly after that, we were treated to sample the signature tea-infusing mooncakes. They came in two varieties, i.e.: Traditional as well as Refreshing treat selections. Most noticeable was the latter as the entire outer layer of the mooncakes was greenish with powedered tea embedded in it. It’s such an appealing and delightful spread which best complemented by some tete-a-tete session the oriental way. Purple Cane Tea definitely lives up to its saying; “Learn the science of brewing, master the art of drinking” and tea really brings feeling to life! ^_^Thanks for the lovely momento too, Open Rice Malaysia! 繼續閱讀
